Game seems to have a pretty nice following...

Is this similar to Diablo, in that you'll hear a lot of bad stuff about it, but those are usually people that haven't played it more recently? Still hating from a fucked up launch?

Having an entire Steam library of games to play doesn't help a damn thing if I'm sick of single player games. How does Marvel stack up in that respect? I played DCUO and getting in on some of the dungeons with people was pretty fun, and that's pretty much what I'm looking for. Want to use some cool hero abilities, level up MMO style, rock some dungeons to get better gear, etc.

Marvel Heroes is exactly how you described in terms in rating. I played the beta and right at the launch, terrible game imo. Came back now and I can't get enough of it.

This isn't much of an MMO really, its an ARPG like Diablo, POE, Titan Quest, etc. They are adding raiding, but as for "MMO" its not really your typical one such as DCUO.

Gotcha. Had a feeling it was getting a bad rap from it's launch.

So like Diablo. Fair enough. Is there any reason to seek out other players? Now granted there really isn't much of a reason in Diablo so this might be similar, but figured I'd ask.

Early on there isn't unless you're doing quest objectives in a zone called Midtown or doing a zone called X-Defense (waves of monsters etc). The first 40 levels or so are fairly easy unless you pick one of the heroes that haven't gotten their reviews yet, which are taking place between now and the next few months.

They're adding lots of stuff every two weeks, constant balance fixes, raiding soon, PVP updates, new heroes (Nightcrawler on the 30th!). The next fix for grouping is sharing Legendary Quests which will be amazing because LQs are currently the fastest way to level once you hit level 20. Currently everyone just gets their own LQ, but with the sharing feature groups will have a reason to stay together. Obviously people do run some of the endgame stuff in groups, but even then if you're decked out in gear you can solo it.

I had 7 hours since launch through Dec 21st. From Dec 21st until now I have 80 hours altogether, if it wasn't for my friends playing other games like Dota or Chivalry I would be on this even more.

Also, free codes (nothing too special currently) - HOLIDAYBOOSTS , IM3HRTBREAKER (Iron man costume, but not IM himself) , HULKLOVESHOLIDAYS (I think this one is still available, Hulk santa costume).

Not much need to group and by not much I mean no real need except for.. When you hit 20 and can start doing legendaries and Midtown then you can profitably group up but no one does it really. If you do though shout out what you need (90 robots, Maggia, whatever) and the folks on your team can help you flatten them and vice versa. It goes super fast. The system only gives you occasional midtown quests so you kinda have to buy your way out of the ones that take you elsewhere.
I think the dynamics of the game screw over the desire to group by giving you no reason to group till 20th and by then you are in a solo groove and grouping feels weird.

Your results may vary.

Diablo added in systems where grouping gave more experience and better loot. It wasn't full on dungeons mmo style, but it at least gave incentive to group with other people.

I suppose it's all about what you make of it.

So it's FTP. Do they do that model well, or is paying going to give me distinct advantages?

No advantages to paying other than storage space. There are other things that use "g" like costumes and cards but afaik no distinct advantage.

I broke down and dropped 20$ for more storage. Otherwise, everything else can be earned through grinding.

I'm glad they don't try and put the most basic of functions behind a pay-wall. Looks like something I could get into.

Thanks for the info guys.

You pretty much need to throw down on some storage if you plan to play multiple characters to 60, maybe even before then. A few general storage spaces and 1 crafting mats storage would do pretty well for awhile. If you're just playing one character or just casually playing and trying to decide if this is the game for you, you'll be fine for awhile.

Haha I watch him quite a bit. He is probably the best MH streamer as of right now, but there really aren't that many. GL getting those giveaways, always 50+ people in there.

Started watching that guys stream to see some gameplay. Looks interesting. Graphics are terrible, but that doesn't mean much. Looks very simple, but since I've downloaded it and created an account I might as well give it a try.

Edit: Ok, Bwana is playing a different Hero and it looks much better. He was doing something on Hulk, and just looked kinda stupid. lol

Got the 600 splinters necessary for GR last night. Excited to start him up. Also finally leveled Cable up to 60. Combined with him being really, stupidly overpowered and the XP synergy system I think I got him to 60 in like 6 hours. Farmed some T4 Red Doom on him last night and got a good slot3 cosmic (well it was a blue I upgraded to purple then cosmic -- it got really nice stat rolls each level up) ,his slot5 unique and a HoD in just an hour. Really good luck. I already had his slot1 and slot2 uniques. So he is pretty much running a one man rape train combined with also having a level3 legendary. So that puts my roster at:

60's: Deadpool, Colossus (full uniques / legendary .. my "main"), Rocket (full uniques somehow despite not playing him much), Cage (credit farming bitch), Cable
50's: Scarlet Witch, Cyclopes (also an easy level but horribly boring), Emma

Probably missing a few characters. Going to level GR next then probably Torch while getting splinters to buy Nightcrawler. I tried leveling Wolverine but think I'll wait for his review. Same with Captain America.

If anyone has any questions or anything hit me up IGN: dwil or just PM me

I just got Iron Man to 60 last night, played Cyclops to 23, gonna push for 50 tonight. I didn't find the 50-60 grind as awful as people made it, but I used some of the experience bars to help. Still felt pretty fast.

Its a shame people ruined the 2600G code giveaways, would have loved to get my hands on one, wtb S.T.A.S.H

With a vacation later this month I intend to get a character to 60 finally. Have Cable and Colossus in the mid-late 30s and a couple others in the teens and lower.

Really discouraging as someone who doesn't play it all that often to have to redo my talents every. single. time. I log on.

Yeah but they really are making some pretty huge changes. Cable is so OP right now and Colossus is damn good also. Those two are not getting reviewed anytime soon so I don't think you'll have to worry about having to respec anymore.

Upcoming Hero Reviews:

January: Captain America and Hawkeye confirmed.

February: Daredevil and Black Panther confirmed. Black Widow 90% likely.

March/April: TBD, some combination of Cyclops, Thor, Thing, Storm, Hulk, Scarlet Witch and Wolverine.

We've started working on ultimates / signatures for a lot of these heroes, some of which will take over a month to complete.

Note about reviews:

The main point of hero level 52 reviews these days is not damage or survivability. Those are handled separately and now in the same order of magnitude for every hero - with weekly small tuning adjustments based on hard data and "feel".

Instead, the goal of level 52 reviews is now:

What does this hero need to be fun

What would be cool to add?

What powers can be improved in some way

Does this hero have some kind of group utility for raiding / group content?

What additional tools does this hero need for single target/AOE/spirit maintenance/etc

Is there something over-the-top we can add to this hero as a ridiculously amazing ult or signature or general power?

Free character I think and a number of permanent bonuses for doing story stuff.
