So Marvel wants to avoid paying out RDJ money, but he's the reason Iron Man will have a big part in the next Capt. America movie? That makes no sense. I think the reason he'll have a big part in the next Capt America movie is because it's called Civil War and Iron Man was a major player in the comic. There was probably some uncertainty about RDJ doing it at some point, but it sounds like they've gotten that resolved?

My guess is, at this point, Marvel still knows RDJ is their cash cow. Out of the top five movies Marvel has had at the box office, he's been in four of them (Iron Man trilogy and Avengers). But, due to his high cost, the rumor is Marvel wants to eventually phase him out. Personally speaking, I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon and Marvel would be foolish to do so. My point was just that more signs point towards Marvel being done with RDJ than RDJ being done with them, and I highly doubt he announcement will be him retiring the character.

A year and a half ago the only indication RDJ would finish with Iron Man was logic and RDJ's own statements. It's good that he's turned around it, but I don't think Marvel is anything but thrilled at that development.

It could also be something along the lines where he'll take on a lesser role, maybe retire as Iron Man but remain in some way, maybe after Civil War he'll take a role similar to the comics where he becomes the head of SHIELD.

Making Tony Stark the director of SHIELD would be an interesting way of working Civil War into Agents of SHIELD. Depending on Stark's actions in the next couple of movies, it could make sense for Coulson to cede control of SHIELD to him, particularly if they are on Iron Man's side. If they side with Captain America, however, perhaps we'll see them breaking off to continue going in their own direction (though that'd sort of make the name's show no longer apply) at which point not seeing much of Stark would make sense.

For what it's worth, Robert Downey Jr. hasexpressed intereston making an appearance on the show.

Have you watched the show? Agent Coulson is the Head of Shield.
So you think if Coulson handed over the directorship it would be for Stark to join the small scale little version currently on the show?

No, it would be full blown SHIELD bankrolled by Stark. He'd be in the Nick Fury director role, not the current Coulson covert ops one.

Would make sense. His father was a founding father of SHIELD. SHIELD died, and became mini shield with Coulson in charge and is starting to have the government work with them again. What better way than to have a Stark redevelop SHIELD into the Government task force that regulates super heros that turns Iron Man vs Capt America? Not saying RDJ would be on more than a small handful of SHIELD shows, but it's sure better than Ally Mcbeal. The money and better connection between show/movies should be right up his alley.

Cap 3 wasn't initially called Civil war...They changed that right before the marvel event.

Yeah so? it's still a ways out. I'm sure they've maybe gotten a few rough drafts of the screen play done and bam, they just got spidey last week so back to the drawing board there. It's not like they've started filming anything yet, so they certainly hadn't started any real work before the marvel event.

they had an idea for Cap3 (serpent something) but all the while they where in talks with RDJ. they get the contract details worked out and bam, it's civil war. they've got an idea for civil war and looking for some character to play the spiderman role, all the while they are in talks with Sony, and bam, it's civil war with motherfucking spiderman.
