That article title is extremely misleading. Read Ben's quotes, he doesn't at all think they bent the rules.

I thought that there was a rule against that," Roethlisberger told reporters. "Maybe there's not. Maybe it's just an unwritten rule. . We saw it on film, that the Patriots do that. They shift and slide and do stuff on the goal line, knowing that it's an itchy trigger finger-type down there.

"In my years of playing, a defensive guy can't bark stuff or move in the middle of a cadence. I agree that the ref said, 'Well, he didn't go in the neutral zone.' . I was arguing the fact that he shifted in the middle of a cadence."

Yeah, that's probably it. Thanks. AFAIK, it would only be drawing them offsides if they crossed into the neutral zone. But that article mentioned what appears to be a different penalty because they said it would have been an unsportsmanlike call.
For those that didn't follow the link. One of the rules for unsportsmanlike conduct:

"Using acts or words by the defensive team that are designed to disconcert an offensive team at the snap."

No idea if it would apply to what they did or not

you know there's also penalties for holding, and pass interference... and like 1000 other things.

Do you see anyone gushing tears when an O lineman holds a guy to avoid a sack?

yeah that was some shady shit. you're not even allowed to do psychouts like that in most beer pong games, why should that fly in the NFL?

Big Ben should have focused more on his team not sucking and less on trying to rape anyone that got close to him.

Pretty sure that rule was put in mainly to penalize defensive players who were using audible calls to simulate snap counts to confuse offensive linemen. The rule is vague as shit though, and shifting to me as long as you're not crossing the neutral zone shouldn't be a big deal. Next they'll try to claim the fans were too loud for them to hear the snap count.

See: Seahawks stadium

Purposefully designed to project sound onto the field. That's definitely not an advantage though, right? Because it's not the Patriots, right?

Hi, you must be new to football. Stick around a week or two, and you'll see that.

The hawks pump in extra noise with the speakers too, don't they?

Shifting the line up or down right before the ball is snapped is a perfectly valid and age old tactic. Changing the front before the offense has time to adjust isnt cheating ffs. Nor is a Linebacker running up to the line to fake a blitz or anything of that nature.

There have been penalties called for players on the defense intentionally trying to get the offense to false-start without ever going into the neutral zones. Rarely called, but it has happened and can be enforced by the vague rule that I posted.

Honestly it doesn't matter, your o line needs to be disciplined enough to not false start because of what the defense is doing

yeah the defenses of a lot of teams all shift suddenly during the count.. i've seen dozens of games that it was done, with the entire front line of the defense shifting left or right a few feet, or the linebacker rushing up and stopping just shy of the line( or not stopping and bam offsides call) and either staying there or backing back up. so no idea what the bitching is about.

it sort of feels like the NFL is slowly turning into the WWF

We have been investigated for it twice I think? Both times the Giants bitched to the league about it. Both times the league didn't find anything. Its not like we are the loudest... the Chiefs hold that record.

Damn, that's kind of embarrassing isn't it? Isn't arrowhead just a regular open air stadium? Yours is either domed or partly domed and designed to increase the noise.

Oh and amareaves, I think you should hang an aggie flag on the other side of your driveway. See if you can find one that says "The original 12th man"

Right but CenturyLink is loud as fuck every single week on every single play for their defense. I'd be curious to know what the actual average sustained decibel level is when the visiting team is on offense for each stadium.

I don't think I believe that crap about the Seachickens pumping in extra sound though.

Its only the first game of the season and I'm already tired of all the draft kings, etc. commercials. Can't wait to see them another 9,999 times this season.
