Betting on sports as a player or coach is a problem, regardless. It's kind of an unwritten rule. Jordan was under investigation until he "retired" at which point the NBA announced the case was dropped. How convenient.

I wouldn't believe it either, except for what he said in the press conference:

"Five years down the road," he said at a press conference, "if the urge comes back, if the Bulls will have me,if David Stern lets me back in the league, I may come back."

Why would Stern have toletJordan back into the league if heretired? His return from retirement was also exactly 18 months from his press conference.

Wanna Be Like Mike? - The Fix Is In

There is just no fucking way that Jordan, at 29, after three-peating with his entire team intact would've walked away. They basically had to force his 40 year old ass out. He talks about wanting to play at 50. No way the guy doesn't go for four in a row. Especially since he came back and won three more. Fuck we could be talking about a Bulls team that won 6 or 7 straight. That is all-time best team territory right there.

Instead he retires at 29 for exactly 18 months before coming back and playing basketball for another half decade. My ass.

It has to be a written rule for it to be a suspendable action...
Not really, look at the Sterling thing. It's about costing the league money. Look at the Pete Rose situation in baseball. MJ is way more important to basketball than Pete Rose ever was to baseball. MJ betting on shit, especially if he was betting on NBA games, would've caused a massive storm of shit and cost a lot of people money.

Pete Rose actually bet on baseball games, though.

And the rules the owners operate under are not the same as the players. If there's nothing in the collective bargaining agreement, there's no chance in hell the union wouldn't fight it and likely win. And, to be honest, if there was no evidence of Jordan betting on basketball, I doubt there'd be much of a public outcry to push a Sterling like decision.

All this changes if he did bet on NBA games but, again, not even a rumor of that.

I suppose there's the possibility that some of the betting was illegal under criminal statutes, but I don't know much about that.

You'll just never convince me that hyper competitive Jordan would retire at 29 after a threepeat, especially because he came back so fast and played another 7 years or whatever. No way. The Bulls could've been up there with those 60s Celtics teams as best of all time.

Sorry, 96 Bulls are already the greatest team of all time.

The idea that Stern would do some ridiculous under the table suspension in order to protect Jordan and the league is so retarded you'd have to be Gaige level stupid to believe it. If Stern was going to do shady shit like this then why not just lie and say "Nope, no wrong doing found"? Why put together this elaborate conspiracy just to lose the most marketable player in history for a few years?

He did do exactly that. Four days after Jordan's press conference the NBA released the results of their five month investigation citing no wrongdoing found. He did it because losing MJ for 18 months and hoping he gets help and can come back and lead the league again is better than tarnishing his reputation and losing him forever by doing nothing about it.

Yeah, that's fucking crazy right? I mean, that would take something insane... like your closest family member, mentor, and father being murdered to explain such irrational behavior. I mean, why else would you want to check out and take a break from life?

So then why not just say nothing was found and not suspend him? Seems like all the suspension did was cost everyone a ton of money and gave themselves a lot more to lose by this bizarre coverup.

Also, I don't see why making him leave the game he burned for (if, according to Gaige, that didn't diminish) would help him with his gambling problem.

Jordan's father died in August he retired in October. He was so grief stricken it took him two months to figure it out?

Sure. 2 months seems perfectly normal. Few weeks to get over the grief, another few weeks to reassess his life up to that point. Few more weeks to wrap up the loose NBA ends in his life and quit

That's also the fact that this all happened in the offseason. I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision and waited until the season was about to start before he made such a big decision.

Bullshit. He should have made a life changing decision in 48 hours because Lebron is so awesome
