Actually 10 minutes from my house is two universities, an airport, one of the world's centers of horse racing, Mary Todd Lincoln's House, Henry Clay's home, oh also, a castle.

But the real kicker is that no one has made a game called Kentucky or Germany where you read fucked up stories in the news and try to determine if they happened in Kentucky or Germany.

Geographically its a border state and cultural arguments are too malleable and subject to subjective points of view, particularly by outsiders who haven't actually been here to the population centers to understand what the state is really like.

If all it takes is poor rural areas to make you a Southern State, then Pennsylvania is a southern state, Maine is a Southern state, even New York is a southern state.
