Discusses some of the lore of the game, like why there is no longer separate armor for blademasters and gunners. It also discusses some of the new mission types.

Looks like the client for this is the same as the previous beta, so I doubt there will be any new content.

Beta is live again on PS4, anyone can download don't need PS+. Only a 5.67 gig download so not too bad

I finished the first mission and I dunno, maybe this game isn't for me. I really don't like the mission timer and i have no clue wtf is going on in combat, I am just mashing R2 and the monster lays down to nap a bit and then gets up again over and over. I can't even tell how much HP it has left. I am not sure how to use items and the screen keeps flashing me all these fucking squiggly lines and shit as suggested moves I guess but I have no idea what the fuck these hieroglyphs are supposed to mean, sometimes it goes pink when I hit R2 or triangle. I tried going into the arena mode from the main menu and that was an even bigger clusterfuck.

I guess I could go look up intro videos and stuff but just seems simpler to shrug and say "ehh, this game is way too japanese for me" and move on. I also am not a huge fan of wandering up to a big ol creature that is just minding its own business and then beating the shit out of it and following it to its home to whale on it some more, maybe if it was attacking some hot anime chick or something I'd be more into it. Also my only pal is a fucking cat, where's my hunting dog

Not sure if serious.

Welcome to the series, most of what you said is the norm for Monster Hunter and what many of us veterans love about it. The mission timer in the real game will most likely be 50 mins, not 20. Monster HP will also be increased but there is never a health bar. There are signs that the monster is hurt such as limping/sleeping/eating. There is a place to train your moves and to learn your weapon abilities, but if you're really wanting to understand your weapon I'd take 10 mins to watch a YT video for it. Granted some weapons are harder to understand the nuances than others.

The joy of this game is that you earn everything. Nothing is handed to you. You can't cheat your way through the game and even if you get carried you have to be present to carve the monster in the end. Earning the items to make stronger gear is satisfying. The game is best played with friends or at least online, the community has always been great, though that may change with MHW and its introduction to the asshole masses. This is a HUNTING game, not Weeb Mario saving big ol titty stripper Peach from the angry shifty-eyed monster.

Ya the timer only being 20min's is a beta thing, actual mission timer is 50mins(some are shorter though, usually just resource picking, or repelling an elder dragon away from a city)

Go into the training/dummy zone off the hub area, and toy around with weapons till you get the hang of there combos/distance coverage if you've never played stick with simpler weapons, Longsword/Great sword/Dual Blades/Sword and Shield are all great beginner weapons.

I'll probably be going insect glaive, charge blade now that the CB's actual movement set is back(fuck you generations team) and heavy bow gun.

The most important thing for Monster Hunter, from what I've learned, is to find a weapon that you like.

Open up the training, try the first weapon. Mash your buttons, combos will appear in the top right. After 5 minutes dicking around with it, go to the chest in the training mode and try the next weapon. There's 14 to try, so finding one you love is key. Once you find one you think is fun, look up a youtube video on it for the key combos. By the sounds of it, the first weapon you tried was the Charge Blade which is one of the hardest weapons in the game to pick up and learn.

As others said, 50 minutes is the time limit when we're out of beta, and items you pick up/harvest will actually matter for crafting items, healing, ammo and weapons/armor. The main game has a storyline, so you'll be introduced to WHY you're hunting these animals. Optionally, play a few rounds with the Failure Brigade and we'll show you the ropes. Not that I'm an expert by any means - I was as green as you before the first Monster Hunter World beta.

50 mins x Hunt is a damn good time frame to knock out a few on also to knock back a few on a Weeknight/weekend and have a good time.

That's pretty damn late but eh, better they take their time than release some fuckfest that needs to be patched by some random internet hero to function correctly like many PC ports. I'll just wait, not in a big hurry anyway, still have a stupidly long backlog of shit to play, dozens of which are 70+hours rpgs.

I've got pretty good faith. The PC port of Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen was top notch if I recall.
