I thought both teams looked pretty sloppy. Could be week 1 or it could be both have abysmal defenses. Probably a combination of both.

imo bit of both. offensively both teams looked good.

defensively steelers were worse than the pats. the pats defense always looks rough for the first half of the season, the question is, will they "gel" and improve enough so as to be able to stop teams on 3rd down and limiting teams to field goals- last year the patriots at the end of the year were extremely good at those two things, especially the latter (last 9 games i think it was including playoffs no team scored a touchdown in the 4th quarter against the patriots) -they almost did another game (steelers scored with 2secs left in the game)

though butler got burnt - alot- his coverage was good, he work on his technique a bit, especially hand placement, then about half of those brown receptions are either incomplete or interceptions. i mean the TD catch with 2sec left, his hand a bit lower-less than his hand's width(about 6") -and it is incomplete or possibly intercepted.

yea except the patriots headsets had interference too & the NFL controls the headsets.
By interference do you mean the NFL had to disable the Patriots headsets to make the game fair again after it magically became lopsided in the Patriots favor in their home stadium as it has done many times before?

Yeah...Cheaters.

Steelers are playing a new defensive scheme this year, so it will either slowly come together or be a shitfest all year. My hope is that once Bell and Bryant are back, the offense can carry the team till then. If not its right to uglyville all year.

They did look generally confused most of the game. But I don't think they have the talent on the defensive side regardless of scheme.

Talent to be a top defense? No. But they dont need to be, they just need to be serviceable enough for the offense to outscore everyone which shouldnt be an issue most weeks. Kind of like the 51-34 Colts game last year....I would give the Steelers the offensive advantage vs pretty much everyone in the league cept maybe a team or two when Bell and Bryant come back.

Look at this list at the top teams, not much has changed, and those are all playoff teams. Defenses dont have to be dominant for the team to be playoff bound....just good enough. All they have to do is get better, not be the 76 Steel Curtain.

NFL Stats: by Team Category

Plus Im not that surprised at last night, there was just some tweet on nfl.com that Brady is 17tds vs 0 ints vs Mike Tomlin coached Steeler teams....we never get pressure on him and he always picks us apart.

patriots were also having the interference- and before "PATRIOTS CHEATED THE HEADSETS DIDN'T WORK"

the headsets and control of said headsets and communications are supplied, maintained and controlled by...the NFL.

there was a shorted wire that had to be replaced.

thanks Gen

sorting last season -DEFENSE sorted by points allowed, Patriots were 8th in the league (seattle was #1).

however yards per game the patriots were 13th @344 yards allowed per game(seattle was #1).

Week 1 is definitely just a slightly less shitty preseason game when it comes to defensive play. It's always terrifying to watch your team's defense play the first couple of games because they will have the worst blown coverages and you have no idea if your team is really shit or if they just need to make a few adjustments.

As much as I hate the Patriots, the headset thing was a non factor.

Sorry but if the staff needed them to relay to the players that oh "hai guyz this Gronkowksi guy is pretty good" and they shouldnt leave him wide open all game, well they should all be publicly burned at the stake anyway. I mean you would think after the first td they would have bitched some people out......but these are football players I guess.

I was kind of surprised to see the Steelers OC on the sidelines. I know he's always stood there but I wonder why he wants to be on the field instead of in the box.

Gronk should never ever ever ever be left uncovered. i mean come on the dude is a beast, and chandler is pretty good too.

those two gel(well just chandler gronk is there already) with brady, with mr binky edelman in the mix and the pats offense is going to work, very well.

This shit is hilarious.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/13...-patriots-game

"Friday morning, a report on Steelers.com, the team's official website, said that whenever an NFL representative was on the Patriots' sideline, the Steelers' headsets cleared, but when the representative walked way, the game broadcast returned. ESPN has not been able to independently confirm that report, which was unattributed."

Well, if you saw the Tomlin video after the game he said it happens every time they play there so..........still not an excuse but in this day and age of technology, its hardly coincidence if it happens every time.

God that is such shitty reporting.

Hey we heard something from some guy that we can't identify about a problem we didn't verify. I mean I hate the Patriots and their cum dumpster fans as much as anyone, but give it a rest already

Yeah sort of curious how both teams play against better defenses. In fairness it's week 1 and teams are going to be somewhat shitty in general.
The strange part is that conventional wisdom says defenses have the advantage for the first quarter of the season or so.
