Was reading reactions and stuff yesterday. Since he doesn't actually train BJJ he was basically awarded an honorary black belt by Erik Paulson so he could compete in the top divisions in BJJ competitions.

I'm not a BJJ guy but I stumbled in to reading about Keenan Cornelius from some Jack Slack article when he mentioned the "worm guard". Now, I think that shit is retarded, he basically ties up the other guy with the gi and it's obnoxious to me when the gear becomes that much a part of the fight. Whatever, beside the point.

Keenan Cornelius is awesome=P He's such an aggressive guy aside from that shit, and it was really on display against Magalheaes. Of course I could only think one thing: I hope he starts training striking heavily and comes to MMA! Kid is only 22, he's an absolute BJJ mutant. To the point I don't think he'll ever come to MMA, but I really wish he would.

Keenan used to train for MMA but stopped because he had too many concussions.

agree with you on Worm Guard.

For one its totally overhyped, lapel manipulation similar to that has always been in the Gi game. Its getting a new name for old school stuff with maybe a slight variation, but because Keenan is Keenan its become the next hot thing. One of our guys was talking to Ryan Hall and he said a lot of BJJ was cyclical and old stuff is recycled into new stuff and on and on like just about everything else.

2. Its nothing unbeatable Buchecha basically just slowed his own pass down and worked his way through it. But there are several solutions to pass it, including a roll into a Beriembolo (the last hot move) that gives you position to steal the back. Still I think even these overhyped things that come along for the sport are ultimately a good thing, the idea that there is still potential to unlock a new style, create a new untraditonal game keeps it exciting, and Keenan has always got some fresh stuff he brings to the game.

As far as the GI being used as a weapon/defense, that's just part of Gi. I started No Gi but the school I moved to is more Gi focused, I've come to enjoy it, it has its own intricacies and adds a lot of depth to grappling.

Lapel guards are hard to watch because there are no easy things to reference.

If someone is getting arm barred its easy to imagine your arm hurting.

The easiest lapel control to explain in my experience is a brabo grip from side control.

You can see the grip from :15-:25 of this video.

Aside from allowing you to hold your opponent tight to your chest, it also creates a quasi underhook on the far side while leaving your far arm open for attack opportunities. If you watch mma you know how important underhooks can be.

Worm guard does the same thing. It creates pressures at weird angles on your frame that people watching are unfamiliar with. And also if you dont experience these pressures in the gym they will be foreign and your opponent will capitalize.

The woman MMA fighter War Machine allegedly beat to a pulp says she was actually pummeled within an inch of her life.

Porn star Christy Mack says War Machine broke up with her in May but for some reason showed up at her house at 2 AM Friday. She says he walked in, didn't say a word but unleashed a beating on her friend.

War Machine threw the friend out of the house and then she says he allegedly made her strip and shower in front of him. Then she says the beating began ... resulting in 18 broken bones around her eyes, a broken nose, missing teeth, a fractured rib and ruptured liver.

Mack says War Machine also "sawed much of my hair off with [a] dull knife."

She says he threatened to rape her but was unable to perform.

Here's what she wrote. If it's true, then he's fucking nuts.

At about 2 am Friday morning, Jon Koppenhaver arrived unannounced to my home in Las Vegas, NV, after he broke up with me in May, he moved out of my house and back to San Diego. When he arrived, he found myself and one other fully clothed and unarmed in the house. Without a single word spoken, he began beating my friend; once he finished, he sent my friend away and turned his attention to me. He made me undress and shower in front of him, then dragged me out and beat my face. I have no recollection of how many times I was hit, I just know my injuries that resulted from my beating.
My injuries include 18 broken bones around me eye, my nose is broken in 2 places, I am missing teeth and several more are broken. I an unable to chew, or see out of my left eye, My speech is slurred from my swelling and lack of teeth. I have a fractured rib and a severely ruptured liver from a kick to my side. My leg is so badly injured I have not been able to walk on my own. I also attained several lesions from a knife he got from my kitchen. He pushed the knife into me in some areas such as my hand, ear, and head, He also sawed much of my hair off with this dull knife.
After some time, the knife broke off of the handle and continued to threaten me with the blade. I believe I was going to die. He has beaten me many times before, but never this badly. He took my phone and canceled all my plans for the following week to make sure no one would worry about my whereabouts. He told me he was going to rape me, but was disappointed in himself when he could not get hard. After another hit or two, he left me on the floor bleeding and shaking, holding my side from the pain of my rib. He left the room and went to the kitchen where I could hear him ruffling through my drawers.
Assuming he was finding a sharper, more stable knife to end my life, I ran out my back door, shutting it me so the dogs didn't run inside to tip him off. I hopped the fence to the golf course behind my house and ran to a neighboring house. Naked and afraid he would catch me , I kept running through the neighborhood knocking on doors. Finally, one answered and I was brought to the hospital and treated for my injuries.
I would like to thank everyone for their support through this rough time. I am healing fast and well, and I appreciate all of the praters and visits I have received over the past few days. After many months of fear and pressure to keep this man happy, although I fear for my life, I feel that I can no longer put myself in this situation. The cheating by him nearly every day, and almost weekly abuse is now more than I can stand. There is a $10k reward for the capture of Jonathan Koppenhaver at this time. Please report and information to your local police.
