Never played this game, but some guy I work with on mineral deals is into it (oddly enough). Told him I'd fire it up this weekend and monkey around on it. Any advice for a total noob - which champs to grab (thinking of throwing down maybe $20) etc? Reading through the noob threads on their website - seems like a lot to take in....
Don't play with anyone who is decent. If you do, you will frustrate the most patient person. You'll feel like you're doing everything wrong, become overwhelmed, and possibly never want to play again. I'd say this is my own personal experience, but almost all my friends who play have had similar things happen to them and agree with me. With over 2k games played, I've completely lost perspective on how it is to be new.

Ask questions as you have them is my best advise for a beginner. Game mechanics are difficult to grasp and also change throughout leveling.

Play dominion. Its fast paced, you get to see how much items affect your champ, and there is constant fighting so you can learn what other champs are capable of etc.

Thanks for all the advice homies. Will mess around with it now - secretary left and I'm all alone at work, haha.

Also, usewww.lolking.net. It is a very good database for champion information, including win rates for particular champions win rates for particular champions using particular items, player submitted guides, etc.

If you've never played a moba (multi-online battle arena they've coined these games) such as Dota, or HoN, then do the tutorial to get the basics. You should also make a point of playing all the free champs each week so you know what different champions do. Don't fall into the comfort zone trap of playing the same champion over and over until you've played all the free ones that week first.

Thresh doesn't have the pop up after the grab then silence. Shit's lethal.

But I do like him mucho.
Thresh has an AE knockup so better than Blitz in that regard and an AE snare which is equivalent to the AE silence, just different. Sometimes the silence is better sometimes the snares better. Then on top of that he has a ranged shield, an ally pull, no mana issues like Blitz, longer range on his chain than Blitz's grab, and has a ranged auto attack instead of melee auto attack. I play both of them quite a bit and Blitz does have his strengths but Thresh completely outshines him. The only big upside to Blitz is pulling through walls although Thresh can still stun with the chain through walls but that isn't nearly as good.

My friend in low silver has been carrying himself as thresh support. I duo ranked queue with him as long as he plays thresh.

This game is fucking fun.... just getting home after staying at the office past 7:30... on a Friday...

So far, I REALLY like Master Yi. Played all of the free champs this week, and he's my favorite. Ryze seems okay as well.

Holy shit, is TSM waking up or something... cause that is twice they have put curse in their place like they weren't shit. That last team fight where they dove on wildturtle and just got completely shutdown was crazy. A lot of good games today though. I am liking this format more and more.

Probably Wildturtle so they are just meshing together better. Wasn't it Chaox that kept showing up late and arguing all the time. Probably just mesh and work together a lot better with Wildturtle.

Watching gamecribs, the biggest issue is Regi's leadership and shot calling. Dude is fucking up and needs to delegate some of that shit.

Post TSM/Curse game interview Xpecial said he has taken Chaox's role as a secondary shotcaller and is guiding wildturtle in lane since they are doing things he is unfamiliar with. New TSM is also planning their whole game out, target banning, and working together a lot more.

Their first 2 bans were so spot on to target SV which is the best thing you can do against curse. They then ended up banning brand 3rd apparently having no clue what else to ban (i would have gone thresh which curse then immediately first picked but maybe thats part of the strategy). TSM picked MF immediately to get it away from cop. The game was almost over right there imo.

Regi said they gave no fucks about the 3rd ban. They banned out what they were most scared of or rather from what I got out of the post game interview from Regi...what he didn't want to deal with. He mentioned hating Saint's aggressive jungles as he comes Regi's way at level 2 usually for a gank. They mentioned the shot calling to Regi which like buffylol said Xpecial has kinda of picked up the slack a little and Regi is working on communicating better. Personally though, after watching that gamecribs episode...if Dyrus knew they were going for dragon why the fuck was he not watching dragon? Why the fuck should he need to be told to shen ult...that shit made no sense to me. When you play those type of global champs you have to watch the map yourself for the opportunities especially when it is stated what is about to go down.

That's like saying it's the fire departments fault when your house burns down. Someone needs to call them so they can do the job.
