IOC leaders dropped wrestling from the Olympic program on Tuesday, a surprise decision that removes one of the oldest Olympic sports from the 2020 Games.
The IOC executive board decided to retain modern pentathlon - the event considered most at risk - and remove wrestling instead from its list of 25 ''core sports.''
The IOC board acted after reviewing the 26 sports on the current Olympic program. Eliminating one sport allows the International Olympic Committee to add a new sport to the program later this year.
Wrestling, which combines freestyle and Greco-Roman events, goes back to the inaugural modern Olympics in Athens in 1896.

Well the olympics just got a lot less credible. Even if wrestling wasn't popular it's still one of the central olympic themes. It's one of the most pure example of athleticism and competition in sports.
I feel like the IOC doesn't have much respect for tradition, but views the Olympics as more of a modern event, and thus the games involved are intended to represent what has broad global appeal. Even with that in mind I think they fucked up.

The Olympics are fucking retarded. There are only a few "popular" events in each games and they dont even try to make it a secret, as they put a ton of advertisement money and effort into these most watched sports and just let the retarded sports continue to go on instead of cutting down on events and focusing more on some of the other events/sports to get them near or at the same level as say, swimming or track and field.
To remove wresting is just fucking stupid. Hopefully one day, MMA will be an Olympic sport.

Meh I don't see Big Foot doing any better the second time around. Super excited for JDS v Overeem finally though!
Kind of sucks that Werdum is tied up with TUF atm. Would rather have seen him fighting Cain. And as good as the UFC's HW division is atm, is still feels so weak when it comes to legit #1 contenders. Especially since Cormier won't be fighting his teammate. Also heard today that Barnett is going to Bellator for a King Mo'esqe type MMA-Pro Wrestling type deal. Although a fringe top 10 in today's landscape, I still very much enjoy watching him fight.

Watching Bellator from last night and early in the first round of one fight Dan Cramer gets on top and the announcer says "A lot of fighters view the term grinder as an insult, but Dan Cramer embraces it. 7 of his 9 wins have come by decision". Thanks announcer for telling me to fast forward every time this guy lands a takedown.

Cub Swanson is only 29, it feels like he's been around forever. And he has the face of a guy in his 60s. It's weird.
I'm picking Gunnar Nelson over Santiago, but that's only because Santiago seems to have some sort of mental block whenever he gets in the UFC cage. Nelson is a sub machine, but Santiago has stellar sub defense. In any other org I'd probably pick Jorge by decision, in the UFC I think he fucks up and gets subbed for the first time.
I'm picking Matt Riddle by decision over Che Mills, but I hate doing it. Riddle needs to add some fucking offense to his arsenal, shit is frustrating to watch.
Terry Etim is back! Apparently it takes about 13 months to recover from being hit with the best KO kick in MMA history. And they're giving him a guy he SHOULD be able to submit. So good for him.
Paul Sass vs. someone who is not a grinder? Sass by triangle.
Here's hoping Nedkov is legit. He belongs at 185 and that division can always use more bangers.

I was at that that fight live and it's the only time i've ever had to look away at a fight. It was bad and I was upset they let it go on for as long as it did.I think JDS will handle Overeem np via better cardio and resilience.
As for Silva vs Cain II, I wouldn't wish that on anyone, much less a decent man like Silva. I've never seen a fight where it looked like a man fighting an animal as much as that fight.
Silva is a great fighter but I don't see how he's done anything to make me think Cain won't do this to him again. If anything Cain has gotten better since that fight given that he did the same thing to a much better fighter in JDS.
