Well that was invigorating. I took a stupid 20 minute Hunt Palumu investigation quest to complete a bounty. Not only does that faggot fly across the ENTIRE map every time he runs away. A Tzatziki hung around and continuously blinded me for like 5 minutes.

I had like 30 seconds left to finish the stupid quest when I killed him. It was pretty much bullshit though.
Make some flash slinger ammo and some dung ammo. Can flash to pop mobs out of the air and dung will make things run away.

I did Anjanath, Rathalos, Barroth, Paulmu, Rodamo (spike ball guy) in the Special Arena this morning. I think that shit is designed for some group fun because it is basically impossible to load the cannon and hit a monster with it... because boy did I try. I did hit Rodamo with a ton of Ballista shots though.

It would be satisfying to have one dude distract it in the pit while 3 others load cannons and fuck his shit up though. The spike thing was awesome though. Otherwise I just beat the shit out of it like I normally would.

I used the flash pod ammo and shot it his face but it seemed to detonate behind him and do nothing. Do you have to just distance it right so it blows up in his face?

I had the same problem when I started using them. Now I just aim at the ground or some object a ways in from of them. The flash effect has a decent range.

Ah TY sir. I remain astounded at how much depth of item usage this game has.

Is there any way to force a particular investigation? I need some Tobi-kadachi parts but that fucker is a rare spawn if you don't have an investigation, and of course I have none for it.

Or at least a way to cycle ancient forest quickly so that one spawns ..?

Not sure how you feel about group play, but you can always search SOSs for that specific boss. Should be plenty of them up at all times (at least now).

It's not even worth using anything other than the rock drop / draganator tbh. In the time it takes to load and move and fire the cannons I can do similar damage with my hammer even if I land all 5 shots. It's more for the novelty than anything else unless there are elder dragon fights down that unlock later.

Finished Rotten Vale last night and all optional/side quests up to this point at around 27 hours. Really digging how progress is unlocking all these quality of life items for crafting and gathering materials. My storage chest is overflowing with goodies and I haven't had to do any dedicated farming.

So I see a lot of bow players (I think I'm settling on this as a primary). So are people upgrading bows (or any weapon quite frankly) of each element type as they go, or are they settling on 1 or 2 that they use for all content. I love the game and the grind overall is fine, but keeping up 4-5 bows doesn't sound appealing in the long run.

It isn't too bad to keep up a variety as the different types don't have too much overlap. This goes for any weapon.

As Malinatar said, SOS then just tag the mob you want to fight.

However, I do think that doing certain things triggers specific investigations. I did an explore of the ancient forest and just ran around gathering and picking up trails. Repeatedly did a lot of similar things. At the end I had around 30+ of "kill 20 wasps" investigation missions and 20 of the "hunt a great jargas".

That said, I have looked and can't find a list yet that says which actions triggers what. I do think that investigating a Anjanath mucus for instance triggers an investigation mission of the wasps.

In terms of Tobi, I have only ever seen him in the main mission for story progression so far, and from his drops when googling him, it looks like most are + drops. So maybe you don't get investigation missions for him until the High Rank hunts?

I've noticed that too. The duplication of Investigations based on whatever. I have a ton of duplicate stuff. I've never seen Tobo Kadachi outside of the story mission nor the Pukei Pukei.

But you can just SOS search for that particular monster? Good to know.

Elemental damage is not great. First off, the number you see is inflated 10x, and even 3-star vulnerable monsters to that element only take a fraction of the damage in certain hit locations. On the flipside, you don't have to worry about an element reducing your damage; the worst that can happen is that it is immune to the element and even then you'll still do full raw damage.

Basically, only use elemental when the raw damage is the same or maybe one tier lower. Like early on, Pulsar II is a great bow because it does the same raw damage as the best bone version you can make at the same point, and it also does elemental damage and can use power coatings which the bone bow cannot. The second dragon bow is worth using against 3-star dragon monsters too, possibly the first one too but I haven't tested that.

And yeah, I know about SOS, but I've got plumbers at my house trying to find a broken sewer pipe and have to afk at a moment's notice sometimes. I have actually seen kadachi investigations, but they've all been either 15 minute time limit (when it can take 5-10 minutes just to find the fucker if you don't start with any scoutflies) or multi-monster hunts.

Purposely not watching that end game content video because the lack of reading I've done on this game has made for some amazing surprises.

For investigations I think if you pickup kadachi tracks it will open investigations for that. Obviously you need to have him on the map for the tracks, but generally I feel he always spawns in the ancient forest explorations.

Got up to the Nergigante fight in High Rank but farming a high rank set before I take him on. I really applaud Capcom for adding so much, but keeping the core gameplay in tact.

Video doesn't go crazy spoiler. Just details some high end crafting that can be done and some of the things that unlock fight wise at higher hunter ranks. Also ha d him dying while trying to sharpen a weapon due to the paralyze mosquitoes. I can relate to that because I died while trying to tranq HR Odogaron because one of those stupid fucking birds in rotten vale flew down and hit me during the 2nd tranq.

Never played MH games and I don't have a lot of playtime so I'd probably be solo 100% of the time. Any worth in me buying this? I play maybe 3-4 hours a week if I'm lucky. I work 3 jobs, go to school, and spend another 8 hours in the gym a week while living on my own so my free time is... basically nonexistent. I'm just getting around to finishing Witcher 3, for reference.

You can solo the whole game - the story quests that are the first part of the game are all meant to be soloed. A lot of people do that. I find the most fun doing the hunts in a party but not required.
