Rondo is also one of the best defensive players at a position 90% of the league can't defend. People blow out of proportion those finals games where Kobe was sagging off Rondo and grabbing 14 boards or whatever. He's absolutely a plus asset on whatever team he plays on. And he's on the last year of his 12 mil dollar deal (fucking Rubio just got 14 million, 12 is not expensive anymore).

I'm all over it - Rondo is still a walking double double when he's healthy. It might be a bit short sighted though as he's 28 and probably past his best, but as good as the Mavs have looked (in spurts) this season - they aren't winning squat with the current roster. They'll make the playoffs and be dangerous either way, but at least this way you give yourself a chance at something - maybe not a big chance, but a chance. All that said, I can see him end up in LA

Rondo is on the last year of his contract. It's a rental for whatever team trades for him anyway.

He's said he would extend with the Mavericks.

He's an upgrade, but he's not a shooter. I've never liked Rondo's game and I think that trade would hurt the Mav's rim protection and their spacing. He's old and expensive now and Brendan Wright is like the most efficient offense/defense guy in the league in his 20 minutes a game.
Brendan Wright is more of an offensive guy in the Mavs scheme - he's too slight to offer much rim protection which is why he only plays off the bench. Yeah he gets blocks but he can't defend a guy like Marc Gasol or Howard at all.

Right now Monta is the guy that handles the ball when he's on the floor but Rondo can't shoot so his value is nil if he's not the guy with the ball. If this trade goes through, it likely means either a big scheme change or the Mav's will eventually part ways with Monta. Monta will be the spot up shooter in the new scheme with Jameer Nelson part of the trade, with Rondo handling the ball.

Your PG does not need to be much of a shooter when your PF is Dirk.

Still nice for your PG to be able to shoot 3s in the Mav's system - but Carlisle will make it work.

I think the major impetus of this trade is defense though - after Steph and Klay killed them the other night. Rondo has been kind of lackadaisical on defense the last couple years but Mavs are betting on him stepping up when he's on a competitive team.

With Ellis, Dirk, and Parsons, how much offense do you really need from Rondo? I think it was a pretty good move. Should be interesting watching Rondo on perimeter D knowing he has Chandler behind him if he gets beat...should lead to a lot of steals.

Because Monta is a guy that wants to handle the ball, like Harden. I'm not sure how that will work with a ball dominant PG like Rondo.

I'd make sure I broke up the minutes so that one of them was on the floor at all times. Let Rondo lead the offense to start games, but Ellis would be in charge and do like he do whenever Rondo is out of the game. Ellis should be able to adapt. I know because I'm the Mavericks PG in MyCareer on NBA2k15.

Rondo on the mavs seems like an obvious win. His defense has been crap this year, but with the front court in Dallas protecting the rim, his numbers should improve.

Seems expensive, but worth it since they weren't winning anything this year nor in the near future. Probably still won't. But should improve their chances.

I will be happy seeing Jae Crowder get more burn in Boston. At least I hope he does. I love that dude.

This doesn't really mean anything though and I think you know that. Rondo will be looking for one more huge payday. If the Mavs want to pay it, sure, but they've always been very savvy with financials around Dirk. Like I can't imagine Cuban offering Rondo a deal beyond 2 years after this one, with how short term all your player's contracts are right now.

I know there are scheme questions with this deal but you really can't compare thetalentlevel of any combination of the players going out with that of Rajon's. At his best, he's without question a top 5 PG in the league. At his worst, he's a guy that defenses sag off of, but I really can't imagine this team playing as slow as those Celtics teams where everyone made a huge deal out of that. Ultimately talent wins out and he has it in spades.

KD drops 30 in the 1st half, then rolls his right foot.

Feels bad man.

edit: X-rays negative, sprained ankle. Will not return tonight.

They said that's the first time a player has scored 30+ points in under 20 minutes since the merger. That's pretty crazy.

The entire West should be terrified. The tanking to keep out of the top seed that will play OKC is going to be amazing.

The Spurs, as usual, will play it perfectly and end up at 7 somehow and not play OKC until the Western Finals. Stupid Spurs.

I still don't like OKC outside of Durant/Westbrook/Ibaka, and their coach is still terrible.

Coaching is what has held them back the last few times they got deep in the playoffs - very evident against coaches like Pop and Carlisle.

Oh their coach is definitely complete shit.
