Michigan gun owners with extra training could carry concealed weapons in schools under bill OK'd by House panel

LANSING, MI - Gun owners with concealed weapon permits could get additional training that would allow them to carry their concealed firearms in schools and at sporting events on school property under legislation approved Wednesday by a Michigan House committee.

The bill, OK'd 7-2 by majority Republicans along party lines, is awaiting potential final votes before lawmakers conclude their lame-duck session.

Michigan now prohibits people licensed for concealed weapons from carrying them in schools, day care centers, sports arenas, bars, places of worship, hospitals, dorms and casinos. They can, however, openly carry their guns in schools and all other places except federal buildings, courthouses and casinos.

Those half million Americans in your example make a conscience choice when deciding to eat. The 27 dead in today's tragic event did not choose today as their judgement day. This is a terrible example. Comparing hamburgers to bullets is worse than apples to oranges.

That's a good way of looking at it. I guess the only way to fix / reverse this tragedy is to redouble our efforts and motivation to improve society / the lives of people around us.

As far as I am aware, getting permission from a parent to talk to a child is entirely ethical. I guess I don't understand why the brief interview was so horrible for the child. I am sympathetic to your feelings, believe me.

I am very in favour of very strict gun laws. I own no guns.

That said, this is not about gun laws. Give everyone in the world a gun, and when shit like this happens, it's still shocking. This didn't happen because people had guns. It happened because crazy, stupid, terrible people took guns into an elementary school and acted on their crazy impulses.

I have a child in elementary school, too. This sickens me. Jumping on the bandwagon of gun control isn't going to make a difference here, however.

The parent is an idiot, the people who do 'news' are soulless fucks. Every time an insignificant fuck stain guns down people for attention it inspires the next one to do the same. I don't know the cure, but I am sick of the symptoms.
