He was 2nd or 3rd rounder until he came out then he dropped to being talked about as a 5th. Once one of the talking heads says 'He's a fifth rounder' then the rest of them say it and say it and it becomes canon.

If people say he's a 5th rounder, then other teams figure he'll still be there and won't want to "waste" a 2nd or 3rd round pick on a guy who will still be there in the 5th. It's a retarded self fulfilling prophecy

Projected rankings are bullshit anyway. Teams draft according to need (theoretically) and outside of the first round hi-jinks, I think that theory stands fairly true.

I agree. The people who are able to see through that fog are probably those who are best at drafting players.

Whatever value the media assigns to a player of any sport is self-serving by its very nature. That isn't to say that 'media value' has no absolute weight in the world, because it does. But I would say that too many people tend to give too much credit, positive or negative, to a person's 'media value' more often than they really should.

Look, the Redskins worked hard for that pick, STL better not fuck it up. It seems like a no brainer for them to come off of that pick. Someone will want a shot at Clowney, assuming Houston looks to fix their Schaub problem with the #1 pick. Lots of existing strength at DE for the Rams = trade down.

I only meant that Manziel is exactly like Griffin. As far as the Rams go, we should trade that pick again. And again, and again, and again. We should bank on it and suck on the pap of it and live off its interest, and we should do this until the day we all die and our sons are here arguing about football on the internet. We should never ever ever cash that pick in. We should hold it, and its gravity, with us forever and continuously use it as leverage to advance our position. In the short term this pick will mean probably next to nothing, but in the aggregate it will have meant everything. It is our chip. The Redskins gave us a chip in one of the biggest games in America. We need to utilize the value of this chip to its fullest which means banking its value and spending any profits on another positive investment.

Clowney, to me right now, looks like the equivalent of turning your entire savings account into thousands of lottery tickets all for one drawing. We should not do that. We should instead trade our pick this year, next year, and forever more. We should never cash it in. Always be looking to trade it for value. The value of any player will always go down. But a first-rounder in the future will be worth at least as much as a first rounder now, if not more, if not much more. It is always a positive trade (assuming the league itself grows).

Press your advantage, don't cash it in.

We talk about these 5 more than we talk about any other. We should monetize that talk. We should always trade to ensure that we have a top pick, so that people talk about our prospects, but we should always be willing to trade away the biggest players and skim the hearty frothy value off the top of their big fat names. Always hold a top 5 pick, but never use that top 5 pick. Always look to trade it to a desperate sucker. This is the way to long term success, imho. This is what I want to see the Rams do.
