There are people that are complaining about Rhonda being a one trick Arm bar pony, but no one complained when Damian Maia was triangling the shit out of people. How many people got upset when Maia tried to box?

Ninja edit: and what about Palahares and his leg locks?

All Chuck Liddell did was throw over hand rights. Such a 1 trick pony.

She's impressive as fuck. Her technique is amazing, and it's a lot of fun to see someone grapple in an exciting way like that, man or woman.

First Rousey fight I've actually liked, really hope the UFC can find some more chicks that will actually put up a fight. When Carmouche was cranking her face I was going apeshit, hardest I've cheered for a finish since Randy tagged Sylvia.

People sucking Herb Dean's dick and Gav mentioning he's never seen him make a bad stoppage are clearly newer fans. We used to shit on Herb constantly, especially for his bad stoppages. I mentioned it on the old board but the way the man improved is really impressive to me. He's as close to perfect as you are getting in the sport right now. Probably even better than Rosenthal. But yeah, he used to fuck up early stoppages a lot, his judgment has improved drastically.

Card overall wildly exceeded my low expectations. Lower card guys really stepped up and made it exciting.

After that fight the dude cranking the leg said that he tore an opponent's hamstring with that before. Also, the guy who tapped was grabbing the back of his thigh immediately afterwards. There also might have been a bit of a twisting/sideways kneebar going on.
Makes more sense now. Still not seen the fight, but that's the first time I know of someone being submitted by hyper extending the muscle rather than a joint. As far as I know it doesn't have a name, the only techniques that attack the muscles are cranks but they work by crushing the muscle.

Cranks/slicers/crushers are not simply pain submissions and can be a lot more dangerous than commonly understood. A calf slicer can explode your knee, and your radius will break if you gut out a bicep slicer. Think of them like old-fashioned walnut crackers, but with a titanium ball bearing inside. Eventually either the hinge will break (joint) or the levers will break (bones).

Looks like Aldo is trying to refuse to fight Pettis, and Dana is threatening him if he doesn't take it

As for my comment about Rousey being a one trick pony. I wasn't complaining about it, simply stating that I hope she continues to evolve her game. No fighter is going to remain undefeated forever by only going for one move all the time. Don't get my wrong, I actually like watching her seeing if she can pull it off each time. I just really hope she continues working on her striking game as well.

Also is just trying to get Anderson Silva money.

And I don't see any hate for Rousey on anything, much less her world class grappling. All I see are questions of "What happens when she fights a woman who can shrug off her takedowns and force her to box?".

Unfortunately, the talent pool for females is pretty shallow, so she may be 50 before we find out. It isn't like male one trick ponies where you can eventually find a matchup against a guy who is the ultimate counter to their one trick.

I love me some Ronda and they can show her hitting pads all they want but her standup has looked really uneasy so far, even though she's only rushing to the clinch.

Worries that my girl will get punched.

Yeah I definitely agree with you. It's possible that Rousey will never fight a female Chuck Liddel. Though I think Cyborg would beat her if she could make that weight, but I doubt the UFC will ever let Cyborg into the UFC.

Pretty sure you have to be female to fight in the female division.

Exactly. There's a huge double standard between women and men with steroid abuse but I can't say I disagree with it.

Overeem turning into ubereem is just more acceptable than goign from

She still does look like a man lol.

Anyway, Dana responded to all of the nerdrage about Fitch getting cut. This was after he said Fitch was on the "downside" of his career.

"People want to see you when you're exciting," White said. "It would be nice if you could just go lay on a guy for three rounds and people want to buy your pay-per-views. Welcome to the real world, guys. That's not how it works."

Dana has been really arrogant and on a high horse lately. But fuck it, he has done a great job for the UFC. Making a womens division, and having a true star to carry, was mana from heaven for the UFC. They just gained all kinds of media attention from new outlets, as well as gained a large number of new fans who are female. Its just another "statue" for the UFC to appreciate in the pantheon of their history. The first being the no rules UFC with Royce Gracie, then the transition and Forrest Griffin etc, followed by Liddell, which was huge for them, then Lesnar/Machida, and now Jon Jones and more recently Rousey/Womens MMA.

Dana has been really arrogant and on a high horse for the last 6 years

Actually I think DFW has calmed down a bunch in the last year or two. Maybe since the Fox News deal, or maybe since his health problems. Either way he's running a business and most of the contentious decisions the UFC has made have been either favoring good business (Canning great but boring fighters) or trying new shit (TUF live). The UFC has to tread a fine line between martial arts and sports entertainment but it's been treading that line for years.
