My earlier point still stands, if the evidence was such a slam dunk as people would like to believe, based upon the photos at least, then the DA would have moved forward to the jury trial regardless of the presence of the victim. In fact, it's quite common for exactly that to happen. In this case it didn't.

Well, the base salary is pretty small. Most of it is made up of bonuses for games played (when he was originally signed, wasn't he still under a 10 game ban?) and something like up to ~$2M in bonuses for sack totals (don't think any of it kicks in until he reaches at least 8 sacks, not sure what the top bonus level number is though)
