I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting much out of the defense until Hardy entered the mix. The secondary and linebackers have really played exceptional (Sean Lee is crushing it right now) and in run plays yesterday the d-line was ninja-like in getting into the backfield.

AFC North has an interesting next 2 weeks, Cincy plays at Baltimore this coming week, then hosts KC at home in Week 4. Steelers go to St. Louis next week, then have a quick turnaround and host the Ravens for the Thursday night game in Week 4. Browns for what it's worth host Oakland, but then play at San Diego.

Crazy chance of Ravens starting the year 0-4, Cincy 4-0 and Steelers 3-1. On the other hand, Ravens could bounce back and be 2-2 and if KC does the business against Cincy at worst Ravens would be even with Cincy and Steelers at 2-2.

Did anyone see that sequence of events at the end of the Vikings vs Lions game? 4th and 7 at the 19 yard line, Stafford completes a pass to Lance Moore, the line judge marks it about a half yard short and asks for the ball. The back judge tosses him the ball, but the line judge drops it, he continues to call for the ball. The back judge proceeds to pick up the rolling ball and run it over to the Referee who sets the ball and allows the Lions to snap it before the chains have even moved. (Illegal snap). The sequence resulted in a couple minute delay and a free set of downs for the Lions which led to a touchdown.

On that same note, this week is the most penalized week for the NFL in recent memory going back at least 8 years. Over a 20% increase in flags over the previous high of 225.

The Browns won yesterday
I was reading an article about how even after week 1 the script may be out on how to stop Mariota which is basically just take away the inside hot routes and force him to make reads and decisions. I didn't get to watch the Browns game at the bar I was at but it could be the Browns are just a good fit to shut down that style of offense with their extremely good secondary and fairly competent line backers. My co worker also said Mariota had on average like half a second to think before his o line crumbled.

As for Manziel. He can't keep living on the big play. This is the NFL competent teams won't allow that to happen and rely on those points. The Browns offense wasn't doing shit outside of 60 yard TD plays.

AFC North isn't that interesting. If the Steelers make it in it will be on a Wild Card. Bungles have it pretty much locked up right now. The Steelers D needs a year to get familiar with themselves. Way too many important role changes.

Except our line backers. They played like some fucking junior varsity scrubs yesterday. Vincent Rey finally stepped up to me yelling at him all game to seal the game winning finishing interception.

Strikethrough doesn't work because we're on 20 year old forum software

As far as the AFC goes, pretty sure the South will only send whoever wins that division (likely the Colts) to the playoffs, and that the Pats will win the East. That leaves Cincy, Pitt, Baltimore, Denver, KC, San Diego, and Buffalo fighting for 4 spots (2 division titles 2 wild cards). I consider Miami/Cleveland/Oakland/Jets to be on the outside looking in.

You consider Buffalo to be real contenders?
For a possible wild card? Sure. But that's their ceiling, they're not winning the East. And again, they could easily be one of the 3 teams out of the 7 I listed that will miss out.

I really need to see the Bills beat one good to really good team before I say they're capable of anything.

The Colts were going to lose that game no matter what. They did nothing to better their defense, and they got fucked up.

I'd also get nervous about putting the Ravens in as a playoff team at this point. I'm not sure exactly how many teams start 0-2 then go on to the playoffs but I imagine history isn't hugely in their favor. But maybe they'll have a New England-esque turn around from last year. Who knows. They have the talent.

I mean, they lost on the road in Denver, which is completely forgivable, followed by a shootout to the Raiders where they had a 3 point lead with 2:10 to go. Next 2 weeks will tell a lot about where the Ravens might end up. They could definitely have a turnaround, or they could sputter to something like a 8-8 season. If they lose to Cincy and Pittsburgh next two weeks, it would be basically impossible to see any way back for them.

Buffalo pumped in illegal stadium noise in their attempt to break the sound record last night against NE, including loud train whistles when the Pats center touched the ball every play(which is supposed to be a big no-no according to a memo Goddell sent to all teams last month).
