Saw the movie last night, the movie had the best superhero action sequences ever constructed in cinema. Overall I'd put it at my second favorite superhero movie, just behind TDK. All the flaws I noticed were made acceptable because of this. I think a lot of critics need a certain formula of cinema in order to enjoy. This movie is made for comic book and superhero fans first and film aficionados second. Anyone who thinks this is the best shit ever will love this movie:

the first person scenes of him fighting zod were the top. I haven't seen a live action film even attempt to showcase that kind of The destruction of so much cityspace with such powerful characters and they execute it perfectly.

For the unavoidable nitpicking:
Zod was an excellent villian played incredibly, but the character itself was fairly incompetent. Nearly every move he made was without strategic merit or forethought. Everything from exposing to Superman his plans immediately to starting the terraforming device before his team acclimated to Earth to leaving it undefended to using the breeding ship as an attack vessel etc was a stupid, poorly thought out move.

I liked Superman killing Zod and thought it fit well with the superman character even though it seemed a little forced and unexplained that Superman couldn't just throw Zod away. I saw the scene as Zod feeling completely hopeless after the destruction of his race and begging Superman to kill him.

The ending where thousands of people were likely dying around superman in Metropolis and he hangs out with Lois Lane was a little weird.

I wonder if the smashing into the bank vault scene from the movie was an homage to that Captain Marvel fight. Also, I didn't see it mentioned here yet, but apparently the satellite that Zod smashes into has a Wayne Enterprises insignia on it.

its just basically 2 guys slamming each other into buildings for 3 minutes. it gets old after about the 3rd time someone gets put through a building, let alone 30

I understand the grip about thousands dying but don't worry, he saved the girl mentality but if you look for that plot hole you'll always tend to find it.

Need I remind you all of all the innocent independent contractors who lost their lives on the Death Star 2.0?

Great movie , zero complaints out of me. Extremely well done and the origin story aspect growing up was done excellent. The "I dont give a fuck terraform this shit" was insane at the destruction it was causing. Also wish Non took of his helmet , bastards.

Saw last night. I went into it expecting an entertaining super hero movie. Met my expectations. Some of the pacing was a bit....off, and almost felt rushed at points, but overall, a much better, and more human (ironically) Superman movie. I enjoyed it. Far better than Superman returns.

And yes...Michael Shannon was far and away the best thing about this film. Every second of him on screen was fantastic.

Loved it. Knew what I was going to get with Snyder at the helm and the action sequences were even better then I was expecting. Liked how they handled the kid stuff, and while the movie had its flaws it was so over the top it was great.

Shannon better get more role's after this one he was fantastic, as was the actress playing Faora (Antje Traue)

All without a story?

Unlike any previous Superman movie, it actually gave us a story on what was going on with Krypton. It also, unlike Superman II, gave us motivation for Zod. He wasn't just some supervillain without any real motivation. You could easily sympathize with why he was doing what he was doing. It also gave us an overall arc of how he was raised, his conflicts in how to use his powers and him trying to come to grips with him being different than humans.

So yeah, if that is a movie without story, then bring on a sequel of the same.

I would just like to point out that they could easily do the same thing with the Kryptonians the Fast and Furious franchise did with Letty.
There is only Zod's word about the fate for all of the outposts and Zod is a man who by his own admission has the sole purpose of recreating Krypton. So he would have every reason to lie and mindfuck Kal to persuade him this is the only hope for their people. In all likelihood they raided outposts for all of the gear they acquired and killed any opposition.

Well then stop trying to post like a hipster douche. You are a comic book nerd. Story is not a concern for our kind.

It did $125 million, to be the biggest June opener in history. And all without a story. So now the next trilogy is guaranteed to be more of the same: non stop action.
Excellent. My only hope is that they do away with all mention of origins and get straight to the punch fest. Growing up in Kansas has never been interesting, and the idea that somehow growing up in the bible belt on a farm makes you more American (and have more pure morals) is trite, cliche bullshit. Was there apple pie on the windowsill, too?

I was surprised how much I liked the Krypton opening scenes. It didn't feel like Avatar to me, but more like some 1950's inspired concept of an alien world, with a weird mash of high technology and exotic biological life, and not in an overdone way like the recent Star Wars films. Was hoping they would squeeze in Brainiac but oh well. I hope the next one is with Darkseid or Doomsday. Hopefully Doomsday because it means no talking.

No trolling...being quite honest.

I thought it was awful.

Thought the CG during the Zod fights was Matrix 3 levels of bad, a lot of the story just felt wicked forced, and I really...really disliked Amy Adams as Lois Lane. I thought the military played far too prominent a role in the movie, along with all the B Movie/TV Extras. To me it honestly felt like they just kept trying to add in big names for minor roles, and those minor roles ballooned. Aside from Lois, the other four "main" characters were great (Kevin Kostner, Michael Shannon, Russel Crowe, and Henry Cavil) but damn if the writing didn't just feel awful for EVERY other character including Lois.

Anyways not trolling and not interested in getting into a massive flame war over it...I did walk out of the theater feeling like someone had just shot my dog though.
