It's nowhere near as severe, but putting pressure on it to walking with a slight limp isn't at the same level as being able to run routes in the NFL on it either. I agree though that 8-10 sounds more reasonable.

Their one D-line guy, Lawrence (the one who fucked up and then redeemed himself versus Detroit) also broke his foot last year and was out 8 weeks. It really just depends on the person, not everyone heals the same way or at the same speed.

Hell, he plays on defense, he's fine. I remember back in the 80s you'd see guys playing in casts and everything else on their hands or arms. It's not like he needs the dexterity to catch or even hold a ball regularly, he's paid to knock people down. You can do that just as well with a stump as you can a fully functioning hand.

So I'm figuring now he's going to ask for the doctor, and he may have to go to the hospital because this thing could get infected, and he says, "Give me some tape." So they throw him some tape and he just starts taping this huge ball. He makes this big fist. Then we go back in. He plays the entire game. Never misses a down. I'm just astounded,and he's using this hand that is broken as a club. He's beating people with it

Ronnie Lott was a cornerback who hit like a linebacker. His claim to fame occurred in 1985 when his left pinkie was caught between the shoulder pads and helmet of Cowboys running back Timmy Newsome, shattering the bone. When Lott's finger didn't heal properly, he told the doctors to cut it off, and they amputated his pinkie at the third knuckle.

Nah. In college our linebackers were the core of our defense. My job as end or tackle at times was to just stand the O-lineman up and let my linebackers make the plays. You absolutely must be able to grab to do that. You can't play patty cake on defense with that scheme, you will lose that every play. If they have him try and shed his man every time, then he better be in position to at least disrupt the play. If I am a D-coordinator... I am running right at him. Make the Giants commit a LB on that side if he can't wrap up or finish plays.

Damn, his hand looks way worse than I would have guessed based on the offseason articles. I agree that his career is probably over. He may stick around for another season, but he'll be worthless.

I'm not even an internet doctor, but...

There are defensive players that rely on grabbing, and there are players that don't. JPP's problem is that (until now) his game has been entirely based on grabbing, and (forget the missing finger!) with that stub of a thumb, I'm not sure he can gripanythingagain, much less a 300 pound OL player.

The rest of his body should still be in enough shape thatsomeonewill stick him in a club cast and throw him out there, probably on a contract for the veteran minimum loaded with incentives, but the odds of him ever being a name worth knowing are about zero.

The really bizarre part of this deal is that, AFAIK, his franchise tag contract is still sitting at Giants HQ. Hecouldwalk in and sign it (with his left hand, lolz) today, at which point the Giants would walk a doctor in who would fail his physical 30 seconds later. At that point he becomes a free agent, so I'm not sure why anyone involved is letting this sit. Do the Giants really think he could be useful after a couple more months of rehab? Does JPP know the above will happen, and is hoping for some sort of deal on a playoff-contention team that has injuries? It's weird.

Give him a prosthetic hand that is strong enough to crush rocks. Like a terminator hand. Either that or a go-go gadget arm and let him block Field Goals and knock down passes with his 14-foot telescoping rod arm.

ESPN article hit on this issue, the physical has set requirements so he is just waiting until he can pass the physical to sign. The Giants will be unable to put him on their non-football injury list (he would be under contract but they wouldn't have to pay him) because he would not be technically injured. It is why he is waiting to sign it. Of course, they could just pull the tag at any time and he is a free agent.
