Serious question from a LoL newb: what makes LoL different from DOTA, Heroes, Smite, etc.? Is it just that it's simpler for new players, is it graphically better/worse, is the patch schedule different?

I'm not looking for an essay, I just want the short version so I can understand. I was never a big DOTA guy, and so far it feels exactly the same for a newb.
Simple way to separate league and dota. League has a higher mechanical skill cap, while dota has a higher game knowledge curve. Pick whichever is more your thing.

If you aren't used to slingshot based champions them ezreal is a good introduction. Everything he does is non targeted but he has a built in blink dagger so his positioning is fairly forgiving.

I'm impressed that Jack already prepared and has C9 going to Korea tonight, hours after winning the gauntlet.

CLG? Still chilling in the US?

That is because like I said before, I think CLG is slightly better than they have been previous but I also thought C9/TSM just played worse than usual recently. Well for C9 now they are looking better but I am still not hopeful for anybody who isn't SKT to do a damn thing at worlds.

I've got my hope set for fnatic to do really well. I don't think any other western team will match them.

I wonder what all the NA koreans will do now though, as all of them sans Lustboy failed to qualify for worlds. Wish they would make a korean superteam with impact, piglet, rush and whoever else they could find to go play in champions instead of LCS

C9 looked at least decent but I'd be surprised if any of the NA teams even make it out of group stage. Like kitsune said Fnatic seems like the only western team that even has a shot at worlds. Western teams need to stop playing scared when they play Korean teams. It's so obvious they change their style completely to try to minimize damage rather than playing their style and trying to win.

Ironically that's one of the reasons I think C9 could actually make some noise, they don't really seem to give a fuck. Complete oddball picks that could take some teams by surprise.

They have a better chance this year than they've had in the past for exactly this reason... if they keep doing it.

I actually think C9 has the best chance of NA teams. TSM has let us down time-after-time. They are good but I think their biggest weakness has always been lack of shot calling. Nobody on the team is built for it.

Hai is a natural shot caller and took a 7th place team into Worlds... He's the best player NA has to offer.

CLG havent been to a worlds before and I expect they won't do much for that reason.

Promo series last night, first pick on my team goes yasuo mid. Builds straight ap and feeds all game (was 1/7 at 13 minutes, zero communication with team).... lich bane + zhonyas + cooldown boots... He was in promos to silver from bronze 1 so i'm assuming he was intentionally trolling to stay in bronze but I dunno if that's why he did it. Good times.

Yeah, most of the TSM players are dumb as dogshit when it comes to in-game strategy. Lustboy should be the shotcaller, but doesn't have the confidence/language mastery to take the role.

Hai turning C9 around is goddamn amazing. I wonder if his wrists are feeling good enough to keep playing next year.

With the change in how players are designated, couldn't LMQ just take Piglet as their ADC and then grab 2 korean imports as their support and mid in the LCS?

Hai said in the Travis interview he wants a long vacation, but they asked him to come back. He didn't want to. I'm not sure he'll keep playing after worlds.

Not sure how you can say CLG will choke in worlds when they absolutely crushed everybody in the summer finals, like the games weren't even close really. c9 is awesome because they actually do have some non-meta picks which can throw teams off and TSM once again will choke because Bjerg and his 4 wards have shitty teamplay.

I mean, Hell, CLG bootcamping in Korea with just about every other NA/EU teams. I'm honestly only worried about some of the Korean junglers eatting Xsmithie alive, cuz that could be bad for CLG. But at least you can always fall back on Aphro to make the plays and dlift to basically outfarm and outplay almost every other adc.

Hai is not mechanically a very good player. But he is by far the best strategist in the NA scene. This split proved that. We all shat on him for being a bad mid laner (which, objectively he is at the professional level) but his shotcalling is second to none. Putting him in the jungle is the best place for him as a player and shotcaller, but C9 would be a much better team if e-sports was like real sports, where coaches can sit on the sidelines and call plays during matches.

I'd love to see that. Coaches allowed to coach their teams during the actual game.

I'm not sure if I would like that or not. Part of the traditional appeal for esports, especially ones like dota and league is that a player like hai in lol or ppd/puppey in dota are just as essential to have playing as some mechanical god like faker.

Then again even in physical sports the coaches are limited in actual direction while the action is ongoing. They make most of their contribution during the down time between plays, pitches, etc. Games like league only have downtime between maps which means little interaction in comparison but not in style.

That's certainly true. I don't know if it would be good for e-sports or not. I'd just like to see it.
