I was messing. He's just had such a history of these kinds of moves. I know his son has kept the crazy out of his GM decisions over the past few years, but he's got one more WTF signing in him. Come on Jerrah!

I think he's going to wait until JFF gets kicked out of Cleveland.

When do we start an off season thread, im interested in hearing thoughts about draft and who will be coaching where.
We usually do the off-season chat in the season thread until after the super bowl, then the off season thread is started iirc.

As far as the bears go, the trendy picks for coach right now seem to be shannahan to QB whisper Cutler back to average or rex Ryan to fix our atrocious defense. Realistically we'll probably get someone like Todd Bowles (cardinals d coordinator) because he'll be much cheaper.

I think you can rule out Josh McDaniels as the head coach don't ya think? Just think of the lulz though, the jokes write themselves!

It seems like they are going to spend some money this time according to today's press conference. We'll see I guess.

Was talking on the phone with my brother today and he said the bears should give Singletary another shot as a head coach. I'm not sure most bears fans deserve a good head coach. My other favorite comment from a friend today was them asking what connection rex Ryan has with the bears. I must be getting old at the age of thirty one when I realize half the people I talk to about sports on a regular basis only have memories of the patriots as a semi dynasty.

Regardless, did 49er fans honestly think Harbaugh was going to be the coach forever? I just don't understand fans treating this guy like he was the second coming of Walsh, simply because hewasn'tErickson/Nolan/Singletary. Was he a good coach? Definitely. But even good coaches don't last forever. You can blame Walsh for this franchise running "good" coaches out of town. That's why Seifert's contract wasn't extended and ultimately led to his resignation - he was successful, but not successfulenough. He lost 3 NFC Championships, 2 of them back-to-back. Then, he couldn't get past Green Bay in the divisional rounds after finally getting past the Cowboys. That's the way the 49ers do business when they don't get the chance to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. That's why Montana finished his career in Kansas City. Being a fan for 30 years, you should know that this is the 49ers M.O. DeBartolo, York, it doesn't matter.
You're confusing expectations and acceptance. Nobody is surprised he's gone because we've been hearing this would happen for months. However, I don't accept this as being ok. It was one thing firing guys in charge of teams that were still tied to the golden ages. When you fail to win with Young, Rice, Taylor, Rathman, Jones, AND a great defense... ok. High expectations are understandable there. And DeBartolo had the previous trophies to back up his actions, so those guys at least had some justification to say super bowl win or bust.

But little Jed wasn't in charge of the team during the golden ages. He doesn't have the past to be able to sit up there like he did today and preach "super bowl or bust" like he's ever done a damn thing. He's not his uncle, and the York's were in charge for the worst stretch the franchise had since the 70's. They should have learned something during it. They should have learned to appreciate being able to compete for it every year rather than perennially missing the playoffs.

Under Harbaugh, they were right there 3 times in a row. Right there. Every elimination game for them was decided by a play against the eventual super bowl champion. It's fucking insane to me that after that shit stretch of 6-8 years, to get that close 3x with a coach where they seriously could have won it 3 different years if the outcome of a single play had been different, they give up on him. You might be ok with that because of what DeBartolo did, I'm not. The circumstances are entirely different and York comes off as a snot-nosed silver spoon brat who seems to think he's a winner for what the team accomplished while his uncle was owner.

Its interesting that Brady was willing to give up his guaranteed money. That doesn't happen very often. Guy is the epitome of a team player.

Most NFL players are the primary breadwinner in the household. I don't doubt one bit that he's a huge team player and doing it for the right reasons, anyone who doesn't think that guy is hyper-competitive is an idiot. Just saying he's in a ridiculously unique situation, financially.

When did he give you the impression he thinkshe'sa winner? He made it very apparent that the 49ers are anorganizationthat expects and demands greatness. Which they do, as is evidenced by the likes of both Walsh and Seifert being run out of town. Jed's the head of that organization now and hehasto have that attitude. This isn't the Jets, or the Jags, or the Browns, or any other perennial bottom dweller. This is one of the winningest franchises in the history of the NFL and "we almost had it!" isn't good enough. It wasn't for Seifert, it wasn't for Mooch, and it obviously wasn't for Harbaugh. Any year that the Lombardi trophy is in another teams' showcase, it's a failure. Call that spoiled, call it unrealistic, call it whatever you want. It doesn't change the fact that that is how the 49ers' front office has operated since becoming one of the biggest/best/winningest franchises in the NFL.

However, like I said, vilify York all you want. Deify Harbaugh all you want. Without context and all the information, speculation on Jed being spoiled, Trent being a dick, or Harbaugh being a lunatic, is all ignorant. The facts remain that the 49ers front office has always had these expectations and in their minds, those expectations weren't being met. Maybe they are completely off their rocker. I guess it'll take another season or two to figure that out. But, I tend to think with the success that York and Baalke have had form a personnel standpoint, trusting their judgement isn't the craziest idea.

Brady is not getting cut, not at 38 or 39 or even 40 when his contract is done (if the 3 years left is right) will he be cut and if they did cut him there would be about 20 NFL teams ready to break the bank to give the 40 year old Brady because he will still be better than the vast majority of QB's available. Brady says he wants to play for forever and with the quality of QB's in the NFL he could play to 45 if he wanted and people like the Chiefs (sorry for some reason old QB's love to go to KC) or Oakland will always be in need.

This attitude is completely retarded and probably why they will likely be crap for the next half a decade again. The Seahawks appreciate it though.

Just watched that Suh stomping video. Didn't look terrible from the first angle, but as soon as they showed it from another camera angle it was pretty clear it was intentional.
