The latest Emergency Awesome video pointed out a flaw with the show that has been bothering me: the lack of a real, visible, "big bad". I think this is especially noticeable in the first few episodes where people are just kind of doing stuff and dealing with henchmen. Once the Leviathan plot got going it became a bit better, but those first couple episodes really feel kind of aimless.

Here's my core question. I watched the first episode and haven't found the desire to watch any more of it so far on the DVR. Is there a cliff notes version anywhere with what I'll need in order to not miss anything vital in the MCU once it's done?

im not as comic book nazi as lyrical, but there doesnt seem to be any major changes from what we know in the marvel movie canon so far. i mean howard stark invents some shady stuff that gets stolen, it pisses off the gubment, they think he was a spy/traitor, but now that leviathon is being acknowledged stark's culpability is lessening. basically if you skipped this show thus far it wont effect anything outside of it. of course that may change in the next 3 episodes.

I think part of the problem is that the SSR is meant to function as a foil to Peggy. They aren't necessarily the "big bad", but they're an obstacle since Peggy has to work around to help Stark. But, for the most part, they've been shown to largely be imbeciles and really haven't posed much of a threat to her. This looks to change next week, but even Sousa discovering Peggy was the woman in the club was mostly happenstance (and I think it's a little dumb that for as good of an agent Peggy is supposed to be, she didn't think to cover up something that could conclusively identify her). Hell, up until this point, Miriam has been the closest one to finding Stark.

I also lol at the ineptitude of the SSR. I think it's funny that the title voiceover says something like "I work for the SSR, America's premier covert intelligence agency", yet every SSR agent other than Peggy is basically on Paul Blart: Mall Cop tier.

They've been one step behind Peggy the entire time, and she's supposed to be the bestest secret agent out there. They're not as bumbling and stupid as you guys are painting them. And now one of them have finally figured out that she's central to the whole thing. I mean, it wouldn't be much of a show if our heroine and superspy was just busted episode one. They're still after Stark because so much evidence has pointed to him, but even there they're wising up.

Basically, take it easy on the poor guys=P

Leviathan isn't Hydra fyi. They are a different faction completely. I'm wondering if we will see some of their nastier members later on.

Very curious what happened at that battle they are investigating that was a total slaughter

I dunno. They do seem to laugh at all real detective type work. Like when cripple guy brings in the witness and the other guy is like LOL wtf you doing interrogating a witness!? NOOB!

I mean you are quoting a wiki to say it doesn't jibe with the wiki's source material.
not so, i am saying the male SSR agents on agent carter do not jibe with their wiki description. please cite the correct wiki that has the SSR as a bunch of bumbling meatheads?

SSR during the war != SSR post war. While they are the same organization, the funding and staffing is very clearly diminished. As far as they know, HYDRA is gone.

And what do you think is a better source, the show that's responsible for creating the mythos or a wiki written about the mythos?

If the wiki doesn't jibe with the show, that's a problem with the wiki.

so they went from a bunch of geniuses responsible for the super soldier program to this in just a few months?

Head of the program died, Stark isn't playing ball with the SSR. Plus, don't forget that HYDRA is infiltrating everything due to Operation Paperclip (even though they don't know it).

Don't forget 616 blackwidow has the red skull variant of the super soldier serum, so she's got a long life span. (we're reminded of this in the horrible AXIS crossover where capt merica, wolverine, nick fury and black widow all meet yearly for dinner and have been doing so for years b/c they are ancient)
