We had a cook under contract at one FOB I was at, each guy paid 350-400 a month and we had a full working kitchen/3x meals. Make your own shit Sundays. Other than feeling like an African Plantation owner, it was great!

Ironically best food I've ate has always been Army DFACs even though I've seen probably 20+ different air force chow halls. I'm probably ranking army chow halls better because they've always been shitty assignments and food is normally the only positive thing. Just sayin'. I've only done 6 weeks of MREs. You start to tear that shit apart and make your own meals or trade for other MREs to stop the insanity. The french has some good shit.

There was some Air Force chow hall I remember that was balls to the wall NASCAR shit everywhere. Like top and bottom pictures / wallpaper. Shit food that cost like $15 a meal too, I forget where I was (had to be the south, shit blends together nowadays) because I noped out after the first day of that TDY.
Best one I had was an Air Force one in Spain. Can't remember if Moron or Rota, but I think Moron (which is odd because Moron fucking sucks).

It was fully staffed by Spanish women.

I was in Rota for a couple days I don't remember the DFAC but there was copious amounts of alcohol (pre deployment) and close proximity of all the local shit. The gate guards, at least at the time, were super fucking prick and I had to force some phone calls to even get on base. Something about dudes that aren't in theater that sport full beards in uniform that piss me off. I ate at the NCO chow hall in some training base where it was staffed by all uniformed people, super weird but good food. Only other time I've seen that is when KBR is getting shorted and filled with bodies. Even in bootcamp they just bus the illegals in.

I still have one of their towels in my pantry.. don't forget to bring a towel.

The KBR Indonesian laundry girls on Camp Taji also ran a brothel if you knew the right people. I suspect the other big bases had similar.

Did you ever get these things? To this day I have no idea why they were called Jimmy Deans.

I also had enough pop tarts, otis spunkmeyer muffins and honeybuns to last a lifetime. I haven't had a single one since.
Never encountered anything like that.

Hah brothels. No idea why anyone would go to one of those with how much fucking between service members was going on there. Guy in my unit had a supposedly got this woman in my unit pregnant. Normally Id shrug it off as bullshit rumors but the dudes NCOIC was my NCOIC state side and he told us about it. Said she ended up doing a lot of heavy martial arts training to basically force herself to miss carry.

Arguably it would be smarter to throw down $20 for the Indonesian and not deal with any of that other shit. An LT in the unit I was working with knocked up their medic. Medic went stateside almost immediately... then despite admitting to it (LT and E3 medic were a thing) they blame it on some other guy who was already in trouble for some other shit for convenience. Really hated the Office Bro club man. Shit was so rampant.

Off topic I guess but our butterbar (former E6 no less) left his M4 ontop of the humvee and it fell off somewhere on the street of Baghdad at night. Guess who got in trouble for that? The gunner because he should have, "checked his surroundings and secured equipment." Like got demoted and treated like he lost his own weapon.

There sure were some nice nudies of dumb bitches in the battalion floating around though.

most of the fobs just rotated hookers in, even in SCIFs. One time I had to explain to my boss that hes going to end up in jail if he doesn't let me take over his program.

its pretty sad, one fob i was at the previous people were definately kid fucking -- one of the reasons i got out, i don't care to be in the service if that shit gets blacked out and the people responsible just lose a rank. Should be in jail.

Went to google and firesofheaven + Air Force and didn’t really see any military threads so this was closest

Military life is salary, shitty salary but still salary none the less

You do not get paid extra for doing extra and I have managed to have it easy the majority of my career, I just need to get one more reenlistment and indefinite enlistment activates and will never have to ask to be allowed to enlist again

Have made it to my 5th unit and it is weird and the reason for my posting here

Every place I have been sent you go through training and learn how they like to do things there but this place I show up every day and they just leave me alone and I just keep practicing the little that they have introduced me to

I am talking months of nothingness and just being left alone and they still haven’t taught me anything

I finally decided to ask the female SSgt what is going on and she said “I’ve been waiting for you to ask since you’re an NCO”

That is fucking retarded and that bitch has actually cried from being under so much pressure and having the most troops under her and won’t train me until I practically beg

That was a month ago and I’ve been back to doing my own thing

The only downside to this easiness is paranoia of what the fuck is going on and how am I able to go this long with doing nothing and nothing bad has come of it

I was in the Army both reserve and active duty 89 to 95, looking back I'm glad I did it (4th generation US Army) but if I were to go back in time and tell my 18 year old self the best thing about being in the Army is someday you will get free VA healthcare, I would have said "shut up old man."

Stick it out it will be worth it in the long run.

Honestly ……if you joined after the bush era you where likely not doing anything but pulling security or gaurd watch over seas unless you where in a SOC unit

I’m not trying to be disrespectful because I enlisted during “peace time” but it’s true

Because of this I always internally cringe when people say “TFYS” but still appreciate it on some level

Friend graduated in 1989 and went into the Navy. His dad had been a submariner during the Vietnam era. My friend used to complain to no end sbout how difficult it was and I didn't understand. I'm medicaly unfit for service so whatever. One day his dad told me what he had been doing. He was a steward or whatever they call it on flights of military brass to the former Soviet Union after the wall fell. Flying in what would be a business jet in civilian life. His dad shoed me pics his son had taken in Moscow with the large winter military hats they had bought for next to nothing because anything that wasn't bolted down was being sold. He had a pic of a backpack full of rubbles, they told them to get $100 in currency to have while in country and it wouldn't fit into a backpack.

His dad gave him shit every time I saw them until the day his dad died. I know my friend told me once because of RIFs they shot at the range once a year and one time they shot .22 lr conversions in their Beretta instead of 9mm. Crazy.

I'm not sure if it was because of the Navy or because he was a coon ass that his grandfather drank himself to death, but every time I have seen my friend since he got out almost 35 years ago he has a drink in his hand. He used to come over and he would show up with a 6 pack in his hand. All the time it's crazy to me. I'm not sure if he is still alive or drank himself to death already.

Hate to break it to you, but this applies to SOC units too.

I've told many people about how we had a detainee facility on our FOB where everyone would bring the guys they brought in to interrogate before handing them over to big Army. We'd rotate guard duty among whoever was available, and I talked to several SEALs who got put on guard duty.

Usually when I tell that story though, it's more about how they would say that they'd been SEALs for years and years and hasn't gotten to do shit, and how excited they were to be in Iraq because it was the first time they got to do anything that felt like they were a SEAL.

What a bunch of fucking whiny bitches.

Try eating MRE"s every day for 6 months you faggots.

Or my deployment where we had Iraqi cooks and it was goat every single day. Had the shits for months.
That’s why you got paid the big bucks! 😅 J/k so sorry. The chow stories in the mid east can be the stuff of nightmares

We got insanely lucky with our TCNs during the halftime show. Bunch of Indians or Pakistanis and they could cook. Our chow was so awful we just told them to serve us whatever they were eating. Hindsight…..dumb…but we got so lucky. The rice and curry was awesome.

Saudi was a joke. Was more like being in prison than deployment. We got the steak and lobster birthday dinners and people bitched if you can believe it The AF Transport Squadron Commander was in charge of food and he must have made a couple deals with the devil because it never was that bad

never ever let an Egyptian/Pakistani/or Indian make you an omelette Those cooks took out half the station
