The matches were pretty quick, like 17 minutes for the longest one. I don't think I ever drew doubles of anything so they must have just thought I drew lucky rather than my deck being the stone nuts. :p

His particular cheat stuck out the most to me because I know all the pieces of that one and could replicate it easily. All of these stories have gotten me to really reconsider how I shuffle.

I think the features of a good fair shuffle are turning the deck away from your body so no chance of seeing card faces and when you mash cards making sure you arent holding the top card.

I don't play in a competitive environment really so it's not something I worry about. I think the hard part for me would be watching my opponent shuffle while I'm also shuffling.

First off, I'm going to stand by the fact that I'm not cheating and that I'm appealing this heavily. Original allegations were sent in by local judges, two to three videos, as well as one decided to publicly smear me on Facebook threads. I contacted multiple people to get them taken down, and talked with the head of DCI Investigations about the original claims. I was cleared on those and I thought it might be over. The next morning Mascioli found out about it among others, and it reignited, obviously stronger than ever before. So now based on the supposedly 12 videos they were under review and I was doing my job to find counter evidence, which I was able to find a great deal (though apparently not enough).

I will be fighting this very hard, as it's more than a hobby it's my career. I'd never cheat at something like this, it's not worth it. Basically embezzling money from a company I own, and I wouldn't do that. Also the videos only show it happening sometimes, and if I thought I could cheat on camera...Wouldn't I just do it all the time and be unbeatable? There's a lot of things that logically don't add up, but I don't know what else to do but to fight it. It's been a really really tough time on me
Lol... Right.

Cheating 101 is to do it when you need the cheated wins and not all the time - so you can give examples of when you didn't for plausible deniability - just like he's doing. Making himself sound even more the cheater with the typical methodology and defense.

Well.. to be fair, what other route should he take? If you assume he's not a cheater, there is no other defense other then saying you aren't a cheater. Should he go 'lol, yea I'm a cheater, unban me plz'

Not saying I think he's innocent, I do believe he cheated, but that line of thinking is a bit narrow.

The other route to take is to just not make any public statements while you plead your case to Wizards. Running over to Twitter or Reddit to defend your honor won't do you any favors.

You know what the reaction normally is for people that AREN'T CHEATING and then get honestly surprised by an accusation like that? Something along the lines of "Oh shit, I can see how it could look that way" - not just immediate "No way in hell was I pal" with deflection and accusations of witch huntery. (Or as Arbitrary said - just shutting the hell up about it at least doesn't scream "Guilty")

Sure, there's always outliers in anything involving psychology - but most cheaters will act as he did, and most that aren't will express shock and acknowledge why people might think they saw what they did. His adamant denials that people could even think he was possibly cheating in those recordings is a blindspot that only an emboldened cheater usually has.

It's really an amateur move when someone doth protests too much.

I remember in high school messing around with card tricks and sleight of hand and now I'm mad at myself for never realizing that I could have applied what I knew to putting lands on the top of my opponent's deck. In the age before cameras I could have been the Rookie Player of the Year of 1997 or something. Now I'm too old to care.

Heh, yea, with all these "busts" of similar nonsense I was thinking the same thing about how most of these guys should probably just learn to network a bit better and apply their talent to doing sleight of hand as a magician and then when people "bust them" it really doesn't matter since they get to set the rules and as long as they're not an asshole a few people figuring out your tricks doesn't matter.

Boettcher is a local player. There's a lot of butt hurt on the local MTG FB group.

I'm GP NJ bound tho! (go MUD!)

Preparing for GPNJ, I've jammed about 100 matches playing BUG Delver on MTGO in the last 48 hours and I keep getting shit on by Miracles. My build is more tempo oriented which may be incorrect for the current meta.

I always assumed BUG had a pretty good matchup there because you run Abrupt Decay. I would expect to see plenty of UR Delver at the GP so I would tune towards that, but I would think you would have a fairly favorable matchup there too.

Can't decide whether Treasure Cruise ruined my Mono(Ish) Black Control Infect Modern deck's games, or made it more hilarious. Hate it when I play against it, since it's pretty much always "I top decked an ancestral recall," but it is amazing for restocking removal/discard on turn 4.

The Jeskai Ascendancy decks bringing Leyline of Sanctity back definitely hurt it

But that's why fun decks are labeled "fun."

Four killing blows with Wildfire Emissary (Hooray Phyrexian Crusader's derpy back-up singer) at the GPT Sunday, top 4 with the silly deck. Blown out by a leyline of sanctity into Sylvan Caryatid opener from the Ascendancy guy in game 3. Khans Fetches really made being Grixis-splash a lot more consistent.

Entreat Miracles gets stomped pretty hard by UR Delver, so I expect to see them moving towards RIP/Helm again. Right now it just seems like a stronger version of the deck. I actually don't think you'll see too much of it, but I could be wrong. I don't know why people love playing Miracles so much. It's godawful boring to me.

A lot of incidental graveyard hate is going to make reanimator and dredge fucking awful, but it's going to hurt Tarmogoyf too.
