Edgar for a bangout is cool. He's got some slick boxing and a win adds some big name legacy value to Conor's resume.

People are going to be unsatisfied with him fighting anything besides a super monster like Khabib though and claim Edgar is worthless.
“Let me tell you about Conor McGregor,” Abdel-Aziz said. “He’s like a prostitute, used to make high-dollar money, but she got old and nobody wanted her anymore. This f*cking guy. For three years, he did everything he can not to fight Frankie Edgar.

“He had so many opportunities. Now he wants to fight Frankie? That’s funny.”

Mark Henry, Edgar’s striking coach, also blasted McGregor in an Instagram post, acknowledging the “The Notorious” as a great fighter, but basically telling him to keep Edgar’s name out of his mouth, because of the class individual and fighter Edgar has been for years. Henry said Abdel-Aziz asked about fighting McGregor when Holloway went down, but the UFC said it wouldn’t be possible.

“You will NEVER EVER have the heart of Frankie or integrity,” Henry said. “It’s soo soo simple if your dog crap post is true fight Frankie next. Weather it be mma or boxing. ( And I promise you he won’t hammer fist on top your head he knows the rules). But YOU WON’T!”

Dana clarified his statements, Conor is getting stripped and Khabib and Tony will be for the belt
Conor gets winner.......
also said Conor was looking to come back in August but now Sept

another report, UFC working for 2 Conor fights in 2018

and Conor says he wanted to fight Edgar after Max pulled out, but ufc declined due to not enough time to hype it up
(was only like 30 days)

=

any idea why no update to UFC rankings this week?

Dana was being really coy in that video though. When asked point blank "So Conor is getting stripped?" he would only reply "Khabib vs Tony is for the real belt" or something like that.

Probably setting up the "he never lost the belt" storyline for the winner vs Conor fight

This is all leveraging negotiations.

Only 30 days to hype up Conor's return to the Octagon? Of course that's plenty of time. The fight sells itself. It's telling that he thinks he can make 145 right now. UFC denying him the fight will come back in talks later, shame on them. Conor winning that fight would've put him in line for Max whenever that fight made sense and a true two belt reign (or divisional hopping to duck Khabib and figure out that wrestling). Conor's great at 155, but Max and Conor would be a fantastic fight. Fuck the UFC for taking this fight away from us, Edgar-Conor would've been fun and gets the dude back in the Octagon.

Of course Khabib and Tony is for "the belt." If that fight even happens. From a marking angle, the question is how (or if) they'll officially strip him.

Conor's smart to not take on Khabib and Tony back to back, this is all just angling. He'll fight Khabib this year (if the guy proves he can make weight), then Tony next year but there will be an easier fight in between the two, maybe we get the Mayweather Circus 2.0, or he does that crazy thing to be #1 contender @ 145 or even fight Max for the belt.

It's all contingent on the guy knocking dudes out and winning, though and in a fight anything can happen.

To me that seems like a fight that he (McGregor) could win. Edgar being a former champ it'd be easy to pump up but with the kind of star power McGregor has, I don't see them doing that in 30 days. That's also probably why it's so hard to book him for anything. Who wants to promote some shit for 2.5 months for a fighter the average person doesn't even know? The average person ain't gonna know, Tony, Khabib, or anyone for that matter. So Conor has a lot of work to do for the company just on his own in regards to that and whoever he fights in the future.

Some highlight moments happening tonight. Didn't expect to see OSP get Machida'd.

Yep damn sure didn't see OSP getting taken out like that. Pretty much had my mind made up that Mike Perry was boring the last time he fought and tonight solidified it.

interesting armchair refing
got groups saying just throwing the knee, no contact at all, should had been enough to stop the fight with a warning
others saying it connected on the way down with mostly the shin, but that should count still as illegal knee

dunno, i didn't think it landed and hope doesn't get over turned

Frame by frame. And I mean frame, by, frame. Looks legit, whether it landed or not doesn't seem relevant.

There is a 0.0001 second on the knees alleged impact moment where his hands are shooting for a takedown during the knee. We are talking fractions of a second. That is some damn good reffing. i'm impressed. HOWEVER, the fight was over when he was knocked out before he took those hellbows shots against the cage. So its a mixed bag. Good call on the knee, bad call on the lack of TKO against the cage pre-hellbow. He was out and Dan hesitated to call it during those hellbows. That is likely where he received the most damage to his bones and possibly the fractures. He offered no defense because he was TKO'd already.

I think Herb would have caught that TKO and called it.

I didn't see the fight and still haven't watched the highlights so I have nothing to contribute to the current convo but I did come across this today while browsing.

Dana White And Brock Lesnar Are Hanging Out, No Big Deal

Also got a good lol out of this one:

Bookies Lay Odds On Jon Jones Getting Arrested

post-USADA testing phase Brock. Looks like if Jones gets off suspension we might immediately go into a Lesnar fight. Although I don't see why Brock would go straight to Jones without a warmup I think he's too old and loathes the testing process too much to take any other fight. Its going to be Jones, 100%. Brock isn't going to do another 1-2 years of USADA program to fight some bums in the HW division as much as I would like to see him fight Bubba Lewis and a few other Heavies. The UFC needs the money fight. Too many factors for the Jones-Lesnar to be made without delay.
