I forgot what it is like to play with smaller maps and loot my character uses. Game still occasionally has animation hitching but it is tolerable. I will put some hours into this until PoE2 wakes the hell up.

This is the great thing that LE can hopefully offer - lighting a fire under GGG's ass to fix some of the issues in PoE2, because it's definitely the last "great hope" for ARPGs for me. LE has awesome systems, but the engine is complete dogshit. It doesn't look great and it still runs super janky. PoE 1 had its day, but that game has turned so insanely "zoomer" to me that I just don't find it fun anymore. It's just a spazfest, clearing screens like some meth-infused teeny-bopper, hoping you don't blow up to some random one-shot.

PoE1 allows you play at speeds well under that. There are builds that are slow and can tank most hits.
Sure, but PoE1 is definitely a game about "pulls on the slot machine" and the slower builds tend to do that part of it a lot worse.

It's also the fact that PoE1 hasn't received a real content update in almost a year that's souring me on it a bit too.

You keep saying the engine is janky and dog shit.

Are you sure it's not on your end? I've played most all popular arpgs and I don't think any of them run as bad as your describing.

Torchlight, T2, Grim Dawn, PoE 1,.PoE2, D3, D4, LE...all run pretty good.

I did run into a problem about 2 to 3 years ago in LE where the performance was very bad and we game was stuttering around. Turned out to be some mouse cursor refresh problem somehow and after I reinstalled the mouse, all was well again.

Yeah, I haven't seen anything I'd call jank in 1.2 either (don't recall any in 1.0 either for that matter). I play exclusively offline and with gamepad, and my fps is always in the 90-120 range, so maybe one or more of those things is why. My biggest complaint about 1.2 so far is that the gamepad improvements really didn't do much. Melee works great (which it did before 1.2 too) but ranged is still pretty obnoxious when it comes to targeting. Haven't tried a build that requires minion targeting to see if anything improved there.

Also, wtf is up with sanctum keys? I sometimes get 3-4 arbor keys from a single cemetery, and all I ever seem to get from key nodes in monoliths is arena ones... still haven't seen a single sanctum key though.

Ya I dont get the jank comments either. Playing melee using Lunge and it always puts me where I am supposed to go.

The engine sucked like three years ago. Plays great now. Logged in for a few minutes to check out the graphics updates, looks nice.

Bummer that it's not harder, that was my issue with it. Never any real challenge and just melting everything.

Just consider the campaign, regular monos, and sub 300 corruption the tutorial. The game gets as challenging as you want it to be at high corruption.

Maybe my eyes are completely fucked, but I think LE looks like total shit by 2025 standards. The color palette is rough, the graphics are dated/not well drawn. Hell, even the overworld campaign map looks like something out of 2004. It looks very low-budget. Then there are the engine issues where things just feel "floaty" at times, skills don't really seem to "connect" very well, etc.

It just feels like a game built in 2015 is all I'm saying. I'm not a graphics snob by any stretch (I play shit like Erenshor, "older" games, 8-bit shit like Heroes of Hammerwatch, etc.), but LE's graphics are the only reason I can't ever really get into it.

Lawd... I hate all these builds that have you respec into the build you want. I just want a start to finish build, don't care about min/max, lol. Anyway, going to find a Paladin/Warpath type that uses Smite and Judgement. Last time I played I used a build like that and it was fun while I wanted to play.

Nothing is stopping you from doing so.

If you visit any website that posts builds, or visit any youtube content creators builds, they are always going to push for max efficiency for clicks. No is going to make content that gets views for sub-optimal builds.

Now that you can respec your mastery, there are going to end up being a minimum of 5 leveling builds, one for each class, that end up being the " best " and quickest way to level. Then once you hit around 70, pay for a respec to the class that you actually want to play and go from there.

You dont have to follow any of them. Just have fun. There is no reason to blast through the campaign in 1 hr and 43 mins like the speed runners are doing and making content for..but thats how they get paid.

Pick a class, sit back and relax and enjoy the ride...until the ride is no longer fun...then exit stage left. This doesnt have to be a life commitment.

Most builds you can use for leveling, they just went with the easy route of only updating one leveling build on the websites.

I leveled as void knight just fine for example. Just pick whatever skill, slap relevant gear on and level, it's not really that hard unless you pick one of the stinker skills(even then if you get lucky with gear it can be easy). Smite should level just fine.
