Can we put that meme to bed? From 2004-2014 Romo threw 29 4th quarter interceptions. You know who has more during that same time period? Brady (32), Brees (46), Ryan (32), Roethlisberger (40), Rivers (40), Palmer (49), Cutler (38), Eli (59), and a few scrubs named Schaub, Hasselbeck, Fitzpatrick, and Henne. He ties Peyton. He also leads QB Rating during that time period at 102.1.

So please keep telling yourself Romo melts down if it makes you feel better.

The difference is Romo's were always in those vital games that could have led to the playoffs and were the most soul-crushing. That meme should never die...partly because it's hilarious, and partly because his always seemed to be the most meaningful.

No one should really be a Romo hater anymore for anything other than his injury proneness. Romo has made some asstastic play in some really key situations so he's earned some ire and lulz but overall he's been trying to do too much on a team that sucked balls around him in a lot of ways.

Someone shoot me, I defended Dallas...

I will never forget the season Wade got fired though. That 0-6 start was absolutely beautiful when Cowboys fans were thinking they had a shot at the Superbowl!

You're not wrong about Romo in general, he's a better player overall than most opposing fans give him credit for...the issue is his "heightened" reputation (and this goes for the Cowboys in general too) with the media. Every year seemingly they are trotted out as a potential contender, and basically every year they have been mediocre at best. Aside from the 12-4 season 2 years ago where they were very close to beating Green Bay and advancing to the NFC Championship Game, it's been potential unfulfilled. People got sick and tired of hearing about the Cowboys every year when most smart people knew they'd probably be competitive, then blow the division like they usually do.

No, they really weren't. They were only called "big games" if he threw a late pick, but if he engineered a late comeback you didn't hear about it. The big choke was his first season when he mishandled the snap in the wildcard game. Outside of that you're mostly just looking at games where he has to play perfect for them to even be in it.

Romo is old news anyway, Dallas fans going to push for Dak, get Dak and Dak is going to fall apart.

I'm thinking of the late game pick against the Skins back in RG3's rookie year, in which he had 3 picks total. The game ending pick he threw against the Giants in the playoffs after they actually went 13-3 in the regular season. The essentially game ending pick he had against Denver a couple years ago in that crazy 51-48 game (although this probably fits under your "had to play perfect" thought, since he had over 500 yards and 5 TD's...but everyone remember the 1 pick he had at the end when it was 48-48, handling Denver the game winning field goal).

I mean, we could do the whole list. They exist. A lot of his big 4th quarter comebacks always seem to be against creampuffs of the league where he "gets hurt" early in the game when it's not going well, lies on the ground throughout a commercial break, and comes in later and manages to beat them. A lot of the drama of those comebacks just seems so manufactured.

Again...he's still always been a much better QB overall than he gets credit for from opposing fans, but the media and Dallas fans have always given him too much credit.

Romo played out of his mind with the broken back, ruptured spleen, punctured lung and no arms against the 49ers the other year to pull out that win...

It's also true that Romo has completely buttfucked some other games too. 2 season ending interceptions back to back in week 17. I'll never forget that Jets game a few years back where he throws at Dez and Dez isn't even looking for the pass because Revis is on him like white on rice for the pick 6 that did happen. Then Romo tries to be superman at the goal line and run it in but fumbles and gets destroyed trying to make the play instead of throwing it away like a reasonably intelligent QB. Romo has had lots of eyes on him but he's made a shitload of spectacular blunders too.

Every year seemingly they are trotted out as a potential contender, and basically every year they have been mediocre at best.
The three years post-Wade when they went 8-8 for three straight people were predicting much, much worse and it was only Romo who allowed them to even get that far. When they went 12-4 in 2014 many many NFL analysts were predicting a "worst in the NFC" type record. That first game against the 49ers only reinforced that narrative everywhere you looked. Then they rattled off 7 straight wins. Narrative changed.

The only time your point is valid is 2008, 2010, and 2015. That would be the years after they went 13-3, 11-5, and 12-4 respectively, and seemed to have enough of a team built up to continue winning. You know what ties those seasons together? Romo missed time, and in two of them IR-significant time, and the team just wasn't that good without him at the helm. But thems the breaks.

Cowboys are an easy target to write about when it comes to Sports news. Jerry especially makes it very easy. And as long as those articles get clicks, people are going to write them.

Might as well change the thread title to Dak Lives Matter at this point.

They are easy targets, but the media uses just as many positive spin stories on Dallas' chances before the seasons start as they do all the negative ones after the seasons are over.

Eli is my top choice if he's playing against the Pats...although if Rahim Moore is on the opposing D then it would be Flacco. Otherwise in normal situations I take Brady. Bringing up the rear is Romo, just behind Rivers (who at least has played in a Conference Championship Game).

Clearly you and I read different articles.

Do you live in/near Dallas? Maybe you only focus on national media and the negative ones. I live near DC and feel like I'll hear about Dallas as much or more as the Redskins. Always a chance they finally put it together around Romo!

You shouldn't be this grumpy today, you guys scored 30+ last night. John Fox looks like a dead man walking on the sidelines.

Edit: Should have said local media, not national if you live near Dallas

The Giants INT was essentially a hail mary so it's stupid to call that INT a choke and calling a game where he went 25/36 for 506 yards and 5TD with 1INT a bad game is pretty stupid. It shouldn't have even ended the game, but their D was so bad that year that Denver kept getting first downs rushing up the middle to kill the rest of the clock.

I also can't think of any games where he went out with an injury, only to come back and beat a creampuff team. Unless you're talking about when he fractured his ribs and punctured his lung against the 49ers? The same 49ers went 13-3 and made it to the NFC Championship
