Thanks, Ill look for it tonight when Im tweaking builds. I got so frustrated with the UI this weekend I was building stuff in Smurfy and would duplicate it in game once I got happy with what I had.
To be honest, that's pretty much what everybody does. Which makes it that much more sad.

As far as the Firestarter, it's a love hate thing - you love them on your side and you hate them on the other teams side.

The Ember (Hero mech), doesn't seem like much, normal build is 4ML and 4MG, but it shreds like mad. Add in that it runs on an XL295 and goes 150kph with jump jets, and you have the perfect mech for hit and runs. Very much like Jenner but cooler.

I love running mine when I'm solo dropping or just doing a quick match or two.

I'm loving the Timber Wolf - has tons of firepower plus mobility. Finding it way easier to command the battlefield while still being relevant. Question though - what purpose does the command / lance command give other than a way to get PUGs to maybe follow orders? There is no command EXP in the game that I can see, or reason to bother clicking the Command button (I've never seen anyone but me ever do it.)

It doesn't do anything yet, hope for the future though. It does help if people are following some "plan". But finding diciplined players in a PUG is rare. It does happen, and when it does it's pretty awesome. What's funny is I occasionally take command by accident. There must be a key that isn't listed for taking command because I usually take command when I'm looking at the map and talking in teamspeak. If I had to guess I say it's "P" since that is my push to talk button.

That happens to me quite a bit too - taking command by mistake. I don't push "p" so I really don't know what it is. Something to do with tab, shift, alt I think.

PUGs aren't good at tactics, even though several maps have damn near guaranteed "do this and you win" tactics. You'd think people would know by now, but everyone is a special snowflake that knows best.

IGN is Nidhogg, I love playing this but not motivated if I'm not playing with mates. Throw your names down so we can hit up some TS and rampage some battlefields.

I took the plunge on the Firestarter Mastery bundle last night. I didnt get too much time in the Ember, but while I love the increased firepower over the Spider, the lack of ECM is very prevalent...Im just not used to having to pay attention to missiles when zipping around being an annoyance.

My IGN is SR Nyx. Im not sure how you feel about the Houses or how into the Battletech/Mechwarrior lore you are, but I play with a group called theSkye Rangers. They're a House Steiner based unit and areveryactive, there's always people online playing at all hours of the day from across the world. Some of the folks there take this shit way too seriously but most people are there for the same reason you mention, to have people to play with. The clan is broken down into Regiments, each with it's own play style from the casual "log on and shoot shit" folks to regiments full of 12 man pre-made competitive groups. It's a good place for semi-organized play.

Steiner? No one is perfect I guess, I remember Katherine being a royal backstabbing ahole in the novels.
If you have a TS I'll hop on though, I joined one of the Comstar HPG 500+ people public teamspeaks last night and met 3 other guys and we had some fun. Had a pretty epic assault match where I was the only one left versus 3 people. I had decimated their base defenses and was slowly capping. Once our last guy went down though I started vacating to get a better position behind cover. A hunchback spotted me and I took him out with one alpha into his left chest. Popped his ammo I think.
A Raven and a badly beaten Nova were the only two left. The Raven was fresh and the big concern, but I caught the Nova with my last two racks of LRM ammo which got him to limping as he came down a ridge. He disappeared and the Raven came up behind me and started harassing. The nova was popping in and out behind some buildings so I had to focus on the Raven circling me. Ended up pulling into a U-shape of buildings and parked there so they couldn't double team me and the Raven kept wafting in and out of my line of fire to take pot shots. Well the tonnage difference really showed for every medium laser he lanced me with I returned with a double ER LRG and my own array of mediums and MGs. He made a hard turn at one point to circle around and I got him square in the back with an alpha which shut me down but blew him up.
The Nova took all this time unable to target me to hobble over behind my building. He was turning the corner as I powered up and took his remaining armor off and won. Everyone in TS was cheerin for me.
Oh and I got the Pyrrhic victory achievment heh.

So unless you have the new Radar Deprivation Module (15,000GXP, then $6Million C-bills, which by all accounts is totally worth it), which causes the enemy to lose targetting instantly when you move out of line of sight, you do have to use terrain. And with the new Clan mechs and their Streak 4's and 6's it's much more of a fight now then it was only a couple of weeks ago. That said, the Ember is still a mean beast for a light.

The RDM is THE best module, imo, next to the seismic sensor. It's very easy to avoid missiles if you can duck out of sight for a quick sec.

Is it likely to eat a nerf soon? Global xp is hard to come by without spending money. I nearly have the 15k but dont want to spend them on something that will become mediocre soon.

Who knows. I expect they will look at the data after a month or so and decide accordingly. But this is PGI. They could smoke a big fatty while playing and get pissed that their missle boat isn't killing good enough and nerf it to uselessness then day. Right now though, it seems like the king of modules for lights. And very good for every one else too.

My bet is that it will eventually be changed, but not soon. It makes pop tarting even stronger than it was before, and marginalizes missile based mechs even more. But currently it's probably the best module in the game.

Well, one way to maximize your global exp is to get a win each day with each of your mechs, for the bonus. Sometimes easier said than done, I realize, but don't overlook that. Especially now that there are like 10 freebie mechs. My only issue with them is that unless you buy them, the specific mech exp is completely wasted so... /shrug But it's an option. Also, Assists are worth more than kills, so tag every damn thing in sight with something. Using an actual TAG is even better as that gives exp as well.

Man people are horrible at walking into your line of fire. I dont recall it being so bad before but Ive racked up two team kills today alone due to dipshits walking into my wall of beamy death as Im shooting at an enemy. Best part is when they get mad at me afterwards.

The centurion AC and AL running srm's and medium lasers has been my number 1 performer since clan release. They were already amazing at spreading out damage, now against clan weapons they are even better. Running with a standard 275 engine.

You shoot the legs most of the time against a fresh mech since you can hit them no matter what facing they are at. Can 1v1 just about anything as long as you don't show them your center torso for too long.

Playing with mates makes this 100% more fun. Loving the Timber Wolf - typical loadout now is a mix of 2 ER LRG lasers, a smattering of medium and some ARTEMIS C-SRM6s. Devastating close range with a long range option while you close the gap. Coupled with 90kph move speed and 75 tons... oh it's fun.

I made a backsniping Double Gauss cannon build too. Jump jets, some mediums, and two Gauss... the idea is to get behind them. Double barrel to a mech's back always hits internals. Glorious.
With that being said I want to see more clan mechs (Mad Dog please) and more map options, or objectives that aren't solely Cap and Defend or Kill the team. I'm thinking maybe KOTH or Evacuate The President style maps.

I bought the twolf pack as well after checking it out in the mechlab. It's sooooooooooo strong. I configured the C variant to have 3 ER-LL on my nose section, 4 er smalls on the arms, and 2 lrm 10's. Absolutely crushing matches with it.

I do need to get my elo up with heavy class mechs though. The people I'm fighting are noticeably bad at the game.

I would have prefered any kind of matchmaking that pitches clans against IS (with a decent numbers and/or tonnage balance) instead of the current random affiliations. That supposedly wont work because the wait times would go through the roof. Given that I'm not sure they have enough players to let ELO make a big impact. At least that is what I've been told by friends that follow it more closely. I did spent the afternoon playing with them and it felt like you see an even split of clan and IS mechs, maybe even slightly more clans. I have to say I'm pretty bad and rusty but at least I made a few mill that'll go towards a third Cataphract eventually (which I just need to advance the pilot trees, not actually to use /boggle).

I do know when I first bought my heavy metal ~8 months ago, i was absolutely crushing kids. Averaging 600+ dmg games as a new player. Then within 2 days of play, player behavior completely changed and there were no more easy pickings. I could only attribute it to my ELO increasing. The player movement and capabilities were worlds apart.

Same sorta feel with the Heavy class Timberwolf. 450 dmg in a game is pretty low. 550+ games are the norm.

Yea the most I've chalked up is ~810 damage. It really just is a matter of positioning 90% of the time, and letting your assaults and lights take the focus fire. I avoid 1on1 fights if possible, but don't shy away from them unless they out-ton me. I'll engage say a Warhawk at 400m and pop out of LOS for 30 seconds, just chilling, waiting to either see if he chases me or switches targets. When he switches, I refocus him.

Probably the worst thing to do is be on the frontlines or get caught out of position.

Loving this game, and loving that I have 54 days of premium time from when I was a founder to burn through.
