Nah this has potential to morph into an amazing long running debate that flares up like once a month and goes on for awhile. I'm excited for the possibilities. Its like waiting on a new MMO that no one has played yet and will almost certainly fail to deliver.

As far as I've been told by people I've met from all over the country I have no noticeable accent.
Can't do on the first, might be able to help on the second.

Reason I ask is because the Southern accent didn't exist before the civil war. Was a good indication on what side your community and state were on by if they have the accent.

From my personal experience, the majority of people with strong southern accents in Kentucky came from elsewhere like Georgia and Alabama and Tennessee. Most of the people I've met around here that sport that accent took it up as a way to be "more country" and that was more in the 90s. I really don't hear many strong southern accents like, for instance, out around downtown around campus.
I think the preconception that we're all sitting around spouting yalls in deep southern drawls is mistaken, personally. Its not that it doesn't exist, its that its not as emphasized.
