If anything I think that article significantly undercuts the fall guy theory. While I still think it's possible he's covering for Ohtani, I now think it's far more likely that he was just ripping him off for years and got bored/careless with it.

Eh, during the steroid investigations, the congress took it really seriously.

someone I was watching the other day was talking about how the feds love to “get their scalps” so the odds the conspiracy goes all the way to the federal level are slim to none

Yeah but imagine the temptation of having your millionaire bestie trust you with nearly unrestricted access to his money and no oversight?

I like to think I wouldn't be as stupid as Mizuhara was though, helps that I have a bit of an aversion to gambling.
