Last few drafts have been pretty good since Garrett has had some say. Last draft they traded the #18 pick for two first rounders - check out some of the redrafts that have Travis Frederick in the high teens/low 20s and Terrance Wiliams in the 20s. Escobar was really the only pick that didn't make sense, hindsight they should of taken a D-lineman but they had 6 guys they liked for 4 spots going into camp already. Even Escobar looked good at the end of the season so he still may end up replacing Witten in a few years.

But yeah, they are really being punished right now from the 2008 and 2009 drafts when Jerry was listening to Wade a bit too much, or not listening to anyone at all. The trick with Jerry during the draft is he listens to the last person he talks to - which is usually him calling up Barry Switzer or Larry Lacewell for their 70-year old opinions. I think Garrett has realized this and has done a better job at getting Jerry to talk to actual scouts last.

Still, they had SOME depth on the D-line going into training camp. Then 2 of their starters and their 2 backups got injured (Anthony Spencer, Crawford, Ben Bass) for the year or were fucking with the team (Ratliff) - no team can weather having to use 19 different D-linemen during a season, that excessive. But no depth at Safety behind Church, no depth at LB behind Lee/Carter. The injuries let them find some good cheap players for the future like George Selvie or find out what they had with their late round draft picks like Holloman but whatever.

Cowboys D was shitty even before they had all the injuries. They may not have been the absolute worst in the NFL if they were healthier, but their absolute ceiling is a below average defense. Their safeties are terrible and Ware hardly produced in the 4-3 while he was dominating the league in the 3-4. It's easy to think Spencer being healthy and Ratliff not being a POS would have solved everything, but I really doubt it
This, Rob Ryan had the defense playing well before all the injuries and got shit canned. Dallas' defense never even showed up last season.

As much as I enjoy a nice mediocre to bad Dallas team...you really do have to recognize the fact that they really were down to practice squad guys and wal mart greeters on defense.

It looked to me at least that Ware was obviously continuing to play hurt even when he was "cleared" to be starting games after the 4 or whatever he missed. Scheme change or not I just don't think he was right this year.

Lee is looking like the defensive Gronk...just can't stay on the field. Ratliff pulled a fast one on Jerrah, etc.

Too many key guys gone. And they still managed to be 8-8. If they had their guys it probably would have been Dallas going one and done instead of Philly. IMO at least.

Still have no idea how Dallas was the only team that managed to hold down Nick Foles/McCoy/Chip (twice) with the defense they were trotting out. Division opponents and all that I guess.

The same way the Chargers held the Broncos to season lows in points. Shit happens, man.

I'm guessing it's because they were good friends and the dead guy's mother was even begging for a light sentence. They were supposed to be like brothers, so he already paid a much higher price than if it was a stranger.

Foles was exposed and he'll have a much harder season next year. Right as the game was starting, Collinsworth even mentioned that Foles struggled when under heavy pressure. Them and NO both brought it and Foles wasn't nearly as good. If Heath wasn't the worst safety in the history of football, the Cowboys would have blown them out in week 17

Josh Brent gets 180 days in jail, probation - ESPN Dallas

180 days? What an actual fuck?
but at least the 10 years of probation will do him in because no way he'll stay on straight and narrow for a decade
Pretty much the norm - think I heard on the radio that half of the manslaughter cases in Texas are probation.

The Cowboys have him living with David Wells (the guy that they got to mentor Dez and get him on the right path), so it may turn out okay. 10 years is a long time though.

Two inexplicable things from 2013: Demoting J. J. Wilcox, who was better than Heath in every way, and abandoning the run game versus Green Bay.

Wilcox may be a better player, but he didn't seem to know his job as well as Heath did - even if Heath had no chance of competing athletically with anyone he covered he was at least in position most of the time.

In a perfect world rookie's wouldn't get forced into starting jobs in a new defensive scheme.

Jesus Tap Dancing Christ. It's pretty fucking bad when you have to have a babysitter for a grown damn man. I'm not singling this mongoloid out, I'm sure it happens on a regular basis with other teams as well.

Heh, he's been "babysitting" troubled Cowboys players for close to 2 decades. He's a pretty successful business man and he's black so the players trust what he tells them.

I bet every team has someone like him that don't officially work for the team.

It's not so much that I'd like to see TO dead, but if I never had to see his mug or hear his voice again, I'd be cool with that.

I'm in 'grumpy old man' mode today.

So we hired Kubiak as OC and he's bringing his old OC Dennison along to be QB coach. Kubiak basically runs the Shanahan offense right? So like, run heavy version of the west coast?

What offense does Joe Flacco's father like? That was the last iteration of the Shanahan offense.

I'm actually surprised you guys didn't hire Kyle Shanahan. Outside of the daily Redskins circus with a prima donna QB crying to the owner all of the time he's actually a good OC based on his time in Houston. Baltimore seems like it would be 1000% less bullshit behind the scenes.
