Do people actually sub to this Origin access shit? If you have to buy the game anyway what benefit is there to subbing to to this.

You get access to 10 hour "demos" of games, no purchase necessary. Like right now you can try Mass Effect, Battlefield and FIFA 2017. It also gives you access to a bunch of free games (not a bad selection of them either) and you also get a 10% discount to purchases. I guess it's not a bad deal if you buy a lot of EA games.

To those saying they hope this game succeeds, I have a question: Why? If everything we're seeing is true and this ends up being a financial success, that is not a good thing.

Animation / synch fix - Turn on subtitles. It draws eyes to text instead of the character faces

UI needs work, nearly every menu feels like it has unnecessary button presses, like Map = M, then Esc, Esc to quit.
I don't need a massive tool tip to climb every piece of furniture in outposts.

I'd argue that the AI is not smart. If you keep at range, both enemies and companions become as special as their facial expressions. Tossing grenades into walls, or just standing there. Enemies will just stand there too letting you shoot them. If you're in a large enough space, you can nearly always break (not sure if it is the accurate word) the AI by running away from combat and moving slowly back. You can pick off enemies then as they don't seem to ever want to charge/follow you past a certain point. AI in close combat seems to work fine for all parties.

Default keyboard layout is strange. Page Down for compare? I added a few commands to my mouse instead, but sadly it won't detect all my buttons. Have scan, melee and dodge mapped to it now. GUI displays don't reflect that though. If the mission suddenly tells you to scan something (like it constantly says PRESS ALT!" for viewing things), a "G" will appear on screen telling me to scan something. It also translates the names of the keys to Norwegian, which annoys me. I hate it when games auto translate things.

Now I am delving into nitpicking though, so overall I agree with Raign so far. It appears mediocre, but will probably end up finishing it at some point.

I think this game suffers a lot from the origin it came from. If it had been released by a fairly unknown studio as their first attempt at a game, not marked (or expected) as an AAA title, it would probably cruise in at a 60-75% range from what I have seen so far. Might increase if the story becomes better, because the game never gets "worse". If you get past the first 5 hours, talk to all people on the ship, do some side quests and the first parts of the 2nd planet, you will most likely have encountered every "bad" there is. At that point, combat will keep getting better and the story has the potential to get better.

It's a disaster only when linked to the Mass Effect universe and the expectations of it. Discarding that it turns into "meh".

The good thing is, for us true ME fans and Sci Fi fans in general, the genre is in, and is gaining followers. This younger generation is absolutely enamored with space and technology, and IPs like Gaurdians of the Galaxy proves this out. I remember when Disney dropped the movie poster for GotG and people were thrashing on it and saying it looked like garbage and the movie would be too.

Except it wasnt. Sci-Fi getting a lot more love in hollywood (Gravity, Passengers, Life etc) as well as in pop culture. So even if this game fails financially and commercially, there will be some new awesome sci fi IP that comes out and is even more amazing than ME. Mass Effect series is just the beginning. And if the fans dont approve of the game, Bioware is going to feel the heat whether they make profit or not, and the next one will HAVE to be better.

Don't kid yourself. If EA does not like the numbers this one generates thanks to it's poor word of mouth then the Mass Effect IP is as good as dead for quite a while.

I... what?
Fx makeup artist... ..but. then why the FUCK is the makeup so shit?
Looking at the character creator vids, and that forum link, this is one of the first times its REALLY stood out to me, how bad video game makeup is.. always. people who make the character creators don't seem to understand how and why's of makeup. So, its really easy to make characters look like cheap prostitutes, as has been noted. that is baffling. someone who I would expect to know better, somehow made one of the worst.

But she clearly has multiple animation jobs listed. the fuck are they on about there.

I totally agree with this. If this was an indie studio or not billed as a Triple-A sequel to an iconic franchise, or it was a $20 steam deal, I would probably not be terribly disappointed with it.. but because it is Bioware and because of the hype, and because they are charging the premium price, this will likely go down as one of larger industry flops of all time (No Mans Sky aside).

As to the Origin sub, I got it just to try this out. The $5 a month is more than covered by the 10% off on the game. That said, looking at the cateloge of free stuff they have, I may keep it for a while, some pretty decent classic games in there I would not mind replaying (Mirrors Edge, All the Ultima series, all the old Wing Commanders etc)

I don't see any video game experience listed, just that Atomic Cartoons thing that seems to be traditional animation with a little 3D. I certainly don't see how she could have known anything at all about Frostbite 3 prior to getting hired. That alone should have prevented her from getting any job above assistant to the assistant to the lead animator.

I get the impression that pretty much all the hiring decisions for this game were made in the same way though.

Exactly fucking this holy shit.

Oh also, just got a 30 day probation on SA :) the 3rd party marketing is there forever. I will now make sure everyone knows about it and all opinions there are paid for. It is my new lot in life bacause as you all know, I hate that shit. With a passion.
