I can just pick something and be fine, right? None of these classes/subclasses are traps?
Well its an ARPG so there's always a trap.

However I was also wondering the same thing. I'd like to try some of the sentinel classes. I don't really care to be S mode God tier I just want something fun to play. I did Khazix Druid (forget the actual name) when the game first released and that was a kind of fun RF/melee hybrid type thing. Can any of the sentinel do ranged builds?

My buddy posted this so I'm wondering if anyone has thoughts on it. The dude seems super autistic so that's always a good sign for these things.

Failure states like you might hit in PoE are not possible here.

You can go in 100% blind and just pick a couple skills you like and a class you like and assign the points to whatever says +damage on it more or less and be 'fine'.

You won't clear the super high tiers of corruption or anything probably, but you'll clear the campaign and do plenty of the end game map areas on literally anything.

hammer toss or spear throw are pretty valid for sentinel last i checked. Gearing for thrown weapons was a bit wonky, but seemed quite a bit better the little i played of last season.

I am wondering how much they nerfed ward leech. Some builds (like warlock) really relied on that for their defense in order to do upper tier content.

Am debating trying this. One thing I like about Poe (probably my favorite , and at this point for Poe 2 my only thing) is solving problems, like how do I deal with this mana issue or how do I up my dmg to the next level etc. is this game cerebral in that sense , like pob research type things

I find theorycrafting in LE to be fun. It's certainly less in-depth than PoE1, but there's enough to keep you interested.

For reference, PoE2 has potential for that as well. The passive tree is severely underpowered, too much power is vested in gear, loot is far too stingy, and many problems lack (any)solutions. But the absolute worst problem theorycrafting in PoE2 is that it almost always feels like shit when trying to roll your jank home brew in game. I've never had that problem with LE. You can get your build off the ground and rolling before the game decides it's time to lube up.

I did this constantly with fiddling wiith resources and shit making builds in LE. Super fun.

I never picked this up but I'm gonna try it out for this patch. Can anyone tell me what class it is at 10:14 in the video? It looks like they're doing a bunch of sword slashes with a 2h sword all over the place. That and the heartseeker skill caught my eye the most in the new video.

Looks like Flurry with the new reworked VFX. Rogue base skill with a 2H sword, likely on Bladedancer. The shadows, smoke screen and caltrops and stuff are base skills, the classes often has "repeated" skills from shadows.

Warlock will be the most noob friendly, high tier end game class most likely. Their ward generation got absolutely gutted in this patch but it will still be a very, very strong starter (and end game, it scales insanely well also).

Chthonic Fissure is just kind of an OP skill with maybe the best skill tree in the game.

The list shouldn't be followed as a "starter guide" or even "good builds guide", it's just the builds he felt like using and some he even says you could play better versions he just wanted to play that and stuff. He does have a lot of guides though and many are good. He will 100% makes a top 10 starter builds video before the start of the season, the videos are kinda rant-y and hard to digest but usually it comes with build links so you can just check them out and figure it out. The Last Epoch Tools website where you can make your builds also has a build list you can check out(no filter for season 2 yet though).

Sentinel has several ranged builds. There's hammer throw and shield throw and Smite(which works with a bunch of elements so works on Paladin but also the others), Void Knight has several void mage-y things with purple explody balls and void cancer dot(buffed a bunch this patch) so yeah you can definitely do caster or ranged sentinels, just need to figure out your preference for it.

Void knight Autobomber
Falconer
Hammer Smiteadin
Avalanche Shaman.

Had a great time on all.

Falconer was the one I used to play a long time ago. Is it still nice and viable? Loved doing all of the air attacks.

its probably still good.
Falconer when released was pretty bonkers.

its getting MASSIVE nerfs this patch. ... but is still probably really strong.
Dive Bomb

  • Now has 500% damage effectiveness (from 700%), with an equivalent base damage.
  • On Wings of Shadow’s Shadow Falcons deal 70% less damage (from 60% less).
  • Talon Knives grants 15% of the stats on your weapons apply to Dive Bomb per point (from 30%).
Falconry

  • Falcon Strikes now has 150% damage effectiveness (from 200%), with an equivalent base damage.
  • Rending Talons grants 15% per point of your chance to bleed, poison, shred armor, shred resistances, and slow on hit to your Falcon (from 25%).
  • Trained to Hunt grants 50% of the highest of your global increased melee damage, increased throwing damage, or increased bow damage to your falcon (from 75%).
  • Go For the Eyes grants 50% of your critical strike chance modifiers to your falcon (from 75%).
  • Falconer’s Gale adds 40 mana cost (from 35).
  • Side by Side grants 3% remaining cooldown reduction per point for Falcon Strikes when you directly use a melee, throwing, or bow attack and hit at least one enemy (from 5% per point).

Fissure acolyte/warlock is an easy league starter too. was strong, no major nerfs.

void knight autobomber.

Warlock absolutely did get nerfed. The spirit plague ward generation got massively nerfed, which was a big portion of their (very op) survivability. Though that's an acolyte nerf in general.
