Played the mill version of Jeskai Ascendency today at FNM, I went 2-2 and feel good about it. The deck is way beyond my skill level but its super fun.

It's like a fucking 5/9 Wall of Turtle for 5 that sometimes attacks once you've got total control over the game. Until then, it's just a giant anchor to block/Savage Punch off of.

You don't pick it highly, but if you're already green, very few decks don't want a 5/9 for 5 in this format.

Just realized Meandering Towershell and Kin-Tree Invocation could be a thing that happens heh

Yeah I played against this.

You mean fun for YOU. It wasn't fun for anyone else.

Is mill really *ever* any fun for the person it's played against? It ranks down there with counter-control as least fun for the average Joe. Most fun is usually just fatties smashing each other, followed by burn. Combo can be good or bad, depending on how much Autofellatio is involved and if you've ever seen it go off before.

I meant combo isn't fun, not mill. Mill is just an alternate life total.

What specifically needs to stop is having to sit there watching your opponent play solo for 10 minutes with random 30 second pauses then win then they always say something assholeish like "wow that was intense/close/tense", like you have any idea of how close they were to fizzling. This happening on T4 when you can't really be expected to have answers is pretty fucking awful too.

Sideboard needs to have enchantment hate for Standard now. Especially with Whip on the rise.

I should fucking retire from magic because I will never draft a deck that good again.

Okay, maybe people online are just bad:

This time I'm showing all the good cards I DIDN'T play, just to show you how fucking bad people are. Every one of these decks has been from an 8-4.

So, should I keep my fetch lands? I have like 3 so far, and I'd heard that they'll be something people in Legacy will want... Implying a price increase.

I've played this game for 20 years and I don't get the fascination with eternal formats. Unless you have a serious fetish for Brainstorm/Daze/FoW then why fucking bother?
This was me pretty much. I dominated the extended scene around here with miracle grow until it rotated. Then the T1 scene for a while using grow variants ect.. Those Aggro control decks like the ones I mentioned and u/g madness in t2 were always my best deck archetype.

T1 was far more competitive in Rhode Island/Southern New England back then. For t2 and extended I usually had to travel for really competitive stuff.

Reading this stuff really makes me want to play magic again.

How much cash would i have to dole out to be competitive in t2 nowadays? I am also admittedly a bit nervous I could come back and find myself not able to get back to the level I once was at. Or pending far too much time on magic like i did back then.

Edit: Reading all this crap about cheating and shuffling really pisses me off. So many people back then would use the tricks described and i had no idea it was cheating. In retrospect it makes it easier to understand how my DCi rating/tourny win % was always a good bit better on mtgO. I even saw people doing those fucking tricks against me when i played in pro tours.

Whidon, I live in Southern MA and play in Providence a bit. We have a small group that drafts and is ramping up for Standard tournaments if you are trying to find a play group.
