I hate Struve so much. Seven feet tall and STILL thinks dropping his hands, leaning his head back, and moving in a straight line backwards constitutes striking defense. Also claiming before every fight that he's actually putting on mass and getting stronger, I think for this one he even claimed he was having to cut to 265 because he was so jacked, and he always ends up looking soft.

Stann v Silva was shocking; I did not at all expect Stann to get in firefight after firefight with Silva, it's impressive that both of them managed to even make it out of the first round the way that fight was going.

I can't say I've been a fan of Stann, mainly because of how hard the UFC tried to push that he was in the army. But it looks like, he's trying to fight for the fans and to be entertaining. Can't hate on that.

He's a fucking Marine. He was not in the "army". I know I'm going to get shit for this but whatever.

Hunt makes me so happy. He is on a 4 fight win streak walk off KO of ranked opponent, had good submission defense and offense on the ground, and he looked in amazing shape and cardio seemed vastly improved from Rothwell fight.

I think amazing shape is being a bit too generous.

I will echo props to Stann, he didn't have to come out and throw windmill punches with Wanderlei. It is quite possible to win that way (see Leben), but there are far safer ways to beat Wandy. Instead, Stann saw that he was up against Wanderlei Fucking Silva in Japan, and he said "Fuck this, these guys want a brawl!". Awful gameplan, but I praise him for giving the fans what they wanted (at his own expense), I hope Dana gave him a lot extra for deciding to come out and war.
This is what I was getting at. Everyone knows that trying to brawl vs Wandy is playing his game but Brian Stann wants to be a brawler too so he decided to man up and do the opposite of what a Greg Jackson fighter would have done.

Eh I don't really agree. In the second round Stann didn't try to brawl with Silva and tried to outstrike him (Which he did in groin strikes!) but Silva was too fast and too accurate for Stann. You could argue that he would've done better in the second if he didn't get so beaten up in the first but who knows.
Yeah he didn't go balls out in the second round but I that could very well have been due to game-planning for the 5 round scenario.

Not sure how much better Hunt's cardio really is. That Rothwell fight was in Denver, there's a reason after that they didn't have any HW fights on the next card there. Big fat guys can't handle the altitude.

Much as I love HW fights I like them less the longer they last formostfighters. Watch these other guys then watch Cain, think about how huge an advantage he has when a fight goes past the 2nd round. There's not another top 10-15 guy that he won't run in to the ground if the fight goes long.

Also maybe I'm being pretentious but the Stann/Silva fight being a main event makes me feel like we're still in the dark ages of MMA. Two guys with no chins wildly swinging haymakers at each other. I still love seeing W. Silva win though.

Thank you, Grimm. Those last two fights were so much more appealing than the previous ones I was watching with prolonged anticipation. The notion that MMA is still in it's dark days could be believable after watching the snorefest that was UFC On Fuel TV 8 in some circles but that got me fired up. I thought the last two fights delivered just as they should. Maybe Wanderlei in a firefight isn't what some folks expect anymore, but holy fuck if it wasn't needed. Silva vs. Stann wasn't Kimbo vs. Tank in no means and I kind of feel like that kind of comparison was unmerited. Would Pat Barry vs. Mark Hunt as a co-main draw the same response? I doubt it. A fire-fight every once in a while is needed even if that means one fighter chooses to make things a little more exciting than going with some wrestle-rape agenda. I wish more fights shared a similar comparability as Silva vs. Stann, but I honestly don't see fights like that instigating the same kind of shit that turns certain fans off just because it was more aggressive than anything else witnessed on Saturday night.
