They should have / or will release IS upgraded weaponry/equipment when the Clans officially launch for C-Bills. At least that is what I would do, keeps the playing field even, and gives people a chance to throw away all their old weaponry and buy new stuff! (woo?)

Btw is it my mouse sensitivity or does anyone else's reticle like try to auto-lock on certain hardpoint areas when you are moving around? Makes pinpoint targeting near-impossible.

Never seen that, but I highly rec turning down your mouse sensitivity in Settings, ESPECIALLY if you use the zoom module. I want to say mine is at like 30-40%?

I'll give it a go - I mean I literally jump half a inch when I'm moving my mouse around - and I'm running everything at MAX (but capable of playing it of course.) but I still can't figure out why it jumps so much. I'll throw my mouse sensitivity down and see if that helps.

Did they get rid of the chat feature? Was the only way I could ever find games.

EDIT: Nvm. Found it, it's been awhile.

Still can't find any games.

You know you can join random games at the press of a button, right? There are also channels on various voice programs you can join for more team-oriented games, which info you can find on the forum.

I wasn't happy with their weapon/armor balance in alpha/beta, not sure about how that ended up. My guess was that I'd continue to dislike it post release and I'm sadly happy that I didn't buy Founders.

The lack of community warfare at release just left me feeling like I didn't want to play an FPS game (especially with their choice of game balance and monetization).

Taken from Epikt on mecspecs - thought it was worth the share for those who are interested...

The data is extract from a pool of 11 drops I had today (5 drops in BJ-1) and yesterday (6 drops in HBK-4P). It's not enough to provide accurate and representative results, but it can give a first approximation. Hopefully I'll do more drops in the next days and others will compile similar data.
All drops were in Conquest mode (most ended by mech destruction).
All drops were solo.

After a first examination of the results I chose to remove my own scores from the data because - being a non-random element in the matchmaking (obviously!) and being better than the average - it significantly affects them:
- compared to other IS mediums I had 44% higher score, 57% higher damage, 83% more kills and 42% less death, causing a variation of +14% in score, +18% in damage, +27% in kills and -14% in deaths.
- compared to other IS mechs I had 46% higher score, 57% higher damage, 67% more kills and 34% less deaths, causing a variation of +6% in score, +7% in damage, +8% in kills and -1.7% in deaths.
(since 3/3/3/3 is not active yet, not including me should not affect the mech pool repartition)

The mech pool was composed as follows:

IS 36.4%
light 6.5%
medium 9.3%
heavy 8.9%
assault 11.7%

clan 63.6%
light 4.5%
medium 12.6%
heavy 24.3%
assault 22.3%

It makes 2 clan mechs for 1 IS mech (I am amazed by how many players preordered those mechs! ). Almost 1/4 of all mechs were clan heavies and more than 1/5 clan assaults.
We also notice clan lights are not popular.

Now here are the average scores.
The number in brackets next to clan results is the variation compared to the equivalent IS result.

/!\ Those results must be taken cautiously! /!\
First, as already stated, the drop sample is very small and can't pretend to give any representative result.
Second, clans are new to the game and we're on a transitory phase. Only in few week or months, when players would have unlocked their mechs' perks and got used to the new tech, we'll be able to have a better view of the game balance.

IS
score 45
kills 0.76
assists 4.2
dmg 307
death 0.68
victory 0.49

Clans
score 47 (+4%)
kills 0.66 (-14%)
assists 4.2 (-0.5%)
dmg 325 (+6%)
death 0.70 (+3%)
victory 0.53 (+8%)

Funny thing, while when dropping in a clan mech you have better chance of victory and you will in average deal more damage, IS mechs still get more kills. Higher pin-point damage is probably an explanation.
That being said, differences are not huge.

Now sorted by classes.

IS light
score 44
kills 0.63
assists 5.2
dmg 265
death 0.43
victory 0.68

Clan light
score 30 (-31%)
kills 0.55 (-13%)
assists 3.8 (-26%)
dmg 189 (-29%)
death 0.64 (+45%)
victory 0.36 (-47%)

Clan lights are not popular, it also looks like they're not efficient
On the other hand, IS light mechs appear to give the team a nice victory bonus (in conquest only?).

IS medium
score 46
kills 0.70
assists 4.3
dmg 309
death 0.78
victory 0.47

Clan medium
score 49 (+7%)
kills 0.74 (+7%)
assists 4.4 (+2%)
dmg 347 (+12%)
death 0.74 (-5%)
victory 0.48 (+1%)

Large damage difference in favor of clans, and slightly more kills too. Nova in da place!

IS heavy
score 46
kills 1.1
assists 3.5
dmg 331
death 0.68
victory 0.41

Clan heavy
score 50 (+8%)
kills 0.67 (-39%)
assists 5.2 (+49%)
dmg 336 (+2%)
death 0.68 (+0%)
victory 0.61 (+51%)

Outch! IS heavies dealt similar damage but kill almost twice as clan of the same class! I'm not sure it's a good thing, but the rise of meta TBRs will probably balance this result in the near future.
I can't think of an explanation for IS heavies low victory rate.

IS assault
score 45
kills 0.66
assists 4.2
dmg 323
death 0.79
victory 0.44

Clan assault
score 46 (+1%)
kills 0.62 (-6%)
assists 3.1 (-25%)
dmg 327 (+1%)
death 0.73 (-8%)
victory 0.49 (+10%)

Again more kills for IS (despite having way less DS than usual on the field). Close results though.

Roughly, it confirms my first impression of clan tech being pretty balanced (with some reserves I already ventured).
That being said, we can expect clan mechs to become more effective when mastered, possibly causing unbalance (wait and see).

Certainly interesting, but only 11 drops? Even as he himself pointed out, I'd want a far larger sample size before making any conclusions. What I would really like to see is some of the guilds or whatever doing matches with parity in tonnage, one side IS and the other Clan, and a bunch of those. Wonder if any plan to do that for shits and giggles.

Gorillaz isn't being a 100% truthful
Itwas a very brief explanation. It wasn't a lie. I'm sorry you are having a hard time with the Clans. But that just means you need to work on being a better player

In the end 12v12 3 Victors 3 3Ds 3 Shadow Hawks and 3 Embers beats any combination of Clans in 3/3/3/3.

Poptarting is still the safest, most effective and efficient tactic in MWO . And the Clans suck at it.

Well I played my 25 matches as a cadet and finally had 3 games where I pulled a positive KD:A. Definitely an interesting learning curve. I finally figured out my targetting problem (being in 3rd person screws up your mouse aiming tremendously - and auto-locks onto various parts of a mech. 1st person is literally the only way to pilot.) After I got over that hurdle ~10 games in I overcame my next hurdle which was horrible loadouts and learning weapons. I only have a catapult ATM that I outfitted as a missile boat with some ERMEDLASx2 for the rare time I run out of ammo. I am liking fire support, and love being the commander at match beginnings. Coordinating attacks and commanding lances has led to some turnaround victories.

So far a fun game. Once I get more c-bills under my belt and some more GXP (which is hard to get apparently) I'll eventually unlock a TWOLF in October and probably make that my mainstay mech.

LRMs are a lot of fun. Much more about situational awareness than twitch necessarily.

I'm just going to give you a few LRM tips, not knowing what you know.

BAP counters ECM (which blocks locks) within 150m. Great for making sure a Light Mech can't shut you down.

TAG cuts through ECM and makes your missiles cluster better, but does use an energy slot.

If you see what almost looks like a WIFI symbol next to someone, it means they are NARC'd, and are able to be locked onto outside of LOS, normally they are great targets, but pay attention if they've gotten into cover.

LRMs have a minimum range of 180m, so make sure not to fire at that point.

Big thing is you can get caught up looking for locks, don't let the team leave you behind.

Yea, I've learned most of that through trial and error - I haven't much found a good counter to light mechs harassing me in-range, but I'm a support mech so that's not my forte really. I'm torn between saving Cbills and unlocking an XL engine so I can re-equip jump jets or just get a bit more top speed out of my mech. I run a BAP, I find that I still can't target some mechs that I can visually see, not sure if that is ECM or something else.

I heard you can dumbfire your LRMS in a direction then acquire a target lock on a mech and they re-acquire and home in on them, is that true?

If you like the Catapult, (my two favorite mechs in game are both Catapults - the K2 and A1) this is my A1 that I enjoy.CPLT-A1I've been surprised at just how many games I've been pulling 900+ damage lately. It's also great to pad your K/D ratio with (if you care about that - which you shouldn't =P) In my K2 lights scare the crap outta me, but with 4 streaks in this baby, I love seeing lights - easy kills! When reds get in your sweet spot of both LRMs and Streaks that's 49 damage per alpha (spread out of course, but still). Now mind you I have it elite'd, and use 3 mods - Advanced Target Decay, Advanced Seismic Sensor, Radar Deprivation - but I still think it'd be a solid fun mech even without. Just make sure to stay with your group as they move - if you fall behind... well bad things can happen. Even with an XL engine the Catapult is a surprisingly tough little guy, and you can 1v1 injured mechs pretty well (keep jumping around while maintaining lock), but if more than 1 get in brawl range, you're likely dead. I realize it's expensive for a newer player, but maybe something you'd be interested in putting together to try out.

You know... I'm embarrassed to say I don't know - never tried. You can only dumbfire with Artemis, but I DO know you can dumbfire at mechs/locations and your missiles will still do damage - it's not optimal, but if you're stuck against a heavy ECM team it's certainly worth doing.

You can't dumbfire then lock. You can lock, fire, drop lock purposely then relock to curve missiles. But it is very hard to do

Broke down and bought the Timber Wolf pack - didn't want to wait 2 months to start playing a mech I enjoy, plus the 30% perm cbill boost and mech hangars seemed nice, and I can spend my 20,000MC on premium time or something.

It gets injected tonight, rah - how can I friend you guys, I think my max damage in a match has been 300, but I haven't actually been in a mech that brawls yet, so I'm hoping I'm not terrible at this game.

My IGN is Nidhogg.

All this activity in this thread got me playing again and I did the same thing yesterday, picked up the Timberwolf a la carte. It just seemed like the most interesting Clan mech. Im having a blast with it so far but getting used to dabbling with LRMs is a new experience. Ive been more of a brawler or ankle biter with my Spider. How much has changed regarding Spiders in the last six months? Last I checked in there was copious amounts of hit box rage (which allowed me to rack up some insane damage numbers), has much changed in that regard? Im too rusty to pull out the spider just yet but Im curious what Im in for when I finally do.

Btw UI 2.0 blows. Goddamn mechlab is a convoluted mess now..

I never owned them myself, so I was one of the ones bitching about hitboxes and lagshields =p.

It seems they are much easier to fight now with whatever they changed with the hitbox settings, and hitbox improvements. But they still retain about 70% of their tankyness they had before. I constantly see them run through entire enemy teams and come out only half dead.

Post nerf many of the spider mechs switched to whichever chasis the "Firestarter" is in. They seemed to run machine guns + small lasers.

May have to check into the Firestarter. It looks to be one of the mechs they added during my hiatus so Im unfamiliar with it. After another day of Timberwolf play though im in love with that thing. Im not quite back up to the damage numbers I used to see but Im slowly shaking off the ring rust.

Also, might be a stupid question but does this new ui show your available tonnage when you're in the mechlab playing with loadouts? I cant seem to locate it anywhere.

Bottom right hidden between the damage and heat management info. The currrent UI is the worst I've ever seen, to the point that I run sub-optimal fits or just log out instead of refitting some stuff like modules back and forth.

Thanks, Ill look for it tonight when Im tweaking builds. I got so frustrated with the UI this weekend I was building stuff in Smurfy and would duplicate it in game once I got happy with what I had.
