It looks pretty interesting, Mafia 2 was a great game if you haven't played it yet - on steam, BC on xbox one I think. Kinda interesting/weird to play as only a black character, wonder if that will help or hurt sales

anyone excited about this?

i've watched a handful of youtube vids, and it looks like a lot of fun. like GTA but dare I say more story? I duno maybe tough to tell with a handful of videos.. but it looks neat and I'm thinking about buying it at release... which seems to be a rarer thing for me these days

these guys suck at the game, but the game looks like fun, and some interesting mechanics with the mission locations etc.

I really liked both Mafia's although I didn't like how they completely destroyed the story in Mafia 2 with cutting content to sell as DLC. The full game as it was supposed to ship would have been a million times better. With that said, looking forward to another one.

got it on pre order but not sure whats the deal with no reviews until release day (that always seems a bad sign) and I wonder how heavy handed the racist stuff is gonna be. If its time period appropriate I'm cool, but if there is a lot of heavy handed "AND WHITE PEOPLE IN THE 60S WERE ALL RACIST PIECES OF SHIT" sjw drivel I will be pissed

There's a danger of slight repetition when taking down rackets, as you have to cause X amount of monetary damage before a "boss" will come out to end that mission to take over a district but so far all the main line missions have either been pretty entertaining or slow intentionally for atmosphere.

I've no idea why they wouldn't give review copies to the "Big Guys" like IGN and Gamespot, maybe they felt bad since they didnt give them to the smaller outlets and went for parity?
The feeling I get was that it's just 2K being EXTREMELY paranoid and overprotective about Pirated Copies since its a high value triple AAA single player game that 2K has very high hopes for. They had the game on mobile PS4's under 2 layers of lock and key when they were traveling around to various outlets who couldn't make it to their HQ.

Is it as good as GTAV?
I can't tell from only 4 hours played but I can say there's no way this game is "bad" and posting buggy funny gif's is just as easy as with GTAV, so that's no real indicator, hell those things are in our opinion good for the game as it makes for funny videos! (as long as those bugs are infrequent as they seemed to be)
After playing it we felt it was a pretty easy buy in our minds, but can only say for sure after a full review.

I estimate that outlets will give it between 8-9's, maybe one or two 7's on the low end. Im sure the press will dock it for no multiplayer since they will compare it so closely to GTAV.

todays last day to cancel for pre orders from amazon/best buy, i'm going to keep mine since the only other thing to really play between now and battlefield/cod/gears is forza horizon

Yet, I find it hilarious that somehow he has a copy to play when no other outlets do. Gee, wonder why that is.

Now it could be bad, or it could be good, or in-between. I just find it highly suspicious when this clown is given a copy to play, yet no one else is.

I am waiting at this point just to make sure the PC version is up to snuff and people are happy with it. If not, then will look at what people are saying about the PS4 version. Right now, I am more worried about bugs and reasons why they held back review copies when everyone and their mom had Civ 6 a month ago and they didn't do anything to stonewall that product. So there has to be an underlying reason they held off on all copies going to real review sites.

I think it is a waste of the Mafia name. It is just a generic dude bro open world GTA clone. The original Mafia strived to be different, but like everything these days, it gets dumbed down for the plebby masses.

Posted impressions I noticed.

mission structure is insanely repetitive.
weapons are not very varied.
melee kill animations (while satisfying) are not varied enough to keep the satisfaction rolling.
story and writing continues to impress.
not much to explore in the city, basically driving from this "kill everyone" mission to another "kill everyone" mission.
I initially loved the collectibles, but now I'm realizing the only incentive for me to explore the boring buildings of the city is to see naked girls in the playboy magazines
3 hours = 'holy shit this is amazing', 6 hours = 'I wish there wasn't so much gameplay in between story beats'

Then someone comes in and says past hour 6 it gets better again.

But locking the damn PC version to 30 frames? I didn't upgrade to a 1070 for this, but come on. That better be fixed with the day one patch.

yeah apparently the PC and xbox ports are utter trash. PC is frame locked, REALLY shitty textures (seriously image caps look like they are from a 360), wonky animations, etc. Do not buy on PC.

xbox one is just as bad, runs at 720p and under 30 fps. PS4 is I guess better, or at least haven't seen anyone say its crap, but now I'm kinda bummed. My copy already shipped out too but I'll play and trade it in, then I can truly say I know what its like being a black man in america whenever someone says im racist
