Charge Blade requires you to get at least your shield charged for max DPS, and you sword too if you can manage it, for the natural Mind's Eye (no bouncing attacks). Doing this takes up a lot of time where I find my self either missing the monsters with the attack combo that actually charges your phials, or locked into animations I don't want to be as the faster monsters move.

I also end up missing with a significant number of my SAED combos, again because the faster monsters move out of the way by the time I'm at the end of the combo.

Charge Blade is a great weapon, with a very high skill cap. I enjoyed it, but I was just getting a little annoyed by the time spent charging up. With the Switch Axe, I can pretty much always be attacking.
Yeah that matches my experience with the charge blade. On some fights ex: Vaal Hazak, I can pretty much just go ham and get an SAED off every few seconds and deal tremendous damage. But I wonder if I had a different weapon with less setup time if my DPS wouldn't be much higher.

My plan has always been to try out the Bow weapon, but I'm hoping to put that off until MHW is updated with better mouse controls. (ex: raw input).

Another thing that I had trouble with was hitting things above me consistently. Especially when trying to sever tails on monsters that keep them up higher. The Switch Axe seems to have better options for vertical swings in my opinion.

I love the Elemental Discharge on the SA, where you grapple onto the monster and plunge your blade in it doing small hits until a final explosion. It's less of an all or nothing attack than CBs SAED. If you miss or get knocked off, you don't lose your full charge like you do if you misplace you SAED shot.

I've gotten the bow to a fairly comfortable spot by bumping up the sensitivity all around to 60-65ish and disabling all of the focus and auto aim settings. But the absolute worst thing about the bow is that garbage reticle lock 'feature' that kicks in whenever you shoot-then-dodge while aiming, or when firing alternating rain/spread shots. You basically have to spin your aim around like a madman to cancel the lock before your next shot, or else you just miss wildly if either you or the target moved at all. It's some basic bitch controller aim assistance shit for people that never learned how to circle strafe in the Goldeneye days, and it can't be disabled.

Other than that, the game is incredible.

EDIT: The reticle lock is also probably responsible for this happening occasionally (spread shot wildly veers off to the side);

Hoping PC modders can fix all the little problems that Capcom hasn't.

Charge blade is actually pretty good at that, the 2nd I think attack in triangle combo is vertical, the charge circle can hit decently high, and the axe form switch with R2+triangle is a vertical high damage slice that shit does like 150damage in a huge arc since it's axe form.

Mind you I don't really play charge blade much anymore either. Mostly now I play long sword, I like the reach it has and the combos and stuff are simple and easy, while having a nice counter attack and some nice burst damage. And if you fuck up your burst hit, no big deal you don't lose much(even if you hit then miss with the jumping attack, only downgrades one tier). Also don't need funky stats like focus or artillery, which lets me focus on raw damage more. I play that, lance and sometimes a bit of IG, and HBG for kushala. Lance is great but I wish I could get a guard up jewel so I don't die if I start a counter right when teostra starts his supernova because there's no time to cancel+sheath+dodge/flash. Earlier I got lucky and hit him in the face with the charged counter while he was casting and it interupted, but most of the time it's just a free death if I let him cast supernova and I'm not in a neutral state when it happens.

I made a full bow set and turns out I hate it, so that was some wasted mats. Not too many luckily(lightning bow, black diablos legs and constitution charm) but still. Maybe I'd like it more with a mouse but I can't be bothered relearning the game with a keyboard, and with a pad it feels clunky as fuck.

The heal aug with an SnS is monstrous, it's damage based or charge moves make it stronger. It's the difference in having to use potions or just ignoring even 1/2 your life missing and healing it back up quick.

What sort of SnS builds are you running?

Ummm. I'm running out of tempered investigations. How do you get more?
You can get some in expeditions, look for blue tracks, there's maps/video guides that show where they are for T2 and elder dragons(they always spawn in the same spots). Generally just fighting more will give you some though, breaking parts, finishing a hunt and obviously finding tracks during the hunt proc additional investigations. I generally get 1 per investigation(as in the 3 kills) I do, quite often 2, so I'm nowhere close to running out and can weed out the 2reward boxes ones. I guess bad RNG at the start might make you run out but at some point you'll have enough in stock that you can't really run out anymore.

I just wish it wasn't just fucking kushala and teostra still. I'm nearing 40kushala kills and 30teostra kills and I have less than 20 of the other 3 COMBINED. I got my first 4 reward boxes for another elder at least today, vaal hazak one, I like this one it's free rewards and I need some fangs.

I read that investigations you get from breaking parts are always non tempered, and you only get tempered ones from tracks. Is that fake news?

My strat has been to join sos flares and if i run my own investigations, follow elder dragons around, picking up their tracks.

New thumbnails for some of my older videos, redoing stuff to make it all uniform and look less mspaint'ish.

Also, a Furai Meme for you all just cause I'm 3 reddit trolls away from fucking grabbing a bow:

It was true back then but at some point they unfucked it in a patch so now when you break something on a tempered mob, it gives more tempered investigations which makes sense. That's why you don't really have to farm tracks anymore, it was a stupid concept anyway. I haven't had to farm them since I got started getting 3 investigations off tempered Kirin for the HR49 quest and I have like 6 atm and a bunch I don't have active cause they're 2box kushala/teostra. Only time I end up joining SOS tempered is when I feel like doing Nergigante since this fucker never drops for me. Then it's like earlier and it's 3 archers and Nergi is just leaping from one side to the map to the other and I'm there trying to hit it more than once before it jumps again, feelsgoodman.

I made a Switch axe to check it out a bit since it was discussed earlier, I like the damage stuff but the movement is fucking terrible on that weapon. Have to constantly sheathe to move around to hit stuff, which is fine when it's like greatsword where you just whip out your big sword once you're done and slam the fucking monster real hard, but switch axe is all about chaining a bunch of moves together so fighting shit like Diablos who charges around constantly is a huge pain in the ass. Also I really dislike how I can climb on Diablos to shoot him in the face, but somehow if he starts a charge, I get hit by the charge even though I'm ON him. Like how. I got in some frenzy combo shit on a downed tempered rathian+legiana for the event thing though and it was pretty cool, I like how it chains from axe to sword and back.

Made a hunting horn too to do a couple of quests, went alright. Damage isn't terrible but it's not great either and moveset is kinda boring, also same issue as switch axe, you can't use any sort of gap closing move, but at least you run kinda fast with the speed buff you get from songs. I thought I'd get more KOs though, I keep hitting stuff in the head but they don't drop. Does break horns really quickly though so that's nice.

The change to tempered quests being given from breaks made this game 1000x better.

Now if only they would boost Piercing and elemental so 95% of weapons aren't trash.

It's a fairly shitty system they have for coop during the story. Basically they didn't want to go with the mmo-like thing where you have people watching cutscenes just standing there invulnerable while other people are fighting next to them or whatever, so instead you have to start every story mission solo, do all the cutscene stuff and once you're at the monster, it'll say "You can send a SOS now" or some crap, at that point, one person sends a SOS, everyone else leaves their own game and join the SOS game and you can fight the monster together. It's not as much of an issue on PC because loadings are super fast but on PS4/Xbox where it takes like a minute to go out then back in, it's probably pretty fucking tedious to do. I mean it's still tedious on PC but not as bad.

Once you're done with the story though it works fine.

I've found evade extender 3 almost mandatory for SA. I can get away with 2 sometimes but 3 just feels best. The side hopes in SA are one of its best tools, especially with evade window. I got pretty good with SA, then I realized I was doing it all wrong and got much better. Basically I learned I was doing 3 things wrong.

1. Using phial discharge too much. Like you said, it makes no fucking sense when you get knocked off when latched on with discharge. I've had times when I've stayed on during a charge, and times I get knocked off. Very frustrating. I now only use this when I know for sure it will go all the way through, and usually only if I'm nearing the end of my charge up.

2. Using animation locking moves instead of smaller move that don't lock me in animation. Once I learned of the big hit from the moveset where you swing axe with circle and press R2 to go into sword, the big damaging hit, I used it way to much. It's such an animation lock. Also tying into this is using the little SA hops to reposition and iframe smaller quick hits so you can keep damage up constantly. Sheathing should be very rare on a good run, maybe only doing it 2-3 times.

3. Learned to balance my charge and my phial. Getting the most out your phial is where SA really shines. Power Phials and Power Element to lesser degree are insane. Giving about 15-20% extra damage per hit. You want to be hitting as much as possible in sword. Usually I'll hit a couple times with a triangle swing then go right back into axe for added mobility to reposition and go right back into sword for added triangle swings and back and forth. If I'm out of charge I'll use the circle sword swing to build it but don't end it with the animation lock second circle move unless you know 100% you won't get knocked down. It's much better to do a circle swing right into an axe switch and reposition with the little hops to keep going.

Yeah all about max vial so your normal hits do extra damage, the discharge is good for a knockdown etc but shouldn't be in your rotation. Tuco Tuco Korrupt Korrupt Evernothing Evernothing Brahma Brahma I got enough to switch to nerg hunting horn so going to build that and see what else I need for the armor(likely Vhaal armor but not sure yet, mix of diablo for tremor resist might be way to go early) What this means for you guys is I can give earplugs and attack up large.

For me the big impediment to playing with buddies is that the game scales the difficulty of the mobs the same for 2,3 or 4 players. So if you've got one buddy to play with, and you're both about the same skill level, the two of you together will probably do worse than each of you would do soloing. Me and a buddy were trying to take out Nergigante for the first time, and after failing a few times we just split up and beat it.

On the flip side, in a four man group the game is fun but if all four players are playing reasonably well it's more of monster-smash than anything else. Everyone can afford to play somewhat defensively when they're targeted by the mob, while everyone else goes ham blowing it up. This causes it to stagger a lot, which makes it even easier.

In a lot of ways I think a 2man team would be more engaging than a 4man. I'm not sure why they don't scale it differently between 2 vs 4 man groups.
