Pretty sure elem ammo is a noob trap, shit looks terrible. The main issue is you can't use a single skill to boost the damage like you can with normal/pierce/spread, and then you also need 2pc rath to get elem crit. And it's not even better than lvl 3 ammo on a weak to ele monster in that regard, as far as I can quickly see. Plus elem in this game is weird in general, basically it adds a flat amount of damage instead of scaling, so the faster you attack with elem, the better and vice versa. And HBG aren't really the fastest weapons obviously.

Not sure what the rest of your gear looks like but I can do Xeno in I think 12mins solo with pierce in my quickly made gear. I wasn't even close to out of ammo and my legiana rifle wasn't fully upgraded because it was before I got the legiana gem.

It is a trash fight however, I only did it a few times to get enough veils to do shit, I was lucky to get a gem on my first kill and I've only ever needed that one for... handicraft charm I think it was? Forgot, but I don't want to farm this guy anymore it just sucks takes way too long and is boring.

Yeah and you can craft a better version with bagel52 items and they stack, so it's basically 4 slots less in your tiny ass inventory. But eh you gotta do what you gotta do for them stats.

It has similar capacity yes but godawful reload and recoil on them. That's a big thing about damage output, recoil is the delay between the shots and reload is obviously the reload time. Anything above 2 in recoil is bad basically unless it's cluster/wyvern which obviously won't be good(and even cluster you can reduce 2 to fast recoil, 3 is unaffected by recoil mods). Reload over normal is the animation where you have to kneel to reload, while normal lets you reload faster while still moving(good so you don't get fucked/don't need to look for time to reload too much).

Mind you, your issue might be more with the rest of the gear, you do want good offensive stats to make the shots worth it. Weakness exploit 3 is pretty big, so is atk(especially 4+ since you get a free 5%crit). Also as I said one advantage standard ammo has is the ability to get a skill that basically gives 10% more damage, like piercing shots, spread/power shots and such. Finally not sure if you noticed that but there's an optimal range for weapons. When your reticle has 2 circles, you do a lot more damage. Depending on the ammo type, this range differs. For pierce it's medium to long but for spread it's close range only for example, so you need to be at the right range. I don't know what's the range on elemental shots though. Finally damage mods on the gun, you want range x3 for Xeno I think if you use pierce range, close x3 if you use close range like spread. You can get 1 guard too if you want, can be helpful. Generally you don't want to use reload/recoil ones, because you want to use the right gun instead.

I keep getting streamstones on Kushala when I'm doing it with Cluster HBG, and they're all fucking gun streamstones. It's like the game knows I'm cheesing so it's only giving me shit I don't need to upgrade stuff I don't like.

I did augment one of my lances at least, and I have the mats to augment an insect glaive if I ever decide to do it, but feel I want more gems first in case of.
