Pick 6 spells out of 21, put the rest back on the bottom of your library in any order you wish. Option to get another copy of each in your picks.

Effectively sort your deck in any order once it fires and put whichever cards you want in your hand.
My current standard deck is Mardu Discard control.

Howl of the Horde + Stain the mind take 3 entire threats fron there deck

1st place at a sealed draft tonight. Mardu with no amazing cards and no multi-lands or mana-fixing.. just a lot of outlast and abilities for creatures with +1/+1 counters on them from the outlast creatures. the +1/+1 and pro a color instant definitely won a couple games. Also, Helmsmasher won one or two.. didn't think he was that great, but, apparently, in a draft, he is. Most fun set to draft in a while.

Does not add up.

Store by me has a fucking ludicrous prize pool for draft pods on Friday nights. 5 packs per entrant, 15$. Wound up with a 2-1 and a 3-0 and netted a pile of packs. Didn't get shit, but still, was fun!

Disdainful stroke and signing bell strike were the MVPs of my night, had 2 disdainful in both drafts and 3 signing bell in the 3-0 run.

Yeah, now that I reread that.. lol..

At first glance Helmsmasher looked pretty underwhelming.. but, I was proven wrong after playing him

He's probably pretty close to the best thing you can open in a khans draft right now. Butcher of the horde is probably a bit better because flying, but Helmsmasher is a game winner for sure.

Probably he thought that because of his low value because of the duel deck having him.

Alright, you sit down and your first pack has Zurgo in it along with 3 uncommons and 11 commons. What are the commons and uncommons you value higher than a strong win condition such as Zurgo that you are willing to pass off to another player? Passing win conditions is a pretty shit idea generally.

Foil Monastery Swiftspear. You know, because it's 20 fucking dollars. Ditto for Foil Treasure Cruise.

But realistically, I dunno, there's some uncommons I really like. Sultai/Jeskai/Abzan Charm, Ride Down, the 2/3 falconer Outlast dude that gives flying, Armament Corps.

I would pick Murderous Cut over Zurgo. Abzan Battle Priest, Ainok Bond Kin.

I've had him played against me in several drafts and he's not that impressive.

I like Mist's answer more than "I'm forcing Outlast every single game."
Is that what you took my comment to mean?

There are definitely first pickable wedge cards, I just don't think Zurgo is one of them.

Edit: Oh, and I watched a ChannelFireball guy stream Ascendancy Combo in Modern through MTGO. The amount of clicking you have to do to go off online is ridiculous.

So what's your plan then, to pick the black removal, or white outlast dudes and pass the Zurgo left? Because the dude to your left is gonna take him so you're gonna be automatically fighting over colors right off the bat.

If I take Murderous Cut and pass Zurgo, I'm going to try and land black if possible, aiming towards Sultai. You can live with sharing 1 color with a neighbor, especially if you are passing into him packs 1 and 3.

Hey, I'd pass him because I'm a filthy casual that wants to play green and punch bears. Mist would take the dollars which I can also respect. I just think that passing excellent win conditions is a shit idea and passing them to go into heavily contested colors (which you just told the guy to the left of you are open) makes it even shittier.

I've also yet to even play the card I've chosen for my first pick from my first pack in any draft of this format so what the fuck do I know.

My problem with the pick is I don't think I can guarantee the Mardu aggressive archetype where he would be a good card. You really have to go all in if you are going aggressive since there's so much casual lifegain with the common two color lands.

Playing green and punching bears is an effective strategy. There was a shitload of that going on today at GP Orlando.
