I like that there are multiple places to level 1-5 in and around Night Harbor. You don't have to go to noob yard and fight over mobs. There are beetles in the Inn basement, rats in the shipyard, and bats in another area. I hope they continue with this kind of mob populating because I want as many leveling routes as possible and its always fun to find a little inlet of mobs that no one knows about.

I don't know what the exp formulas look like, but I hope that they are designed in such a way that people will want to invite others LFG without killing their exp share. I hope teaming up is almost always preferable.
There are two noob yards btw - western gate & north gate. And there is a little noob yard in front of the Concourse of Souls. Didn't know all this when I first logged in, and I just camped because the western gate was so damn crowded.

Unless your one of the devs, as far as I know - there is nothing else "going on" except the announced test weekends - and then the 2026 Alpha plans.

I just wish I could get that far with my abject failure of using crossover and getting this darn thing installed.

Both of next zones over from the west and north gates also have basically noob level mobs near the zone lines. Aside from when you have 300 people people running around in the newb areas, there’s a decent amount of places to spread out

If you step 1 foot out of the noob yards after hitting 2 you are basically set for a while.

I need to start heading north out the gates, I've done the Wyrm zone, the desert zone and the starting zone enough.

The north gates leads out to the salt-flats and sand-giants.

Some things to keep in mind...I saw quaid getting shit on for some info from their discord, but it's good information to know and, I feel, not common info for vet gamers.

Apparently, you can mem ANY spell in a spell book. You can pass spellbooks to people to mem spells and hand back. This makes CR's insanely easier.

You can pop several utility spells into a book, bank it, Die, go back to bank, mem all those spells, Bank your book AGAIN, and run to grab your corpse with invisi, IVU, SoW and whatever else you need.

Sure this doesn't SOLVE Cr's but I feel it removes a big part of what makes CR's a nightmare in the minds of most people coming off things like WoW and EQ.

Best noob yard imo was the Necro/SK one by far much smaller and the mob density was night and day better than outside either of the gates, and I don’t think they’ve coded in anyone being KOS to their noob guards either

So basically it just adds… a new layer of tedium to corpse runs!

TBH given that they have a vision for equalizing the impact of death across melee and casters, it seems like casters will get a huge boon again on the front of corpse retrieval.

I have heard zero decent argument for forcing bank runs prior to CRs. The system adds zero marginal enjoyment, and is a net negative on the player.

The closest thing I’ve heard is that there may be plans for pack animals of some kind that have storage, where you can park them outside dungeons and store a spare spellbook there.

Ehh I just look at it as a "Character" thing. Every game has their "Quirk" and I feel like this one is pretty minor, mainly since I got the spellbook info.

AOA (Prior, Evercraft Online or ECO) is going a much more casual friendly route of keeping your stuff and XP recovery on corpse reclaim and then more XP on rez.

It’s not character, it’s bad game design.

Corpse runs are fun. Fighting your way back to your body with a power reduction from missing your gear, while experiencing the anxiety of losing your investment. That’s character.

Waiting for your group members to complete a bank run before you can get back to the core gameplay is just a shitty time sink.

In fact, if everyone is now basically forced to go back to the bank before a CR, now EVERYONE is gonna store a full CR gear set that it will be commonplace to own. Almost nobody behaved this way in early EQ outside of really catastrophic situations. You’ll effectively remove a really challenging part of the game by pushing this behaviour.

Say what? I'm confused about spell books. I only died once at lvl 1 and spawned right near my corpse. And only made it to lvl 4.

So, you'd have to re-buy a spell to scribe it in a new book? And people can scribe spells in a spell book and hand it back? Anyone can cast SoW if someone scribes it in a book for you?

I'm kinda lost and this spell book system is starting to sound pretty dumb.

No no i think you start dropping your spell book on your corpse at level 8. The spells don’t get deleted from it so they don’t need to be re-scribed. You loot your body, including your book, and re-memorize the spells.

The issue is that there’s an expectation you’ve bought a second spell book, scribed your spells in it, and left it in your bank for CRs. Otherwise you’d basically be naked and without spells on CR runs as a caster.

Warrior drop their weapons and armor

Time for casters to join the fun

Have a bank book was a good solution

I'm kinda lost and this spell book system is starting to sound pretty dumb.

The premise they are running with on the "Spells staying with your corpse" is that "Melee character lose all their gear and have to run back naked, so should casters".

So, when you die, your spell book of all your spells stays on your corpse. The intent is that, when you run back, you don't have any spells available to be cast just like a melee character won't have any gear or weapons.

The reality is that casters can have multiple spell books (Spell book A with all your spells; Spell Book B with CR spells). So what will happen is that casters will have 2 spellbooks and still not suffer any real "fate" like melee characters where all your gear is on your corpse deep down a dungeon.

I understand their premise but, to me, the system seems more like an attempt at building character than a fleshed out system.

What I noticed too was that "Utility Spells" are cheap. So having a 2nd book for CR purposes (invisi / IVU / Gate / bind / Summon food / water) is going to be pretty cheap, under a gold. Sure, you aren't gunna be killing your way down to your corpse, but it'll get things done, especially for now with most things not seeing through invisi.
