the biggest issue is this game is like 10 years too late
Is it 10 years too late? Tarkov didn't really start exploding til about 2019/18ish, which would line up to when most of the extraction shooters started coming out that follow the formula(23,24,25). Hunt came out around 2018, but it's fundamentally a different game that is more about a character ticket rather than loot gain. The most egregious problem really is that it's hard to "simplify" the thing that makes Tarkov, Tarkov. The complexities are really what make tarkov so, argubly "approachable.." for a lot of people. Tarkov has almost everything for everybody.. I've played with spreadsheet junkies who optimize the best craft to make the most roubles on the flea and/or optimal farm routes, i've played with gun nerds who just love the gun mechanics and customization, i've played w/ epsort sweats that just wanna run and gun labs 8 hrs a day, and i've played with people who are rpg fanatics that want to quest, and level, and skill up. It's literally just playing D2 with Hostile permanently on, doing meph and baal runs round clock.

I am personally down for it visually..but some red flags are coming out of the "enjoyment" criticisms.. the most obvious was no proximity; its pretty much a must now.. but its falling into the same pitfall that the cycle did where when in Tier 4 gear, you are near impervious to anything lesser. Making "clutch" moments or "saves" nigh impossible because of the gear differential. It's not incredibly hard to rock a guy in Lv6 and an Altyn in Tarkov with a Mosin and a handful of bullets. I strictly run budget kits because its way more fun to lose nothing, and gain 200x profit. This, so far doesn't have it. Solo'ing is a horrible experience, and MnK AA is awkward.

After doing more research the style is call vectorheart, it's that late 90s y2k style but bungie missed the mark. It should be more wild and interesting, jet set radio, a game i played a lot as a kid super puzzle bobble, Wipeout, Ridge Racer Type 4. the character miss the mark
Lol yeah, vectorheart is half of it.. I usually just say y2k aesthetic because of some of the advert, product, and interior design that don't particularly use the vectorheart style but still fit the overall y2k era.. but it's all utopian optimistic futurism through corpo aestheticism.. liquid metal galore, jamiroquai virtual insanity, blood rave ect.. I was also a big JSR and Parappa fan as a kid. I still listen to the RRT4 soundtrack on occasions. I also loved Jet Moto, and while not racing I get that vibe somewhat.. ontop of I get a lot of Reboot with the character designs. Have you played Bomb Rush Cyberfunk or look at Nightrunners?

also didn't dmz get shutdown, or all development stop

Thats all balance shit they can fix. Im sure this "Alpha" is a part of this. You cant really balance a game like this internally, it needs to be spread to the min-maxers, the campers, the whatever the fuck, so they can get some real numbers from. Internal testing can only get you so far.

As to the cost, well thats a fucking Bungie thing. I used to pay $100 per year to play destiny. Quite pricey for the amount of content they shelled out every year. But people still pay it, less annd less of them, but they still pay. Every time a new major expansion hits people line up to pay it.

Agreed. I have heard positives with the actual gun game, the fights being fun/intense, and ai being relatively interesting with flanking and trying to do things within the combat rather than just mindlessly walking at you or auto-aim you into oblivion.. Which I assume might come from Destiny? idk.. I don't have much time invested there, but it really just is AI just tuck shoot tuck shoot; how hard can it really be lol. Pest mentions that the TTK on fodder AI is too long, and 1-2 mag dumps into people is rough in those clutches; but yeah for an alpha it seems not incredibly buggy, just barren.

I'm just hoping I can pay out the basegame, and not be force to buy expansions.. just watch shovels of battle passes and cosmetics. I'm all down to kill people wearing vanilla cosmetics.. but the paywalls iirc behind Destiny that ties power spikes via items is scary when thinking what they could do with something that taxes your time per death.

I just hope when this game releases, it can maintain more than 20k player base.. about the extent of my playing with extraction shooters, any less and the game is pretty much RIP. 10k playerbase is do-able, but fights become less and it starts falling into farmfarmfarmfight.

I wonder how much of it was gutted, after Concord bombed and Sony had to re-think the "Live-Service" model.

Seems for it being in dev for such a long time, it has a LOT of missing content..

This is the thing, Bungie has always been king of PvE encounters, while Destiny I/II I don't really care for the stupid fucking monetary scheme, the actual fights are truly genius with there systems. Which is why I was kind of excited they were bringing Marathon back, but once I heard Extraction Shooter *facepalm* wtf.

Exactly. Tarkov beat it to the market and set the bar really high for a semi-realistic extraction shooter. I know Marathon isn't going for that but it isn't the point. This game, at least as it is right now, needed to be the first one out the door.
