From what I can gather if you put a negative amount as the price for an item using the Gateway AH it somehow would give you that much AD in game. If you check the AH in game you see tons of posts with like -100,000 buyouts. They took the Gateway down a bit ago but seems a ton of people got huge amounts of AD.

It is pretty obvious what the exploit is if you look at the AH. I won't explain it directly (not that it matters now the economy is shot, needs to be deleted or rolled back)...

Gateway + negative bids + poor programming causing overflow

You guy's think there really gonna do a roll back? they fuckin better not why piss off most of the People rather than the few xploiters, that is cool people were giving away cats for free tho!

They would have to rollback. It is the only solution. Too much of the items and wealth was spread around to people not doing the exploit, and I am sure the people who did it spread the wealth to multiple accounts anyway.

Servers went down just now. Zero warning.

What's great is some of the posts on the Neverwinter Forums regarding the chances of a rollback or a character wipe. It's starting to turn a few of their "it's a beta, duh! Lol" fanboys into mouth frothing ragers.

It does make me feel kind of glad I never put a dime into this game and at least got a good chunk of entertainment out of it. I'd be kind of pissed if I actually bought a Guardian pack or something with how shaggy Cryptic/PWE runs this shit.

Cannot even get into the Forums for Neverwinter. Been trying for 5 minutes or so now. At least I know the servers going down was not me getting hacked hehe.

forums are up. but getting hammered or something. lagged out like crazy. need to reload a few times to get pages to load.

Yea got in about a minute ago. Takes a good 30 seconds for a page to load. Seeing over 4000 viewing the general forum there atm.

Update 12PM Pacific: We are still investigating the situation. There is a high likelihood that we will be performing character-specific rollbacks on any accounts that were found to be utilizing the exploit. Additionally, we are investigating the extent of what can additional steps can be taken to remove any illegitimately obtained Astral Diamonds that have entered into the economy. We are also investigating the possibility of a shard-wide rollback.Update 12:15PM Pacific: We're bringing the shards down temporarily to better investigate the issue. Estimated downtime is 1 hour. On twitter Shard downtime just got extended an additional two hours so we are looking at 6pm eastern as earliest its back up right now.

I'm also wondering what they're going to do. I could see if they had records of all AH transactions they could remove some of the money and ban those who did it. But that didn't change all the money fluxing into the game economy and the infationary issues that will have. If they just had the AH engine dump syslogs for every transaction into a syslog repository I could whip up something in Splunk to find every exploiter fast.... they have to be at least more clever than me.

Yeah I knew some serious shit was gonna go down when I logged in and EVERY auction I had up had sold...even the stuff that was posted for what had been ludicrous prices the night before. So I have clearly profited from this craziness as has everyone who received a cat etc. Other than a system-wide rollback of at least 24 hours how do they control this?

If they manage this poorly it has the potential to turn their entire successful launch and crush it into the ground.
