having just started playing this a few weeks back i am level 16ish and constantly having problems targeting enemy champs.

in team fights i get too caught up in the sparkles and i can barely see what i am doing unless i am playing a "skill shot" champ (vel'koz, Kog'maw, xerath, Varus) i recently picked up Yasuo and i am having zero luck. Not that i dont know how to play him but the fact that i lose myself on screen constantly with dashing and being in an optimal place for auto-attacks. I hate that i can't zoom out further or have giant targeting rings on enemies on the ground.

I tend to end games with a shit ton of assists but barely any kills.

do "the pro's" play with particle effects off? or do i just need to train my eyes to lock onto enemy health bars in the midst of sparklefucks?
You just get used to sorting out the information. If it stays a problem, you can turn the effects down, but I have everything maxed and I never have trouble sorting out what's going on, I consider the effects as more information to be used during the fight, but I've been playing since forever. Yasuo is particularly bad if you're having this problem become positioning and teamfight agility are pretty key to mastering him (most assassins are like this really, Yasuo/Zed/Fizz all my favorite champs right now and all super positioning dependent).

You could play more fighter/tanky type champs till you get more used to the spells going on since you mostly just want to run at the team and push your buttons, awareness is most important for a tank to start the fight, before all the crazyness starts happening, so a lot easier to know what you're doing in your "key" times.

That makes sense as the only reason i feel I was succeeding with fizz was due to being exceptionally farmed early game by a bad Gareth. i went 0-5-15ish with Zed before that.

What champions would you recommend to fill the fighter/tanky role that is still going to be adequate in a pub game environment?

Warwick is easy and fits well into most team comps. Malphite is the same and very hard to lose track of and Maokai is super popular right now, but they are both more mage/tanky than fighter.

Nasus is a great champ for a beginner because it'll let you focus on the importance of last hitting, but you will be punished for being bad at it and called out by your teammates.

Nasus is one of my favorite top laners, but it is easy to zone out in top island and ignore your team/objectives so watch out for that :p There's some zen to caning minions all day.

My favorite top laners: Nasus, Trundle, Warwick, Tryndamere (tend to build him tankier than most pubs do). All 4 of them have pretty versatile builds although all also benefit a lot from my favorite over-nerfed item, Spirit Visage, so there's probably some bias there.

All Nasus's zone out and ignore their team until minute 30. The idea is to have you Q farm to the point that when you do wake up you are a terror.

I try to teleport down for dragon fights or if I happen to see a situation I can really impact. I don't play top lane much anymore but I mained it last season so I kinda am less team-y in that role than I was :p

Who are these fucking scrubs casting the NA promos? I assume they are looking to replace some people and are trying out new ones?

I can't wait to try out the new champ. Has anyone played him on the PBE? He looks like a lot of fun and may be played in several different roles in a pinch.

Biggest advice I wish I had actually followed when told while starting out - start saving IP for tier 3 runes.

Like, start saving last week.

I am excited for the new champ too, he looks like an awesome jungle. Might even be a good poke support.

T1 runes are worth it IMO. Have a leg up on the competition until 20 and they are dirt cheap.
They aren't and it will just set you behind later. No reason to have them since if you are better than them you will beat them without the runes anyway. Waste of IP.
