Nick Diaz's boxing is overrated. He's very accurate, has great cardio and has a great chin but he exposes himself too much (Maybe intentionally to bait people, who knows).

I'm willing to avatar bet someone that GSP is going to put Diaz on his ass every round they fight.

That is an intriguing bet, let's just clarify though. You are saying put him on his ass either by take downs or knockdowns I assume?

yeah I guess it doesn't matter how he gets him down. But if no one accepts that bet I'd be willing to bet that GSP takes him down every round of their fight.

Alright, I will take the original bet. I have a feeling GSP is going to totally control the pace of the fight, but I am not sure Diaz will go down in every round they fight.

Agreed on the boxing. Jozu's top 10 standup claim is ridiculous, but that's Jozu for you. There's 10-20 fighters with better standup in the UFC right now, that doesn't even count all time.

How is Diaz not one of the best strikers in MMA? Maybe top 10 of all time was going a little far but he is definitely one of the most effective stand up guys there is. He has dominated guys with nothing but straight punches and savage body shots. Im not sure GSP is a better striker.

I think GSP wont even try to take down Diaz in the first round, maybe the first couple.

He'll run the typical GSP game plan, stand for 2-3 minutes then take it to the mat, win the round

Also, some pretty good Bellator fights tonight on Spike.
I was happy, and stunned, to see Askren actually damage his opponent. Dude had been the biggest blanket in MMA for awhile, glad to see him opening up his game.

Ben Saunders fought, he's one of my favorite fighters to watch. He's just always attacking, even when he's on his back he's still the aggressor. I'd love to see him reach the win the tourney and get a title shot there.

As for Diaz striking, it's a silly argument. I don't think you can call anyone without kicks/knees in their repertoire a top 10striker, but you could make an argument for him being a top 10boxerin MMA. If he had a brain to go with it he'd be more dangerous.

Thiago Alves was a poor example of a superior striker though. His striking is pretty overrated and mostly based on a run against a bunch of wildly overmatched and/or undersized opponents. He's not a BAD striker, I just don't think he's one of the best. Though if you'd asked me in '08 when he was on that tear I'd have probably had him top 5.

I didn't expect Askren to do much damage either. Good to see him putting things together like he has.

As for my Bisping/Diaz comparison...Bisping was 31-1 or something like that as a professional kickboxer. Bisping has finished plenty of fights by TKO. Maybe Nick has better BJJ but I thought it was a pretty fair comparison on the feet. They definitely have different styles, but in the end I find it similar. Nick couldn't hack it in the UFC before and Condit beat him narrowly by decision. Sure his boxing is better than most but like I said he's not a guy that is a top 10 striker...I think that's what I said. I don't care enough to go back a page and see if that's what I said word for word though. My belief is that GSP is going to pick him apart on the feet, albeit his face might look worse at the post-fight press-conference, but post-fight vanity doesn't really matter in this sport. And don't get me wrong, I love watching Nick fight, but I personally wouldn't understand a Vegas line without Georges without being the favorite 7 out of 10 times.

It's not a bad comparison, I think. They both do a volume based boxing approach. Bisping just doesn't engage as much if he's fighting another good striker, so it really doesn'tlooklike they're doing the same thing. He doesn't have the chin or the BJJ to throw caution to the wind like Diaz does. He uses footwork more to control distance and try to stay out of danger, where Diaz is happy to wade in if the opponent is unwilling to come to him.

Ok, lets have some fun then.

Who are the top 10 strikers in MMA right now?

My list (which is probably fucked)

1. Alistair Overeem
2. Jose Aldo
3. Anderson Silva
4. Jon Jones
5. JDS
6. Nick Diaz
7. Shogun
8. Pat Barry
9. Hector Lombard (yes, I believe this)
10. John Dodson (maybe a reach here, but he is only going to get better)

I agree with some of those. Although Machida, Pettis, and Condit ought to be on the list imo. Maybe Teixeira. Probably Cung Le.

EDIT:

K here is my list.

1. A. Silva
2. L. Machida
3. J. Jones
4. A. Overeem
5. C. Condit
6. A. Pettis
7. W. Silva
8. D. Cerrone
9. C. Le
10. Nick Diaz (although I kinda agree that he is more of a boxer than an mma striker, but meh)
