Yeah, I think thats a lot of bullshit and have a lot to do with parents refusing to take responsibility for raising a social tard. Same way that parents dose their kid on ritalin because he is an asshole.

Did she ever come out and renounce her previous advocacy for that now discredited study from the UK?

The problem with this stuff (and mental health in general) is we still are not fully understanding everything. Things like heart disease, cancer etc (rightfully) get more focus since they kill directly. We need to figure out a way to direct our research dollars into various buckets and explore frontiers and get it all done. I'm sure her doctors thought they had the right diagnoses.

And there is a world of difference between a normal kid liking something and an Aspergers or an autism spectrum child doing so, but I'm sure you knew that already.

There's no doubt that Jenny McCarthy is an uninformed asshole cashing in on her kid's autism. But there is also no doubt you are being a total douche about this.

It's incredible how much of an asshole you can be sometimes.
Merely offering a perspective on the exaggerated and overwrought handwringing as it relates to this shooting as well as the general perception of mental health care industry.

I don't get it. It's like he doesn't get enough enjoyment out of trolling the conservatards in the political thread anymore, so he has decided to just thread shit with his childish faggotry anywhere he thinks he will get attention.

Video Game Legislation status: Imminent.

http://www.politico.com/story/2012/1...ied-85298.html

"Recent court decisions demonstrate that some people still do not get it," Rockefeller said in a statement."They believe that violent video games are no more dangerous to young minds than classic literature or Saturday morning cartoons. Parents, pediatricians, and psychologists know better. These court decisions show we need to do more and explore ways Congress can lay additional groundwork on this issue. This report will be a critical resource in this process. I call on my colleagues to join to me in passing this important legislation quickly."
Rockefeller said he will call on the FTC and FCC to expand their work on video game regulation."The FTC has reviewed the effectiveness of the video game ratings system. The FCC has looked at the impact of violent programming on children. Changes in technology now allow kids to access violent content on-line with less parental involvement," he said. "It is time for these two agencies to take a fresh look at these issues."

The lawmaker also pointed out that responsibility rests with the entertainment industry. "Major corporations, including the video game industry, make billions on marketing and selling violent content to children. They have a responsibility to protect our children," he said."If they do not, you can count on the Congress to take a more aggressive role."

I remember playing the original zelda when I was 5. I am now thinking about slaying people with a magical sword.

As a kid who grew up with mortal kombat, quake, duke nukem 3d etc I never felt influenced toward violence by those games but I could see how some kids would be. I also wouldn't mind legislation that made things more clear to parents that the games they bought kids for christmas contain incredible amounts of violence. Or legislation that made it more difficult for minors to purchase games. I also don't really mind the media demonizing video games that much because we all know that's a losing battle for the media as my generation gets older.

I don't worry about censorship of video games because I don't think it's going to happen.

As someone who worked at a gamestop years ago - 90% of parents don't give a shit what a game is rated. The only game I've ever saw a parent put back after the kid brought it to the counter was GTA. Other parents even after being told it was not appropriate for some 10 year old just got pissed at staff for saying anything.

Retailers are already supposed to enforce ESRB ratings and check IDs before selling to certain age groups. That's been around for at least a decade. The legislation is out there already for that and its stupid.

Unless you also make playing those games illegal for certain age groups, then simply establishing a barrier at point of sale is simply pointless. You can pay anyone to buy it for you because the there is no consequence of transferring the game from adult to minor after the purchase.

Legislating video games is gonna be another useless money sink. If a 12 year old wants to play Call of Duty 17: Space Zombies they are going to find a way to play it. Fucking nanny state.

I think the overall goal should be to inform and convince parents that a game is violent and they may want to consider whether they should give the game to their kid. No one step to doing that is going to be bullet proof.
