Ah are we doing the if you aren't diamond you aren't worth listening to thing?
Well it'd be nice to at least differentiate between bronze/gold/platinum advice. I think discourse between all the segments of the ladder is healthy but if I see a disagreement on strategy/tactics I'll inevitably side with the higher ranked player. Everytime a platinum guy ends up in one of my games he puts a pain train down on my friends and I so I have a great deal of respect for what the top 1 percent of the ladder gets up to when they launch the LoL client.

Yep, but then when it comes to actual ranked play you end up with a lot of plats playing in gold MMR games(hell, when i went from silver I to gold V i had plats in my games). With the new league system the scoring websites are pretty far off course. May as well just put your league in your signature.

So, I finally got around to downloading the game. I have a bit of experience with games like this so I think I'll pick up on things pretty quick. But, are there any champions that are recommended to pickup for beginners? I don't mind spending $10 or so for a few champions to work on while I build up points. I lean more towards physical attackers, be they tankish or even ranged attackers.

Refer to my signature for a beginners guide.

As far as buying, go into the store, and click Bundles. There should be aChampions bundle with 20 champions. Buy that. It will hold you over for a decent amount of time while you level up.

Each week a new set of champions are free to play. You won't have to spend money on anything else until you either get good at the game or really want to invest.

The first thing you should do is subscribe to Riot Games on Youtube to get Unchained Alistar and then like Riot on Facebook to get Riot Girl Tristiana. Each skin comes with the champion as well. Don't ever ever buy any T2 runes ever for any reason ever no matter what anyone else says ever. They are a rookie trap.

There, that's about the only beginner advice I can give that I find to be universal.

edit - a link to links for the skins

Mostly agree but somewhat disagree. I have plat+ friends that have the decision making and game sense of semi-sentient bricks. However mechanically they are absolutely amazing so that carries them through their positional and map based mistakes. Meanwhile you have someone like Alexpenn who is a gold player but is the team analyst and bans/picks strat master for Cloud 9. Theorycrafting and game knowledge doesn't always equal what bracket you are. Its your mix of mechanical/logical skill and how much you play that will get you your rank.

tl;dr

A gold can know as much if not more then a plat/diamond player about how the game should be played. They just might suck at clicking the buttons.

It sounds like you follow the scene pretty well, other then the subreddit, mobafire articles, and here, where do you see things like that? Like.. is there a forum for people discussing pro level matches and community? I've looked here and there, but never seem to find a good central source for info.

I watch the game a lot more then I can play, and I have a shitty computer to play it on. I just always feel like information is going around about the pro scene and I only hear about it later when it becomes big news.

Team liquid has a really nice league section as well. They are mainly a Starcraft2 site, they are also have dota2 and league subforums though. The community there can be alright as well since it's usually heavily moderated.

Edit:
Played a couple ranked games today, TF twice, Shaco once, Morde once. It really pisses me off how retarded some of these players that I'm playing are. I mainly play low to mid plat players. I'm currently gold 1, but I still gain ~30 LP per win so I should probably get to my promo series tomorrow unless I tether at 90LP or go on a losing streak. But anyway with Shaco for sure, and usually TF it's better to split with those champions mid to end game because TF can just ult into a fight whenever and Shaco is pretty much worthless in 5v5s (at least once there is an oracles out) so he's better splitting all day.

It's ridiculous though how often people bitch at me to group. "We need to group as 5 to win" and I'm just like no, I'll split as TF, draw one away, you guys engage and I'll port it" Nooope, my whole team comes to my lane. Or a game I was a shaco, I'd split push and multiple times I would draw the enemy mid lane player to have to stop my split push yet somehow my team couldn't win the 4v4 even though the mid wasn't there. Like...raaaage. Then I'd get bitched at because I should be grouped as 5. All I can think is, I drew away the strongest player on their team and it's still my fault.

Usually I don't vent much, but man, it's annoying how people still don't know how split pushing works even all the way up to plat.

Also, speaking of TF, I took a break from playing him even though back in Season 2 I'd play him quite a bit. I can't remember why I stopped playing him though, such a fun champion. Long range poke, on demand stun, unlimited mana (for the most part), semi-global ult. You can catch everybody out of place when playing him. I've started going the whole boots of swiftness + lichbane as my first two items since that's mainly what you see in LCS all the time. That or Sheen into Zhoynas depending on the enemy team comp. It's super fun how fast you are. Kite kite kite, chase chase chase. Gets even better if you grab the twin shadows. more movement speed and those wraiths that slow, lol. Love it.

uhh... so I just watched that 72 hours with C9 video that machinimavs did. Holy crap does C9 have the hottest groupies/girlfriends of all the LCS teams. And damn does SneakyCastro and his girl (jenabella) look like they are from different worlds.

Yea, I saw that some caster had tweeted that, and it really is amazing. I'm surprised it's specifically just for League of Legends right now, but awesome either way as a stepping stone into making E-sports a bigger thing in USA. You can already see a lot of the social stigma behind 'gamers' and such changing in the country. Hell, you can kind of see that related to my previous post about the girls hanging with C9, and just some of the model type girls that are actually interested in e-sports/streaming now. It's like cheerleaders/groupies/fans/etc.. in professional sports, which is great

One of the main reasons e-sports have been so big in korea is that internet connectivity and technology have a wider base in that country. As the younger generations that grew up with smartphones/internet/etc.. start becoming adults it's slowly effecting the entire country's opinion and awareness of e-sports.

Another silver logic!

Morgana pushed and OOM, lane is clear and perfect for a gank with no wards, ask Udyr (jungle) for a gank after he clears wraiths.

"why should I help someone who can't even win their lane"

I really need to save up IP and grab Zed. That champion is so broken it's ridiculous. Especially in yoloqueue when nobody ever buys zhonyas or qss. I was jungling as Maokai (Prolly my fav jungler) and it was Zed vs Ryze in mid lane. I did a lvl 3 gank mid, Zed got first blood and it was an insane snowball from there. He ended up 1v2ing the Ryze & Udyr (enemy jungler) a few minutes later. 20 min win and he had a good 10+ kills or so.

The amount of damage that champion can do, as well as his mobility by being able to switch between shadows is just crazy.

Hey so I am trying to use the attack move suggestions Cerebrindal has in his guide and I am running into slight problems.
Specifically when entering
[GameEvents]
evtPlayerAttackMove=[<Unbound>] evtPlayerAttackMoveClick=[Button 1] evtPlayerSelectClick = [Button 3] evtOnUIMouse4Pan=[<Unbound>]

[MouseSettings]
RollerButtonSpeed = 0

[HUDEvents]
evtOnUIMouse1 = [Button 1], [Button 3] evtOnUIMouse2 = [Button 2] evntHudMoveableSelect = [Button 3]

it's totally doing the left move attack move thing perfectly but now my Q and E will only activate using Shift-Q/E.

I do not grok, please help?!
Thanks!
