I've pre-purchased the 3DS version as I don't have a Wii U. This series is fantastic. Give it a shot.

Own a 3ds? The EXACT same game is getting simultaneously released on the 3ds. Only thing it lacks is an infrastructure for online play; With that in mind, find RL friends to play the game with. Group hunts are epic drinking games, imho.

they are releasing a patch in april to turn on Gamepad play...
loved tri. never finished it but it was good
graphics for TRI-U is better.
though i agree,, do more games- MH4 is coming.

MH4 is 3DS only, currently. Plus it has not been announced for US yet.
The gamepad patch will be amazing. Basically you can play it like a bigger 3DS(without the 3D) and I would assume you could change the input on the tv to watch other things as the same time.
Many Gamestops are having a midnight release for Gears of War.. which happens to be the same night as the MH3U release! So go get your games at midnight!

There are always a ton of deals on the 3DS XL. If you ever do decide to take the plunge, make sure you get the CCP which has to be imported for the XL. It will make the camera much easier to control.
On that note, I bought a Wii U just for MH3U. I did try out Nintendoland and local multiplayer on Zombiu, but this will mainly just be for Monster Hunter.

Fire Emblem: Awakening is without a doubt an amazingly good game. Pokemon X/Y will obviously be good(but still Pokemon). There's a few gaming sites already calling the 3ds the console of the year just because of the games coming out.
It depends on the type of game you're looking for I think. But overall, the 3ds has a crazy solid lineup.

Looking at the list on the Nintendo website, I see Fire Emblem, Kid Icarus(did that happen to be any good though?), Tales of the Abyss remake, Shinobi(new one? old one?), Cave Story 3D(heard good things about that) and Etrian Oddysey 4. And Pokemon but I'm not into Pokemon at all so don't really care. That seems very light still and half of these seem like remakes/ports so probably not even worth it either. Fire emblem and potentially Etrian Oddyssey are the 2 that stand out, and MHU I guess now, but still. A bit too early for me to spend almost 200euros on a console I think.
Fire Emblem Awakening and Etrian Odyssey 4 are amazing, basically spent the entire last 2 months playing them. Tons of replay.
Wii U has true online play (friends lists, etc), no friend code bullshit like the Wii.
In the past, it was more about Nintendo being resistant to allowing kids be exposed to the bad things about unrestricted online play. That was/is their main demographic. I haven't played recently but the last CoD I played on 360 was pretty much a 24/7 racist and gay slur festival.

Call of Duty definitely has that demographic. Any competitive game (LoL, SC, et al) online will have a huuuge amount of complete D-bags who like to toss out the racial/sexual slurs almost constantly, with "Fuck this!" and "Bullshit. BULLSHIT." repeated over and over in between with voice chat enabled. MH series isn't really known for it's competitive gameplay since I believe all the missions are effectively cooperative. Either way, odds are you wouldn't hear -nearly- as much profanity minus people exclaiming "shit!" when they get bowled over by something they haven't fought before. Compared to CoD, at least! Didn't know WiiU actually had real network infrastructure, I take back the "sort of" from my previous post~

Ah yes there's the older Zelda and a Castlevania too, didn't see that in the list I checked for some reason. I guess it might be worth buying maybe. I'll wait a bit and check reviews/videos of the 3DS version first though, see if there's any framerate issue or whatever else.

I'm gonna start offline for a couple days, but around Thursday night I'll be doing hunts from 8-2am EST. Not necessarily the whole time but that will be the normal time for me. I'll add you later tonight when I start prepping for release.

I picked up the wiiu version and 3ds version. Amazon is running a deal you buy both you get 20 dollars off the order basically making the 3ds version 20 bucks. I'd like to join you guys on online but I have never played a monster hunter game before. Any big things to know before going into this game?
