I don't think cracker is racist. But then again, I don't think American Inventor or DREAMER are racist either. They're just fucking words. They have no more power than what you, the listener, give them. Like fanaskin said, context is everything. If the intent is there, black is every bit as racist as American Inventor.

But let me highlight a point made in the story by Florida historian and anthropologist Dana Ste. Claire that convinces me that "cracker" is more of an assault on white people who have racist attitudes than an expression of racism (a pretty important distinction).
