I think most people mark the genesis of the modern offense with Bill Walsh. And pretty much offenses and QB's past the advent of west coast as being in a "modern" offense where QB's in the 70s/80s/early 90s were seen as more old-school.

Then you have people like Kelly taking the west coast offense and putting it on drugs

The extra protection in the rules that the offensive guys now get kind of skews it, too. Its hard to put up those kinds of numbers when the guy catching the ball is going to get flattened by Ronnie Lott or Chuck Cecil one step after catching it.

As for me being salty, yeah I am. But its mostly at McCarthy. He is the worst coach ever to win a superbowl. Unfortunately, getting really lucky one year will let him and Teddy the Ghost Thompson keep their jobs no matter what happens. We will win our division and then be one and done, as usual. Martyball 4 life! As someone who watched the entire Favre era, this is looking a lot like a repeat where we get in once and then ride the mediocrity train all the way down, except Favre actually made it to two superbowls.

But seriously, I get being flustered after the non call for PI, but only a neckbeard retard playing Madden goes for it on 4th and 5 at midfield with the game close, let alone in a lopsided venue like Seattle. But then when you KNOW the fucking play clock did not get wound, you don't call time out and sort it out with the refs? Total fucking amateur hour. He threw the whole game away right there. Plus we're popping off five yards a run even though we lost our starting center and guard, but lets not do that more than twice a drive and throw every fucking down instead, because fuck it Rodgers will save my fat ass. Except when he doesn't, because the Hawks actually HAVE a secondary, unlike the dead weight in our own division.

I am not mad about the loss itself. I expected to lose (I thought 13-19 score was likely) in that situation. What I am mad about is the poor choices our head coach continues to make where he makes Andy Reid's clock management look good in comparison. This is just another slow start that will end in us winning the division by default and scrubbing out in the playoffs. This team will never see another Superbowl appearance under this coach and GM. We were lucky beyond belief to get the one we did.

And what is that dark blue in southern Virginia? Is that Colts fans left over from the Baltimore Colts days? I'm suprised there's still any big number of colts fans there, with the Redskins being nearby all along, its not like the 'skins are a recent expansion team or something.
Pretty sure that's fucking Dallas for some reason.

And with the way the Colts left Baltimore I don't know if there are any warm fuzzy feelings for the Colts

That's deep southern Virginia too, very much "the south" down there culturally. I doubt any of those counties ever felt a kinship to Baltimore. Why so many Cowboys counties so deep in 'skins territory IDK though.

But how does Baltimore feel about the Colts these days? Like I know the Browns fans around here don't exactly love the Ravens but are pretty much over you guys leaving.

Really? Cause some Cleveland dude went and pissed on Art Modell's grave this offseason then got in trouble for putting it on youtube.

The animosity is not gone by any stretch. Obviously some people more than others, and more for older fans who actually lived through it. And having a team again and with some decent success over the years has helped a lot obviously. But many, maybe most, Ravens fans will still spit on the Irsays' name regularly and see it as a bit of a vengeance match to play the Colts. I do meet people from time to time who never stopped rooting for the Colts and still hold a soft spot for them even if they support the Ravens. I see that less and less anymore though.

Obviously it does when you're comparing "the passing game wasn't nearly as used or complex."
If you're using stats to make your case, which you did, then it doesn't make sense. You can't compare a career to half a career and say, "Yep, look at that, more TD/passing yards/etc".

But, yes, passing offenses took a big leap in the 80s and 90s. Doesn't mean they aren't more complex now.

Also, think about this: Unitas wanted his jersey in the HoF as aBaltimoreColt but they forced it to be under "Indianapolis" along with every other Baltimore Colts record. On top of that they used Unitas' number on some scrub despite the fact that a HoF player who was among the greatest to play the position should never see his number used by that club again. This for a guy who choose to live in Baltimore after playing and then regularly came to Ravens games and supported them until he died. Fuck the Colts.

We tend to justify our theft of the Browns franchise by citing this kind of stuff and saying "at least they got their name and records back!" Which is true to a degree but I can see why they feel like Modell took his approach to creating a real winning front office out of town and we benefited. The replacement they've gotten has been worse than any team including the Raiders. I would think they'd hate us forever.

I think the blow is softened because the team is back as the Cleveland Browns and the franchise was allowed to keep all it's history. So while it isn't really the "old" Browns it feels very much that way. With Baltimore you have a whole new name and a whole new history.

How do Texans fans feel about it? Those unlucky fucks have to play their old team twice a year. But maybe Oilers fans all became Cowboys fans, and then the next generation became Texans fans?

Two Super Bowls in less than 15 years.

Decent success.

I think that has more to do with the respective Divisions and schedule than anything else in looking at how they calculate those odds. You put the Giants in the NFCN and they're odds drop close the 30th.

Redskins playoff odds in the double digits?Fuckyeah.

Also, Cleveland and Baltimore both need to move on. Irsay Sr. and Modell are dead and today both cities have football teams. Cleveland is a dumpster fire, I get that, but people in Baltimore are still mad at a dead guy after football came back and brought 2 Super Bowls? Probably the same dipshits who like to pronounce the state name "Murr-lynn" regardless of how stupid it sounds!
